Alina Zagitova

Despite the bobble on the LzT, I thought the rest of her jumps looked a lot better than they have all season. Her LzLo was well rotated, and very clean despite having problems with it before. The second half of the program she was a lot less tense and she got more into the music as well.

We really love such a remarkable girl. To come back after the Olympics, the first olympic champion to even make it to a GPF in the next season after they won, heck the fact that she's even still competing in Grand Prix series is remarkable. In all honesty while gold is great, I'm glad she got silver here. I always remember how devastating it was for Zhenya to not get anything but 1st and then come in 2nd in the Olys. It's good to learn how to be comfortable in second place, and it takes some pressure off of her. The fact that she did this after injuring her foot is more astounding. She's really strong, and like some commentators have said, she's a gritty skater who can pull it together when she needs to. In a way, she kind of reminds me of Yuzuru; he hasn't won everything in his career, at times was beaten out by younger competitors, but at the end of the day he won gold twice by sheer grit and keeping his cool when all the others could not. That's the kind of quality that makes a two time Olympic Gold medalist – and a quality I too see in Alina. She's really a skater for the ages, and despite all of the critics, I do see her being around for a long while yet. I hope this small 'bump' will only motivate her to get stronger and better.

I am very impressed Alina skated after injuring herself. I wonder which foot it is, because when I saw her coming out of that first 3Lz, I thought for sure she was going to fall. Very impressed she didn't. It was a bit of an awkward landing which makes me think her right foot is the one she injured, if that is true I give huge congrats for her pulling off that -3Lo on an injured foot. This clearly wasn't her best performance technically, but I thought she was really selling it during the step sequence at the end. I really enjoyed watching her perform it.

Second is not bad, she is not over because on this day with these particular judges Rika was better. I think Alina is a very gracious competitor and she and Rika seem nice with each other. I am also almost positive that if she had not popped that combination, she would have won the gold. I do hope that this takes a bit of the pressure off her shoulders because she is still definitely Russia's #1 lady. I will bet on her winning gold at nationals and Euros. I believe in her.

Side note: In the photo where Alina is taking a picture, is that Eteri in the background talking to Rika? I can hardly see without my contacts

I read from teamzagitova that Alina gave her flower crown to Anna Shcherbakova - that is so kind and sweet.

Congrats to Alina on the silver! Doing that with a hurt foot is amazing! :hap10:

And on that note, I hope its nothing serious and it heals quickly. When I heard she was injured...

I was feeling a little sad for Anna because there was a picture of Team Eteri and she was the only one without a flower crown, so if Alina gave Anna hers that’s really incredibly sweet. Exactly what a big sister would do.

I'm so proud of her!
She won (yes, won) a silver medal in such a tough company of great skaters. She was almost perfect despite all the pressure. And all of that with an injured foot! She's amazing, really amazing!

She is "2nd" because Rika got three times higher goe than she deserved according to rules and at least +6 pcs out of nowhere. There are no other reasons, mate

Oh for Pete's sake.
Last season Alina started to get higher PCS around the time of GP Final also.
Rika has proven herself this season just as Alina did last season.

I hate this when it done against Alina, and I certainly don't want to start seeing it in this thread regarding another skater.

It was indeed a remarkable performance to put out while injured. Jumping with any foot injured isn't fun at all.

However, I must disagree with your statement that her popped combo cost her the gold. Rika won by about 6.5 points, far more than the base value of a triple toe loop. What it DID mean, however, was that Rika could have afforded more mistakes and still win, so Worlds will be interesting.

When you say 'with these judges', you seem unhappy with the scoring.

As for the side note, I think that is indeed Eteri. I wonder what she said.

Maybe it came out wrong, I was having a hard time figuring out the correct wording, I agree with the placements, I just think the score for the FS should all be a little different, based on what I saw, if that makes sense. Sorry if it doesn't.

Wow - I missed a lot the last 2 days!

Congrats to Alina who WON the silver medal. She had maybe her "B" game for the LP, but she fought hard for everything.
Every competition is a learning experience.

Loved her "signing" her approval to Rika. Sportsmanship at its finest.

I didn't realize that she hurt her foot! Hopefully it is not too bad.
If she is at the Gala tommorrow, then that will definitely be a good sign that the injury is not serious.

So tired of the detractors. They are really quite a small number, but they are vocal and like a broken record.
We get it, everybody is a "breath of fresh air" except Alina.
We get it, when she wins she is overscord, when she comes in second - send her to the retirement home.
We get it, she should have finished 7th in a field of 6.

What did Alexi Yagudin defend Alina against? I feel I missed something big there.

Yikes - I would have to miss the Flanker/Maddie battle. I'm sure it was epic.

And I want to see Lusk8 go all "Ronda Rousey" on whoever left the loose cable that Alina tripped over.
Hey pal - you just P***ed off the most positive person at GS. See 'ya - I wouldn't want to be 'ya!!!!

My new most favorite saying....

"fight like the 3rd monkey trying to get onto Noah's ark"

I'm too tired and lazy to check....

The contest within the contest....

Did Alina get all level 4's in the SP and LP????
