Excellent interview - very enlightening on so many levels.

I had not realized that Alina doesn't yet have "muscle memory" ingrained on her jumps yet!
This HAS to be so difficult for her while performing in competition.
Color me impressed!!!!

Now we know why some of the "cognizati" at the test skates looked "????"
The "rodents" of twitter & youtube laughed - "ha ha ha - they think the program stinks"
Real reason - they wanted her to have an easier program so she could get the jumps better.

Eteri impressed me a lot in this interview - on a professional and a personal level.

My personal plea to Alina....
"Please Alina, stay off of social media as much as possible."
Yeah, I know, it ain't gonna happen :laugh:

I wonder what her "secret motivation" is for wanting to continue competing????
(I hope it is to become 2 time Olympic champion :luv17:)

I didn't realize that doing 3Lz-3T in same program as 3Lz-3Lo was so difficult!
I noticed that Eteri said she MAY change this.

As a fan of Alina, of course, I would love her to win everything.
But what I REALLY want to see (as others have said) is the happiness after her skate.
If she is happy with her performance, that is all that really matters.

BTW the following is a quote from Alexei Mishin....

He is talking about his opinions on transitions....

Therefore, it is wrong to consider it the apotheosis of technical mastery, because most of the figure skaters after such steps and transitions reduce their speed before the jump and thereby impair the quality of the jump. This can be said about many, the exceptions are the students of Eteri Tutberidze.

Great article! I wish she didn't get too involved in social media and read what morons write. It is next to impossible to control teenagers and social media.

What I would do to give her a hug. How could anyone hate this girl? She's been through so much and it's so difficult. I can't even imagine how hard adjusting to a new body is and the pressure that comes with being the olympic champion. I hope she knows that we love her no matter what, and whatever struggles she is going through we are here to go through them with her. You are strong, Alinka!
 
I want to give Alina a ton of hugs, and send her all the love in the world so she knows that we all love her unconditionally.

I don’t love her because of her results, though her awesome skills are what got me to the table so to speak, the reason I’m still here is because of the awesome charismatic girl that she is. It’s because of who she is as a person. And that is not tied to results or athletic achievements, like all others here I want her to be her happy, smiling, friendly self. I wish her plenty to smile about and be happy for.

This interview opened my eyes to all that goes into figure skating, the thought process, the challenges to be overcome, the long term thinking. When they talked about adding difficulty, having two hard 3Lz combos in one program, building her up from scratch all over again, they are talking about the future as much as they are talking about the present.

Alina is never a complainer, she doesn’t like to make excuses and I admire her a ton for that, but when you are growing up while you are achieving the hardest and most sought after prize in your sport it can’t be easy. She doesn’t have the luxury of privacy and anonymity as she rebuilds her skill level to its top form, she adapts one week and has to perform at a top level competition the next with all waiting eyes on her to scrutinize her every move.

That’s the cachet of being the best and of being on top, she doesn’t get to be the good surprise, she’s expected to be perfect. At the tender age of 16, realistically even younger, she choose this career and now the career is also choosing her. She stands to set herself up for life and make all her dreams come true.

My dream come true for her is happiness. She deserves all the happiness in the world to match the amazing person that she is.

Alina has the best and kindest fanfest created in her example and honoring her kind spirit. We all make it happy and great!!

Is there an official link to the interview? Starting a thread about it on the Edge would also bring good discussion, I'd imagine. It's a more in depth interview than many about Alina in the past and discusses her growth, technique and programs, and coping with olympic champion status. From both her and the coaches. Insightful interview all around.

I am not sure, but I am actually thinking about typing it all up right now and posting it in the edge. Actually, I want to do it :)
 
Just read the interview and i am so proud of her. She is one hell of a fighter, and i have seen people make fun of her when she makes mistakes and doesn't deliver perfect performances but you never know what is going on with a skater. Obviously growth spurts are really difficult to handle for skaters but even more for her, being the olympic champion, people expect nothing but greatness from her (which is unfair, she's not a robot) but i did not expect it affected her that much. I know she will continue to fight and have the last laugh! I'm glad she has Masaru with her too :luv17:
 
Now, I'm thinking about her last minute combo at the ending of grand prix gala. It has so much bigger dimension after this article. She basically show what she has on her mind - she NEVER give up.

I never thought that 16 years old girl can inspire that much ..
