2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Is that possible? lena has a guaranteed spot after all, and giving just one spot to each would not allow them to get to the GPF

But is she (sima) on the seasons best list?
It wont be the russian federation that decides who replaces radionova at SA but the american

She did great there last season. Chances are travel arrangements are already made from Russia. All that needs to happen is to change the name. She flew to Italy and France several times this offseason so her frequent flyer miles are in order :)

Well damn...

Radionova withdraws from Skate America, no further info apart from the ISU entries list. Her WD from the CoR LP was due to a small injury...

Whatever, team Vodorezova is a graveyard of talents. I wonder how she gets to be head coach of a big skating club (like the only one which has $ to build a brand new ice rink right next to another one!) if she can't coach?

Edit: if anybody here has someone who wants to start following FS, the first thing you should tell them is to not get emotionally attached to anyone! Cause I've just lost a lot of interest in watching FS this year.

Does anyone know the reason why Lena withdrew? I hope it's bc she realized she needs to get in better shape if she wants to have any chance to be on the podium and is working extra hard now

I don't like Buyanova, but what makes you think her coaching is responsible for Elena's condition? A coach is not a miracle worker and if Elena is not 100% invested in skating any more, or if she has other issues (a la Gracie, Gabby, Yulia, etc. I'm not insinuating anything, just saying we never know what is going on with someone's health), then what is she supposed to do about it?

Ok, we have official info:

https://tass.ru/sport/5675557

"Radionova withdrew from the grand prix event due to a back injury. This is unfortunate since it happened right before the event. Her participation in the grand prix in Japan will depent on the speed of her recovery. All depends on what level of workload she'll be allowed to do by the doctors. We hope for her speedy recovery." - FFKR general manager Alexander Kogan.

All of her skaters are preforming poorly, that's just bad work. It is understandable if one or two people are struggling, but the whole group? Noone made improvenents since joining her, Sotskova and Tsurskaya are getting 40s in TES and we shouldn't talk about "well, its only the start of the season", amny others are doing much better.
Also, if we look at her results overall, all she has is Sotskova's 2017 GPF silver and the OGM of Sotnikova who always struggled with consistency. Compared to the overall success of Russian women's FS, that is not good at all.

Because it's not only Elena who has struggled.
Masha's URs have gotten worse, not better
Polina's jump quality has gotten worse and her URs haven't been fixed, but it's still early with her
Gubanova's lost stamina and spin and step sequence quality.
And of course, Elena just got 53 in a short program in Russia.

That's not a good coach to me.

Every single one of Buianova's students - old or new - are doing terribly this season.

Radionova's been the worst, I'd say. But Sotskova, Tsurskaya, Panenkova have been in alarming condition. Gubanova might even have performed the best out of all her students, yet even she's done very poorly for her own standards.

It'd have to be quite a coincidence for all of these skaters to be under the same coach and for the coach to not have a part to play in this.

From the moment she got her last season, if you read the interviews, you can tell Buyanova wasn't considering Radionova much.

Granted Elena's decline started a year before, personally i think she did her a bad choice moving to Buyanova, she should have moved to a technician to rework her jumping technique cause that's her biggest issue.

Yeah i'm on the same boat about their skaters.

I do appreciate that they spend more time on things like skating skills but it becomes a bit pointless if then you lose levels and can't deliver clean performances on a consistent basis.

There is a "recent" interview with Tarasova on youtube, she says that russian coaches especially in ice dance are too much thinking about the elements and not enough about the programs, the artistry,... and i do agree that it can't be all about the elements but at the end of the day you still have to deliver when it matters.

Anyway, do we know who will replace Radionova?

Agreed.
But Panenkova is Tsareva’s not Buyanova’s 😌

To don't count the atrocious choreography from Radionova's short program. Which coach would approve that? I can understand that a young lady has not polished her taste yet (or might think that she looks sexy/modern/progressive), but a coach should know better!

Well, considering that Orser is best coach, and how he and Zhenya make decisions 50-50 about what she will do, maybe Buianova sticks to similar strategy.

She can be a bad coach and Elena can also have problems independent of that. You jumped to conclusions and then posted an article stating that she is injured.
