I think, that Daniil just builds on "Averbukh's heritage". I remember when we saw ladies in Sochi my wife who had 0 previous experience in figure skating said that Yulia was different from others, "queens" included because during her program something was happenning every second unlike those others. We call it transitions here. And it was Averbukh who started that. Daniil followed and I think that he is a talented pupil. Anyway, their style is quite similar so that I see no particular difference for Alina. But why not for a change?

Except Averbukh can actually do a decent short and long program. Controversial comments aside, I think he is the better storyteller overall as compared to the incumbent. In hindsight, Evgenia's 2016 Worlds free program is an under appreciated masterpiece.

Agree. She hasn't had a lot of competition in her own country, but neither did Joshi Helgesson, Elena Gedevanishvili, Sonia Lafuente, or Angelīna Kučvaļska, and how many international medals do they have?

Russian ladies have a unique set of challenges given the depth of competition, but plenty of them have long careers, presumably because they love to skate. Leonova hasn't retired yet, right?

Alina is fine. It's Evgenia I am worrying about. The fact she was not doing any senior B event after missing GPF indicates she is undergoing a major revamp. I would not be surprised if she misses the Russian national podium this year. It seems she is still in the downward spiral and she may not gain upward momentum until next season. I just wish she had better programs.

Seems like I recently made a mistake directly comparing one-to-one Russian quadgirls against Kihira. AFAIU Kihira is 16y/o and will compete 4CC and WC in 2019.
I was under impression there is only 1y difference but Kihira was born at 7/2002 (just few weeks after the ISU deadline).

But Trusova and Shcherbakova are not eligible yet, even for EC, yes?
Those are two completely different leagues and not worth of comparing yet.

Yup, Anna, Sasha (and Alena btw) are not eligible for seniors this season.

The only jgp skater that has a small chance to go to the EC/WC is Tarusina, I think.

I'm currently working at Frankfurt Airport (Germany) and singing Chrismas songs while dressed as an angel.
2 hours ago while I was singing, a little group of people walked by and a girl stared at me with a look on her face that said "What the hell is that?" and I thought: wow funny, she looks like Trusova. Then I looked to the girl walking next to her and it was Shcherbakova and then I saw Kostornaia walking in front of them and I got really excited and started fangirling inside while singing about Chrismas.
They walked by and I was so sad I was in the middle of a song and couldnt stop to go after them although that would have been creepy anyway xD

So now you know they flew back from Vancouver to stop in Frankfurt and then fly to Russia. Alena didnt even look at me, Anna was watching neutrally and Sasha was clearly not impressed

She couldn't have gone to Golden Spin even if she wanted because 3 other Russian skaters had been already assigned to it by the time she found out she wouldn't be going to the GPF.

Seriously, I don’t understand why people are so desperate to have a “dominant No.1” in ladies all the time. Have people forgotten when there was actually competition at big events not so long ago? Think mao vs. yuna and kwan vs. slutskaya before that. As a fan, those victories felt way more satisfying and earned than when one skater is expected to win everything all the time. Even in mens, where there has been a clear no.1 for many years now, he does not win every major competition, and upsets are more interesting.

Sounds like a fun job - I assume you can sing of course I'm tone-deaf and would only be allowed to sing for torture purposes to get people to reveal if they've packed contraband
