2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I agree with you that it should definitely be allowable to respectfully compare aspects of two Russian skaters in the Russian ladies' thread even if one is senior and the other a junior. But I also think that at a certain point it becomes unproductive to constantly compare skaters because you like x aspect better on one than the other (not saying you are doing this at all, just a bigger observation!!) when they have never been directly compared in competition. I think after RusNats it will be much more productive because they have competed against each other and been scored by the same panel of judges, so the criteria for scoring is the same, rather than 2 different panels on 2 different days.
I get what you're saying, but there's also subjectivity that the points skaters get doesn't capture. Like, I'm sure that Alina will get more points at rusnats than Alena but that doesn't mean that for me Alina is better. But you're right about the repetition.
I guess I just got triggered because not that many people said that Alena is better and it already looks to me like people are being overprotective.

Speaking of Europeans, who would have thought at the beginning of the season that we may potentially see 3 Mishin students (Liza, Sofia, Caro) participating and have a chance at sweepiing the podium. Go Team Mishin!

Carolina is not with Mishin anymore I believe.

People love Alena. She is probably the least controversial skater on here because posters can agree that she has superior skating skills and the ability to carry out Team Eteri’s transition filled programs with elegance, poise, and musicality beyond her years. Plus she has huge huge jumps, and potentially a triple axel. I wouldn’t worry too much about her or her placement at Russian Nationals this year. Her PCS and overall scores will (and should) skyrocket next year.

I don't understand why we can't compare Alina and Alena? So what if they're not competing against each other? Just because some of us like Alena better and think she's better (at least in some ways) it doesn't mean that it's wrong and that people should be so butthurt. We can't all have the same favourites.

I have nothing against comparisons in general. On the other hand, there has been so much negativity around Alina recently that yet another "someone is better than Alina" looks everything but the impartial analysis in search of truth.

Sorry to say but for me it is so that in my eyes Alene skates better than alina at the moment. And Alenea has a better programm, not the most difficult one, that is alina programm. But it is better packaged, Alene can showcase her emotions and positions better . At least in my eyes, and since that is not alinas fanforum/fanfest I am writing in I think I can say it without feeling sorry for telling my own opinion. Others say they feel alinas performance are full of feelings, I don't feel it but everyone has their own opinion and that is completely ok, I just personally can not connect to alina programm. She is a great skater no question asked but not my favourite. That will always be zhenya and Alena is becoming my second favourite cause her gpf performances were beyond amazing

Would it be so bad to mabye change the music but most of the choreo stays? She clearly isn't comfortable with the sp anymore. She was at the beginning but I think that her fall and step out in the last to comps were to much and she just can't seem to relax with the programm.

I think it would be easier to skate to music that she likes. I'm excited. Maybe the music fits her leftovers dress. :)

Sofia finished 11th at Nationals.
And she won't get a score 205+ even if she skates full clean, so podium is not possible for her. She doesn't have a high potential, she was just so lucky that she got the easiest GP events and she qualified to the GPF. Last season she qualified to the JGPF too, she finished last.
Radionova got 207 last season (before the system change) Also she was 8th after GP results last season, and her GP events were the hardest ones. So a podium is not possible for a fortune skater like Sofia, but it is for a full clean Radionova. And we don't know Radionova is healed from injury or not, she will WD if she is not healed anyway. She still has a spot because of her potential and past achievements.

Disagree with that (i think what she is achieving is not just luck), but it wasn't the point of my previous post: just 2-3 months before Skate America, Sonya still didn't have any spot guaranteed, they gave her one and so far she is the most consistent russian lady in seniors.

if Medvedeva is a mess at Nationals, Russia should give her the third spot if she is clean. (she is a new face, she is very consistent so i think this is her chance)

Radionova is almost done with FS unless she proves she is not: her last outing was a mess (like all jumps don't look good) and then the injury and WD. Even if she does recover don't expect clean programs to come out of nowhere. On top of that there is also the fact that she kept bringing for years many issues no one at CSKA seems to address: some of her jumps (like the 3lo or the 2a) need to be completely reworked, and even her spins gotten worse each season.

Then based on your train of thought, the real problem does not lie with CSKA and their skaters per se. It is the deplorable state of Russian judging and your implied suggestion of CSKA politicking benefiting their skaters over others. The only definitive thing though is that the skaters have gotten to skate and win at Nats to qualify.

It's both.

The club brought completely unprepared skaters to the GP and they don't seem to understand how to address skaters issues, but they are still the most pushed club in terms of resources and scoring at domestic competitions regardless.

So far, there is no confirmation that either Sofia or Liza will participate. In fact, it is pretty unlikely that both of them will be at Euros.

Can anyone help me out?

I’m feeling nostalgic with the approaching event and would like to rewatch a video of Yulia’s 2014 FS at RusNats. Why can’t I find a video of it? Anybody have a link?

This has always been an extremely hard video to find(if you're talking about her Schindler's List program). I think(but not sure) I found it on a torrent a long time ago. But it's possible I've never seen it too though I do remember specifically looking for it and downloading a torrent full of Lipnitskaya's programs. This may be a false memory, but I think she didn't skate well there.

I think your problem is more in terms of the choreography itself and not really that Alina's presentation is bad, and that has nothing to do with the skater. I guess you have a taste similar to mine because Zhenya is my favourite skater too and I do look for some emotion and lightness in figure skating, even for some melancholy. However, Alina isn't made for such performances. It took me a while to appreciate this fact. Her programs are not based on to showing those emotions, they're not in the state of mind where I would imagine that the skater is sad, takes on the ice and pours his soul. But this doesn't mean that she's a bad performer. In my eyes Alina is all about transmitting the contrary emotions - action, excitement and fire, despite her fear of competition. This is actually very well integrated in her Carmen program, it's POTO that's problematic but as I said it's more on the choreography. She's doing the best she can with what they gave her.

And on the topic of skating skills Alina vs Alena - one thing most people don't consider is actually whether they have made any improvement. Compare competitions from last season with the current ones and you would see that Alina has come quite far from what she had shown in the past. Alena, on the contrary, hasn't shown any improvements. I know she's good but soon she won't be the only one with great skating skills.

Her Sochi Team event performance is almost to 11 million views

I still want to rewatch the Nationals FS again:ddevil:

I was controlling after a lot of searching around, but it's him, as Julia has scored 210.81 on the video.
