2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I don't see any sense in that statement,

And By PCS Zhenya was the 1st senior (Or either) here, And is probably 1st or 2nd internationally

Why not? Sofia and Stasya beat her twice this season, in the GP series Sofia ended up in the final and Stasya as an alternate in front of her, I think? And Liza is actually quite obviously the second Russian senior after Alina, winning a medal at the GPF and all. She has a lot more reputation this season because she‘s just been stronger. For Zhenya to skate worlds and have the pressure on her of losing the spots wouldn‘t do her any good. Maybe Europeans because the competitions isn‘t as strong there but would that be fair to the girl who gets to sit at home? If Liza isn‘t ready, it will be between Sofia and Zhenya. I don‘t know who they‘d choose. I just said that for rusfed justifying a lot of things have to happen. Zhenya‘s my favourite and of course I‘d love to see her at Europeans with Brian and Javi. But would it be fair? I don‘t know. She definitely has the highest scoring potential out of Stasya and Sofia. But is that enough to send her even if she finished 4th senior here (despite winning the FS) ? I don‘t know. Stasya and Alina are in by finishing first and second (senior) so the third spot will be between Sofia, Liza and Zhenya and will be decided by the council. I don‘t know what they‘ll choose to do but leaving Liza at home if she‘s healthy seems unfair to me.

All season we’ve been wondering if all of 3A would get sent to junior worlds but I think now there can be no question that they all have to go. Before JGPF, Alena was the one most at risk of not going but after her win there she showed that she must go. After JGPF Anna’s place seemed at risk but now she’s won senior RusNats they can hardly hold her back, and we all know Sasha’s place on the team was never at risk (deservingly so).

Yes, let's hope that these results finally lay all that silly speculation to rest, particularly for Anna, who was most frequently the object of the "pundits'" advice.

Senior-eligible:

1. Stanislava KONSTANTINOVA
2. Alina ZAGITOVA
3. Sofia SAMODUROVA
4. Evgenia MEDVEDEVA
5. Anna TARUSINA
6. Anastasiia GUBANOVA
7. Anastasiia GULIAKOVA
8. Alena LEONOVA
9. Polina TSURSKAYA
10. Maria TALALAIKINA
11. Maria SOTSKOVA
12. Elizaveta NUGUMANOVA
13. Daria PANENKOVA

(I feel like the top 3 could maybe get small medals for being the top seniors.)

Well, if they are hosting WJCh, I hope that "Zagreb" take their responsibility for organising a world championship more seriously than Sofia did last time round, and manages to attract more than the huddle of 30-or-so spectators that Sofia bothered (or didn't bother) to muster, for their bleak empty rink. And most of those were probably Alexandra supporters, there to witness history.

I'm just reading that Sofia organised this competition in 2001,2008,2009, 2014 and 2018. I have no idea why they got it so many times. No one else interested? Mistery.

Seriously there are people who doubt that Russia gets its 3 skaters among the 10 in the world, including the podium. Zagitova will not repeat today's failure, simply because she will not have any skaters of the quality of Trusova and Shcherbakova in the front. In addition, regular skating Tuktamysheva wins 3rd place. Samodurova or Konstantinova are better than any non-Japanese skater.

So where do these fears come from? The Russian seniors will not face the Russian juniors, why do some doubt that they will be out of the first 6 places? The World Cup will be a copy of the GPF, same names but in different positions, Zagitova and Tuktamysheva have several months to recover, the World Cup is not the next month, they have 3 months to recover to full and go to win the gold. Also check the results of the Japanese nationals, nothing is happiness there too.

Well, at last Worlds, Russia almost missed 3 spots. Anything is possible, I would say.

I meant i don't understand why you're claiming that being overall 4th of the seniors here
makes her the 5th senior Russian,
It's a manipulation.

And they can send whoever they want wherever they want, it's not like
any of the Seniors made the podium here

Because I combined the results of nationals + the results of the season so far assuming that Liza is healthy. Zhenya has all the goods to make it and that was a fighting FS from her but this season was rough and the other girls showed better results than her. I‘m her fan, she’s my all-time favourite, I wouldn‘t want to manipulate anything. She won the FS among seniors so that‘s definitely something, though.

Her FS today was good, she seemed happy and she got a fair score. Her lutz was !, the combo with the fall was marked << for the second jump and her step sequence was only level 3. PCS were a bit high but she definitely skated well enough to justify them. I‘m actually happy despite knowing Zhenya probably won‘t make the team. Because she showed confidence today and smiled and that‘s all I want.

Edit: They can send whoever they want? Really? can anyone shed light on this? I thought it was the first two seniors (regardless of podium or not, just first two seniors) and the third skater would be decided by the judges‘ council or something. I know they probably don‘t have to abide to the rules but they usually do... so.. would be weird to make that big of an exception for Zhenya.

But arriving with injured and substitutes after the Olympics; if in February of 2019 the situation continues as now, just worry. It is the same as with Kostornaia, many of us questioned his classification to the junior world championship in october, but now (2 months later) he is with his 2 friends who owns a position on the podium of the World Cup.

Eteri, strikes again. Mi nuh haffi seh nutten more. Mercy fi de res a di field. YYEEEESSSSSS!!!! Massive attack by team ET. ROFL.

Congrats to Shcherbakova! That quad lutz was a beauty and while Trusova brought the difficulty, I really thought Anna deserved the win.

Too bad about Zagitova. That was quite the meltdown. She should definitely go to Euros to gain her momentum and confidence back (and it's not like she'll have to worry about facing the Russian podium there). Is she actually injured though? I mean, she delivered a pretty solid SP (although the jumps weren't perfect either).

Good on Konstantinova for being the highest ranked senior! IMO Samodurova should have been above Zagitova too, but 72 PCS with 2 falls sounds like par for the course for an Olympic champion at Russian Nationals.

In short, my feelings are

"This is madness! You are all madmans!"
"No! THIS! IS! RUUUUUUUUSSIA!!!!!!!!"

Yes, help us with this, I always assumed the winner is assured to go international and the rest are up to the federation,
But none of the options is the winner here

I'm usually a supporter of sending the top 3 finishers at nationals, Of any nationals,
Apart from cases where an international star had problems and needs help,
Id rather they not mess with their scores and leave them off the podium and just send them anyways

Meh, I don't really care who gets the spots but this isn't accurate. Zhenya beat Stasya at IDF and had better GP scores. She has a better SB than both Sofia & Stasya & much higher scoring potential. I'd personally be fine with Zhenya getting to rest for the rest of the season but to act as if there's no justification for her to get a spot just isn't true.

And you would think that after all that "practice", Bulgaria would have got it right by now, how to organise a world championship and fill a stadium to bursting with excited spectators. Others manage to do reasonable jobs for even relatively lesser events, such as Nebelhorn and Helsinki. Even Yerevan did well with their allotted JGP.

The biggest waste to my mind (when they can't be bothered to make a show of it and fill all the seats) is always the missed opportunity to fire the imagination of children in a sport, and thereby to ensure the healthy growth and persistence of the sport into the next generation. Healthy roots...

I put it down to counter-productively greedy seat fees which put people off attending, rather like the distorted thinking where bus tickets are raised in price when the buses run empty, instead of lowered to attract passengers. But perhaps it is just sheer sloth.

Of course there is justification of her getting a spot if only by the fact that she has a higher scoring potential apart from anyone other than Alina and Liza. Or her past accomplishments. Or the fact that she won the FS here. I would be fine and very happy with them sending her to Euros but I feel like Worlds could be a bit too much for her at this point and Russia has to think about keeping their spots too. I just don‘t know whether it would be actually fair to send her to Euros because Sofia has been so consistent all season. Stasya wasn‘t and she‘s as much a hot and cold skater as Zhenya at the moment so I wouldn‘t have as much of a problem sending her to Euros over Stasya but it‘s Sofia‘s spot that‘s at risk there (assuming Liza doesn‘t make it) And that‘s really not fair. But I‘m telling you, as a fan, I‘m terribly biased. Sofia is nice but far from being my favorite and I‘d love for Zhenya to be at Euros with Javi and Brian. But I just don‘t know whether they‘ll actually do it...
