2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

((just popping in without having read the last few pages since the ladies FS to express my love and admiration for these Russian wonders!!))

First, I'm so incredibly proud of Zhenya for having such a redeeming free skate!! I hope she has a hell of a season next year (and keeps Tosca). This was also the first time her FS made my heart pound. That step sequence was absolutely ICONIC and I will die on that hill :D

I also want to say you can't say you're proud of Zhenya for her redeeming skate without having to be proud of Alina Z's short program going over 80 pts. That was a big feat and proved her competitive grit. You've gotta give respect where it's due and I have to say my heart breaks that she had a painful skate today. She'll get through it though, I think she's one of the hardest working skaters out there.

And all of that aside, I can't wait for Kosto to make her splash in seniors, my jaw DROPPED when I saw Anna S in first (and now the Russian National Champion?????? WHo could've guessed that???!) Her 4ltz was
Q U A L I T Y

And in regards to Euros and Worlds picks if you asked me I would do it this way - send Alina and Liza to Worlds, Zhenya + Konstantinova + Sofia to Euros and choose the highest placing of them. But I may be underestimating the importance of gaining the Euros title to RusFed and the Russian audience so I'd take my opinion with a grain of salt. I do think, however, Sofia deserves to go to Euros between her and Konstantinova, just because of her consistency.

All in all, what a competition!! Russia (and the sport of figure skating) is so lucky to have such talents!

I meant i don't understand why you're claiming that being overall 4th of the seniors here
makes her the 5th senior Russian,
It's a manipulation.

And they can send whoever they want wherever they want, it's not like
any of the Seniors made the podium here

It is the same as Evgenia last season she couldn't compete at Nationals but she had good scores that season so she got spot. Liza so far had great season so she should get spot if she will healthy.
As I remebere some years ago RusFed told they choose for team these girls who got the best results in Nationals and don't care about previous reputation.

Amazing event. With a wild mixture of emotions, independently who you are more fond of. And an unpredicted winner, as a cherry on top.

Congratulations Anna!

I'm sorry but anyone who believes Zhenya should be chosen for Euros or Worlds over Sofia after the season is living in the past. If this happens I'm completely done with RusFed and worrying about the russian ladies :(

Sofia has
- higher place at RusNats
- better results at GPs
- qualified for GPF and beat Satoko
- more consistent and reliable

I don't hate Zhenya, but if they do this idk. Not like RusFed cares much for rules (9+ pcs for 3!! programs with falls? It's even against ISU rules!) but how could anyone even think to justify disregarding Sofia.

Sofia did amazing this season and deserves to be 3/4th lady choice. Why did I know this would be considered?

I just want to see Sofya skate her programs again!! I look forward to both of them so much.

I think you guys didn't understand my quandary,
Let's just move on

<3

She might not be 'the perfect package' like Eteri's girls but she is a really good performer for her first senior year.. Her FS at SA was amazing!

This might be her only chance to be considered and I really hate injustice.

Does Liza deserve to go over her? Definitely, if she is fit for Euros.

First of all, as far as I know ISU rules do not have to apply for nationals (nationals are not an ISU competition).
As for Evgenia vs Sofia - there are reasons to choose Sofia and reasons to choose Evgenia.
But Sofia does have a good case to go as #3 lady (if we look at Zagitova as #1 and Tuktamysheva as #2).

I have to say that my immediate impression after watching Anna and Alexandra back to back was that Alexandra was much more interesting to watch but that her skating was a bit choppy in places and could have been less rushed feeling while Anna was more genetic but cleaner and more polished. Alexandra looked much more the junior then Anna did. Without thinking about numbers and all that I would have thought Anna's margin over Alexandra would have been bigger but then I understand why it wasn't. They both definitely look promising

I thought Sasha’s Quad fall was rather graceful and certainly maintained connection to the music. Can’t believe a single judge didn’t give a -4 like they did with some other falls.

I’m like !!

You do understand that Stasya (Konstantinova) is the first senior lady at nationals and therefore set for the team?

This is unprecedented though. Has the world team ever been made up of skaters who all missed the podium at Nats. These kids are relentless in giving headaches to the powers that be and I love it

That's because Russian nationals are weird in that regard (allowing juniors and seniors to compete together).
In 2012 both the gold and silver medalists were juniors (Sotnikova and Lipnitskaya). The bronze was senior though - Leonova.
The same happened in 2009 with Sotnikova and Tuktamysheva who were juniors. Gerbolt was third (and senior).
