2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Hard to say from this point of view (camera angle), I hope you are right, but on that vid it looks like her 3Lz is 100 times worse than 4Lz of Anna Shcherbakova. Lets wait video from the competition.

I love Anna but her Lutz edge also isn‘t the best example of what it should look like. I don‘t have comparison video but Zhenya‘s best example (the one I posted) seems to be pretty on par with most of Anna‘s attempts. (Also, Anna is jumping 4Lz, if she did only 3Lz and focused solely on the edge, I’m sure she could get a better outside edge so those two aren’t really comparable)

But that was one attempt, in the actual FS Zhenya’s was clearly inside. The one in the SP was questionable but Brian applauded after it so maybe it looked like outside edge from his view. Idk, I think it‘s clearly an improvement in this short amount of time. I don‘t expect anything else from her at the moment and I also don‘t think she‘ll ever jump a lutz with a deep outside edge. Slight outside would be enough and I think also the maximum of what one can do in changing the muscle memory. For now the challenge is to get that flat/slight outside to the programs when there‘s nervousness and everything. I doubt she‘ll do it already tomorrow but we‘ll see.

A couple of withdrawals from Stage 4 :(

Seniors: Panenkova - not allowed to participate in more than 2, so expected
Juniors: Kostyuk. Perhaps Kromykh will now be here then, since both are Moscow?

Aha... :sarcasm:
did you see Anna's 4Lz in slowmo ? she even doesn't have chance to use inside edge with her techique

No need to call me out on that. If I say I like Anna, I do. That‘s it. I saw Anna‘s lutz in slowmotion and that‘s why I‘m saying she does use the wrong edge sometimes. Mostly it‘s flat or slight outside but sometimes she changes to inside. If you compare it with someone like Sasha who has a really deep outside edge, the differences are obvious. I don‘t know why it‘s wrong to acknowledge a skater‘s flaws if there are some. Even if you like them you should be able to do so and be objective. I see Zhenya‘s flutz but I also see Anna‘s or Alena’s problems with lutz edge. (That aren‘t as severe as Zhenya‘s of course) Every skater has some things that aren‘t perfect about them and Anna is no exception. I‘m not one to call someone out on a freaking edge if she‘s jumping a quad because I generally don‘t think edges to be that important but if there is a direct comparison made, I‘ll respond to it.

As for Anna and co. : I hope we‘re seeing an exciting battle at JGPF with Anna & Sasha‘s quads and Alena‘s 3As!!

Well wishes to her, hope she heals soon. Perhaps Sakhanovich will be chosen to replace her by the Japanese fed? If so, Sakhanovich automatically qualifies to nationals. As it is, though, there are now 5 spots available to nationals rather than 4.

Uh, Anna never uses wrong edge on Lutz. Slight outside isn't against the rules. She even has the ankle bend that isn't found with flutzers. Shrug.

Does Elena still qualify to nationals because she did have 2 GP assignments, or not

Depending on how bad her back injury is, though, it may be a moot point :ohwell:

No, you actually have to set foot on ice for at least the SP.
She can't qualify at all even if she healed because she WD from one event in the middle of it, so I think she could only compete in one more. Could be wrong on that though.

i dont really see why they would chose Sakhanovich

I just want to see Sima at nationals, which looks unlikely right now :(
JSF doesn't have to pick another Russian lady, but with Radionova out it's the only event a Russian lady could be substituted in for. Although, even if they did want a Russian lady, Leonova has a higher SB than Sima. So it's not likely, it's just my wish.

Personally, I really hope that if they pick a Russian lady, it's Sima. She's improved so much with Turenko, and Leonova just hasn't been improving, in my opinion.

Oh, no, things don‘t look too well for Lena. Good luck to her, though and a speedy recovery! :(

I‘m hoping they‘d choose Sima, too. She‘d really deserve it, she‘s working so hard and doing so well at the moment. And even though she‘s clearly improved, she probably wouldn‘t be too much of a competition for the Japanese skaters. Sima for NHK!! Sima for Nationals!! Justice for Sima!!

Like another one of Buyanova’s students since she’s already going with Masha

Gubanova maybe? She isn‘t doing too bad either. Is she eligible for senior competitions? I remember her being at the JGPF with Alina.

I mean that there are more interesting skaters to invite.

Who? I‘m not being sarcastic I literally have no idea who of the really interesting skaters haven‘t got a GP event yet.
