2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Why aren’t we discussing quad flip?!?

Trusova signifies change. She's landing multiple types of quads. If anyone can land quads in senior competition, it is Trusova because she approaches figure skating as gymnasts with a gymnast's body.

One day if and when Trusova is on top for long enough, she will be said to have great artistry.;)

Each champion seems nearly invincible until defeated and progress seems impossible until seen.

edit: summarizing my thoughts

So is she fully healed from "growing pains" or whatever it was that she was taped all over for?
em.. It's not something that you supposed to "healed from". It's just something you need to adapt for. And it can takes some time.
and btw... Taping has many roles such as to support the ligaments and as an injury prevention too. And many others. It's not a bad thing to use them. It's just mean that you're taking care and support your body. She used tape .. as you said "all over" the last season too and before. You just didn't pay attention to it.
It was more hard to see because of her thicker tights.

Alina has Osgood-Schlatter disease
This is disastrous and I only think if it possible to ease if not curing totally when finishing with skating?

I have a sort of similar condition with my right knee after a non-sport trauma and it considered permanent. Yet, I'm as trice as older.

Since when did Alina have Osgood-Schlatter? This is really news to me. Polina T was rumored to have it, but I don't even remember any rumor about Alina has it.

Alina has Osgood-Schlatter disease, which is a serious condition for a skater to have. It ended David Wilson's career. On the other hand, Nathan Chen had it and he has made it through, so how each skater deals with it is due to how determined they are to continue. Wilson simply was not as competitive as Chen.

This season has taught us that skaters aren't done until they say they are done, and even then they can come back. Look at Liza. I'm sure this isn't the come back she wanted, pneumonia took her out of RusNats and Euros, but she fought her way to #2 Russian.

Since 2015 at least. She said it on the 3rd of December 2016 answering her friends' questions during Periscope video stream https://youtu.be/TfCjhIqqmlk?t=461

"Yes, I have Schlatter about a year. But Eteri Georgievna says that knees will feel pain anyway if you have Schatter, even with a treatment. I use tapes and do physiotherapy but under physical exertion it will not cure the disease. So I have to endure and wait. Some people suffer from it for three years".

I'm not sure that Alina tells everything correctly from a medical point of view, but about the time of occurrence of the disease, she can't strongly be mistaken.

Edit: now she is the person who suffer from it for three years :(

I think Alina gets it right. As long as the pain isn't too severe she can continue to be active and once she's fully grown the pain should stop anyway. She's grown a lot lately, that'll certainly make her condition worse at the moment.

OK. Another candidate for a knee surgery.

I don't think so. Eteri's statement is correct, as far as I know. If you have it, you have to endure it. The pain should go away eventually.

Are there any news of international assignments yet? Tarusina, Gulyakova, Gubanova, maybe another for Sima?

I hope Liza is still planning to do her show in Italy, so we will see if she can already skate again :)

I posted about Anastasia Guliakova a couple of pages back.

Apparently, Evgenia and Serafima are doing the same show as Liza (Liza is still listed for it, it may change, though? idk).

I hope adding Zhenya does not mean Liza withdrew... Surely the public will appreciate 'Toxic' even if she does not jump

Btw, Anastasia Guliakova said in her IG Q&A that she will compete in Slovenia and Luxembourg in the second half of the season.

Found it thanks! So 2 assignments, well deserved :)

Now you need to be 14 y.o. to compete at Senior RusNat.
But other countries are the same. At National camps there're allowing to compete regardless of age. EVen if it 11-12 years.
USA, Japan, Korea, Canada, China and so on.

Not the case for Japan. Skaters at age 11 or 12 on June 30 of the year have no chance of attending the senior nats, unless the fed make an exception (Mao Asada back in 2002 and 2003 were the only case in the past 25 years.)

I don't know how Liza is doing but Shoma Uno cancelled about a week ago so Zhenya might be the replacement for him. I guess Liza would've cancelled already if she didn't feel well enough to do the show on Friday?

I'm uncertain how it works with the different levels in the Step Sequence.

This is how it all played out in the ladies free at nationals:

Level 4: Kostornaia, Vasilieva, Gubanova, Zagitova
Level 3: Shcherbakova, Trusova, Medvedeva, Konstantinova, Samodurova, Tarusina, Tarakanova, Sotskova
Level 2: Guliakova, Leonova, Talalaikina, Tsurskaya, Panenkova, Nugumanova

What is the criteria for getting level 4??

Edit: Just found the ISU Handbook. Level 4="Must include at least 11 difficult turns and steps. None of the types of turns and steps can be counted more than twice. 5 types of turns and steps must be executed in both directions."

I definitely agree with this. I absolutely love watching Alena Kostornaia skate over most other skaters, regardless of what their age is. ...[snip]

I find it all rather gruesome myself, all that gore and screaming. :reye:
Why don't they get out of the way? What are thinking?

Nastya was level 4! Amazing. Too bad she is scored like she's level 2. :(

As for Alinas Osgood-Schlatters disease I'm very concerned. I hope she can pull out a world championship gold medal this year. It could be her last best chance with her knee and with the Wonder kids coming next year.

OK. Another candidate for a knee surgery.

Very unlikely.
Surgery is a very extreme solution, and quite rarely used, so I do not think that what you said applies and is fair.
Most patients outgrow it. And for those who dont entirely, surgery is still not always recommended.
