Alina Zagitova

I think Alina skated extremely well under such pressure (dealing with fatigue from jet lag, probably knowing Rika had landed her 3A and had a monster score). I actually hope seeing Rika do so well may take some of the pressure off her shoulders. I think Alina might do better when she is chasing someone. She still has a good chance to win the GPF, but it will depend on how Rika skates. Anyway, I am hoping for longevity: 2022 Beijing Olympics!! So, it is not the end of the world if she doesn't win everything in sight. She has already improved so much from last season to this season, and the fact that she did this after winning OGM (when countless other young skaters would have retired afterwards) speaks volumes about her character and perseverance. Go Alina! You have a wonderful team behind you to support you through this.

Alina skated well like the hard working champion that she is, she had to overcome her own issues (jet leg and her ongoing adaptation to her growing body, great news is, on the second front she is taking that in and making a party with it, she dominated her growth issues like a true champion).

I did a side by side video of the GP Final PhantAlina vs the GP Rostelecom PhantAlina (video on the left is GPFinal and the audio is from the GP Final), there you can see the knicks-knacks that ate away some points but most importantly you can see what a consistent girl Alina is. With her super hard content she performs things almost like clockwork, it is amazing to behold.

Carmengitova is next and I wish Alina to have the best FS, clean and with a performance she can be happy about.

Supeeer !!! Thank you !

I don't understand why so many people are devastated. Today Alina did a very good short program. She is 2nd but Rika has really made an exceptional score, it's not even usual for her. Alina can still win gold with a good free program.
At 15 years old Alina had already won everything, it's hard to be no longer first after that but she's only 16, her career is just beginning. The best is yet to come for her.

The only thing that makes me devastated is the number of people persuading me that I'm devastated

Its because she skated clean and is "only" 2nd. Its the first competition for her where a clean skate isn't enough to win. That is indeed something new.

Alina needs a competition and that is rika for now, alina winning everything has no thrill and excitement at all for FS lovers, in order for her to improve more is to have someone that will push her boundaries and be more competitive in this sport, imagine you compete in every event and people knows whose gonna win is pretty boring.

Alina said that she slept only 5 hours. And that she overslept! :eeking: She woke up only 3 minutes before the bus departure.

:gaah:
This is why she looked like her eyes were about to close halfway through the program. :dev2:
Someone needs to answer for this.

It is necessary that she learned not only to win, but also to lose with dignity, without tragedies and tears.
it doesn't happen that you win all your life . Defeats can make a person stronger, I hope the coaches will be able to explain it to her

if you read some posts in GS , sports.ru and another , you are realize - this day has come , today ,
07.12.2018 -Alinka is DONE  No doubt )

Zenskate .. your turn !

This makes me so angry. It is one matter if Alina can learn to lose gracefully. Besides, I still believe that she will win GPF :). It is another matter if anti-fans are swarming online like a flock of buzzards. Alina is done when she says she is done.

I hope her coaches are able to control what she hears. In any case, Eteri has her work cut out  with four girls to coach at the GPF. I wonder how she splits her time between them.

You were unlucky, you slept a long time, and you didn't see the battle between Flanker and madison )) the admins delete the posts...

Hey guys, some on-the-ground reporting for you and to give you an idea of the fan sentiment at the arena.

Rika had a remarkable skate; it was very well-done. Alina also had a beautiful, clean skate. She is second but first is not unattainable. Her fans (and there are many here at the arena) still have faith!

I'll try to post some of my grainy pics when I'm at a computer.

Cheers!

I am crushed that I missed the battle between Flanker and madison! :dev2: Please give me a recap via pm

Tbh I love Alina and hopes she wins but there was really no way she could have done any better given the circumstances and her competition which is Rika. People seem to forget that Alina and Rika competed as friendly rivals in the past as well, and sometimes Alina won but sometimes Rika also won over her. It’s part and parcel of life to not always be in first place and I think learning to deal with it with as much grace as she has is something we should all applaud her for.

I believe if Yuzuru had won every competition in his career, he would not have become such a legendary skater in the men’s field; when Nathan Chen arrived on the scene with many quads, Yuzuru didn’t panic, neither was he complacent or devastated. Instead he worked on new elements, pushed his own boundaries and created new paths. And then he won, Gold, twice. I believe the same can be said for Alina. She’s at the peak of her career, this competition will spur her to become better, perfecting the things she’s already good at, and working on new elements like we know she is. Having a 3A or a Quad is mighty impressive, and if Alina one day is able to land these jumps in competition she will be unbeatable as a skater. But even without it she can still win. I always recall Yuna vs Mao back in the day; despite Mao having the technical advantage over Yuna with her 3As, in the end it was Yuna who won.

I hope her LP will be a clean one. Alina is a fighter, and despite being the Olympic champion she is still forever the underdog; but she’s also good at being the underdog, she thrives with competition and with less pressure on her now, hopefully we will get to see an Alina who skates to her best ability. I really hope she will have a long program that not only does well with the judges, but also is something she is satisfied with at the end of the day. Blow them away Carmengitova, knock their socks off.

No one lives just for one competition (not even one season). Remember that Alina's goal is not to win everything but deliver clean skate and persuade that she is not one-time miracle. She is just 16 and she has many seasons ahead, she is training the hardest elements also, it's just not necessary to rush it and starting to put it into programs now. Yes, there are some people who start to claim she is no longer a champion if she will be "only" a silver, but their opinion doesn't mean anything.

And what EdRoz have said is true. she has learned that she learned how to lose without losing the grace already.

What you say is true. I just wish the Olympic champion was there say four days ahead of the short program instead of two.

Was she scored fairly? Her sp is usually in the 80s.

She seemed a bit tired to me. Considering this, it‘s amazing how she can still pull of a clean performance. I do think she was scored fairly, though. Her jumps weren‘t as sharp, her combo looked better in practice and her interpretation wasn‘t as great as it was at the Rostelecom GP SP. But again: She still has every chance to win. She just needs a good FS. And I think we‘ve all seen that Alina thrives under serious competition, not crumbles. I believe we will see her strongest FS so far because she will be well rested and hungry. And a hungry, determined Alina is dangerous. Whether she actually wins in the end doesn‘t matter. But I‘ll believe she will. Why? I don‘t know. Just a feeling. Maybe I‘ll be proven wrong. If so, it‘s not that bad either. I just want to see a fierce Carmengitova. And at least this we can be sure of. This girl‘s a fighter and she‘ll give it her absolute maximum in the FS.

This season it's Alina's 3rd highest score for SP, I'm not a judge to give a precise score.

As for the earlier arrival, sometimes the problems come rather later than earlier. Also, it is a question whether Eteri's team would have training rink nearby, because sitting there for 4 days without training could be much worse.
