Susanna Poykio at Number 4! How I would have wished to see her medal. She did well at both Skate Canada and Trophy Eric Bombard.
As for the newly minted Russian team, the new national champion Doronina didn't even make it past the short program though team member Ievleva did garner 11th place.
Gedevanishvili botched her LP which dropped her from 3rd to 8th place. Wow! With inconsistency like that, she's far from being a contender
Question about Costner though? Does her win at this event make her a World Championships contender?
The top contenders at Worlds net about 180-190 points in total score, so Caro only has a chance if the top ladies perform less than their best. (With this score, she would have gotten silver at the GP final, ahead of Mao Asada, but would have gotten bronze behind Kimmie Meissner at Skate America.)

Even with this new system it is impossible (still is anyway) to compare scores from different comps. Carolina has it all if she don't make any misstakes on her jumps (artisitc/skating skill wise I think Carolina is ahead of Kimme). And Sarah was actually 3rd at GP finals so ofcourse they should have chanses to medal at Worlds.

Sarah was 3rd the night when Ando had a total meltdown and Asada had an atrocious free skate. So yes, Sarah has a chance to medal if both Ando and Asada perform as terribly as they did at the GP final. Same for Caro.
Well, that only proves that no one is indestructible. Most people last year thought Mao was unsinkable, saying she'd win the OGM in a heartbeat if she was able to go. Well, this year proves she is vulnerable as well, although we can't go by the GP in predicting what will happen at worlds.

Asada was still 2nd at GPF so she was ahead fo Sarah anyway. As for worlds you never know, there are still chanses for many of the competitors. I think however chanses might be bigger for Caro than for Sarah. If everybody pefrom like they can problably it will be Korea, Japan, Japan.

I am very happy for Carolina. She did great. Her costume is distracting for some reason. I don't dislike but I'm not crazy about it either. I agree with Anna, it's the colour. But I loved her hairdo. She had the complete package today. Very well done!
The whole competition was great this year. It was very refreshing to see different people winning. It was much more exciting.

There were some nice performances from skaters . Karademir may not have a triple lutz or world class speed but she is a lovely skater to watch, gentle and pays attention to her choreography.She was a nice change from the earlier skaters who seemed to rush on the ice paying attention to the jumps. Drei really skated well jump wise, though artistry needs more attention. Marchei was a surprise. Never heard of her before. Perhaps there are better skaters in terms of skating skills,but she attacked the program, landed quite alot of jumps.She suited the Tango very well, as if she were an ice dancer at times. Poykio is a strong skater and was elegant in a reserved way. Korpi was fairly consistant, and had the ability to perform her program with expression.Meier is a well rounded skater,and good skating skills. She makes skating look easy. I would have liked to see her skate to music that builds towards the end, something more dramatic as she can look expressive. Kostner, her speed on the ice is just amazing. She just flies across the ice. Her jumps have good flow. I think she has improved artistically and has moments in her skating she really expresses her program. Sometimes though she looses the artistry alittle when she is setting up jumps. i like her alot more than i used to.

I am very happy for Carolina and Sarah, but the one person I'm actually the most excited for is Valentina Marchei!!!!
She's such a nice girl, and I am glad to see that she has finally made it through a great free skate. No, it wasn't quite perfect, but it was the best free skate she has ever had, and a wonderful program at that. I bet that coming into this competition her goal was to maybe finish in the top ten, but to finish in fifth place ... nice to see that good things do occasionally happen to the people who really deserve it!!!

She did part of it as her encore in the exhibition this afternoon. She started just before the spiral, which is, in my opinion, the best overall Ladies' spiral: she has great extension and body position, particularly in her back, her edges are so solid, and she flies across the ice with nary a bobble. It took my breath away.Congrats to Carolina Kostner!!
