2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Fixed that for you. It’s not fair to lump all Ashley fans together because of the problematic behavior of one person. :rolleye:

You are right, but ETA: I don’t want to say anything is “problematic”. Just that I personally wish the two weren’t conflated in one post. And my count was slightly different.;)

El, my friend, do you really want to dictate what people say and how they say it, on a non-fanfest thread? Who would read this thread, if everyone did as you say?

Over the last 5 or 6 pages (at least, I'm not doing the math) pages of this thread, about 85% of the posts are about Gracie, and about 95% of those posts are positive. Again, haven't done the math.

And several of us "Ashley fans," as you want to call us, have said positive things and given sincere well-wishes about and to Gracie ... saying such things the way we want to phrase them. Several of us "Ashley fans" are actually and/or equally "Gracie fans" !

I wasn’t trying to dictate, which is why I phrased it as a question. I really meant it as query, hence the hands:pray:

I know what it’s like to be disappointed and feel like a skater was not judged rightly. I just felt like this wasn’t the jumping off place for it, but that’s just my opinion. It doesn’t have to be anyone else’s.

And maybe I’m just cranky because we have seven inches of snow rather than two. and now there’s freezing rain in top of it.:eeking:

I do agree we all want the best for Gracie:agree:

She already has landed a beautiful 3 Loop in practice... I think her layout is more a play safe right now.. but she has all her triples back

Nah, they probably confused her with Wagner. They’re both blondes after all. Even if Gracie said some shady things (which didn’t in this case btw) at least she didn’t say them about her direct competitors and then play victim.

can we not please :palmf:

Guys let’s not fight! Gracie is coming back and let’s just appreciate her grit. Can we keep this place calm and happy?!

I can't even pretend to be calm, but I am very happy. Less than 24 hours! My long long wait is almost over!

Alyssa Liu just skated her short at Pacific Sectionals. Squeaky clean 3A, 3F and 3Lz/3t. 74.94. WOW!!!

Alyssa Liu was great!!

My heart broke for Katia Gordeeva's daughter Liza though. She came in 8th after falling twice. You could tell she was really upset waiting for her score. Katia tried to comfort her twice by taking her hands but Liza pulled them away. It was sad to watch.

Thank you! Is it just me or is her presence, musicality and lines all very much improved since the last time we saw her!? This short suits her beautifully! I hope she keeps it for her junior debut season since she got it so late in the season.
Good luck in the long! Hope she keeps working to improve her SS and everything else in the components. She is a very exciting skater.

It's just more her, IMO. She's not a very Les Mis type of skater. (Her free last year was one of the happiest Les Mis programs I've every seen. And for goodness sake, she's only 13). Pizzazz suits Alysa. Her SP in novices gave me very much this type of feeling.

LOL, I sympathize AND empathize. I usually love winter weather, lake effect snow and all (freezing rain, not so much), but we're having a wet cold right now that I feel in my very bones.

Although that can mean different things to different people. I'm not asking for unanimity, just respect ... and yeah, maybe a little empathy. I'm not over the way Ashley's been treated:sad21:, here and elsewhere. Well, maybe I'm not that unusual:drama: ... some people aren't over Tara beating Michelle, and may have even talked about it in US ladies thread, IIRC. It doesn't bother me, but then I may have a broader interpretation of what's okay for this thread.

As I said earlier, what impresses me is that Gracie's come back with a specific desire that had been unfulfilled before in her skating. Doesn't matter that I approve, LOL ... but it matters a lot that she's moving in a direction that she wants to pursue.

Don't even get me started on that. Ashley carried US figure skating for a decade, winning the only World medal since, I don't know, Sasha Cohen? Basically the Cretaceous Period. It was shameful how the judges dumped on her because she tried (and failed) at skating injured at Skate America. Back then we didn't appreciate how consistent "inconsistent Sasha" really was. Now I feel we're in the same boat. At least in the Ashley-era, the US could count a GP medal. So far on the GP, our girls technically have ranged from ok to :slink:

In this sort of situation, it might be useful to have strong "performative" programs. So even if the skaters are not technically strong, it still is enjoyable to the audience. For example, Mariah has a bad edge on her lutz and Starr doesn't have the more difficult jumps and both sometimes fall, but they have good interpretation of the music.

I won't name skaters who didn't do that, but just because you doubled or fell a bit, you should still "sell" the program too, no? It's sad to see a skater skate with their shoulders slumped in defeat and a sad expression because they fell on a combo or popped a jump. Figure skating is a sport, but it's an art too.

Hallelujah and AMEN to All of the Above.:hap10:

Mariah Bell really brought both sport and art at NHK last week-end, esp in the FS but also in the SP. I think these two programs are wonderful for her, they take her up another notch to fulfilling all her emotive qualities. Her cute and happy qualities can take her a long way, but these two programs have more. I'm not sold on the SP music, but I'm completely sold on how passionate she is about it, and the choreography by Rippon is lovely. The FS Piano music is a perfect choice, and she really performs.

Sasha Cohen and Kimmie Meissner. They both medaled at 2006 Worlds, Kimmie earning the gold and Sasha the bronze.

Did anyone realize that at Midwestern sectionals, the competitors consist of Hannah Miller, Hanna Harrell, Paige Rydberg, Vivian Le, Pooja Kalyan, and Amber Glenn??? 2 of these skaters will NOT make it to nationals. Wow.
