2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

What are predictions for Europeans? Do we have possibility of a Russian sweep of podium?

The second question is strange to me. There is not a possibility but the expected Russian sweep. Loena is the only skater who could challenge the trio. She had a good start this season but then things went rough. Because of that I expect that she would not be strong. But if she manages to skate clean, which, once again, I do not expect, then she will be a podium threat.

The correct question would be: "do we have a possibility of a non-Russian's getting the podium?"

The question still is will those 3 be clean or not? Yes there is a huge chance of a Russian podium sweep but hey its stillunpredictable cause any of those 3 can make faults and than it is again not so clear

It depends on the panel really.

There will be surprises for sure because other European girls are getting better, but among the non-russians Loena Hendrikx is the only one that can really challenge the podium if everyone skates relatively clean because she has close PB. (higher than Stasya actually)

Viveca Lindfors, Alexia Paganini are great but so inconsistent.

I think it will be Alina-Sonya-Stasya because it's possible Stasya will make at least one mistake. But what if Alina has another one of those moments and Stasya or Sonya wins Europeans? it would be shocking and amazing.

I think it‘s more than likely that there will be a Russian sweep of the podium. Loena is really good and of course, there‘s always a possibility but if Sofia and Stanislava don‘t make a whole lot of mistakes, I can‘t see Loena on the podium.

Alina is pretty much set for the win, actually. Yet again, there can be a Worlds or Nationals moment but how likely is that? She wasn‘t as stellar as last year all season long so far but she has been pretty solid despite this, only popping a few jumps here and there. Nationals was her only meltdown, the only competition where she fell. I think the odds of that happening again are very, very small.

I also think Sofia will get the silver. She has been so consistent and while Stasya is doing a lot better this year, she still has yet to deliver two perfectly clean programs in one competition. If both make a mistake I can see them giving the PCS edge to Stasya.

As for Stasya or Sofia winning... a lot would have to happen. I like Viveca and Alexia but I don‘t see any chance for them getting a medal. But oh well... maybe I‘ll eat my words.. some crazy things have happened in figure skating before. I personally hope Loena sneaks on the podium because she has been amazing since last year and it would be a real victory for her. But for this the Russian ladies would have to underperform which I also kinda don‘t want. It’s difficult. But at least it will be interesting.

If Loena is at her very best, I don't think she needs any special underperforming by Sofia and Stanislava to get on the podium. However, both Loena and Stanislava are no strangers to popping jumps, so both or one of them may end up outside of the podium, but I think Loena's capable of silver.

Viveca has already beaten Stanislava this season, so this is also not impossible.

Ultimately, I'd be happy with any outcome as long as the performances are great.

With two highly unpredictable skaters? With Sofia who just does not get the PCS? Not likely.

What?

Alina hasn't exactly been Tarusina-like consistent, but then again, no one besides her and Sofia really is. And besides, she's doing the most difficult program without a 3A and has had a successful season. She got a challenger gold, 2 GP golds, silver at the GPF (with a minor injury), and then was fifth at nationals - a competition of world-class caliber.

Stanislava isn't consistent at all - she usually makes mistakes - but I will say she's much better in that regard than last year, in my opinion. And her lowest score of the season is 180. Viveca's SB is 187, Alexia's is 182, and Loena's is 204 - so Loena has the best chance to beat her, especially if Stasya's not clean. But I believe that Stanislava's work with a sport psychologist has helped her a lot.

Sofia's PCS has been rising throughout the season - a product of her consistency and consistent delivery. I see no reason that this shouldn't continue at Euros, because I can't see her melting down. In fact, I can't remember if she's ever totally melted down.

I think a Russian sweep is extremely likely if all 3 are clean. If only 2 are clean, I'd expect them to still earn gold and silver. Loena definitely is one to consider, and I'm excited to see another match-up between her and Stanislava :)

Sorry for asking a strange question. My sincere apologies

Sorry, but I do not agree. Alina does not bomb 2 programs so that I expect her to score above 200 even if she skates Rusnats style. Sofia does not bomb - a small mistake like Rusnats will still get her well above 190. Stasya, yes, can "malfunction" big time. But she has not this season. Loena WD from one GP stage, lost to Stasya another one. She has 200+ from Nebelhorn where Alina set a WR.

Anything is possible, but based on how this season goes it is more likely that Loena, Alexia, Viveca and others bomb rather than the Russians. Which means that the sweep is expected. But ice is slippery so that I would not bet to eat my hat if it does not happen.

Stasya may be inconsistent, but I think some people here are undervaluing her solid skating skills and the fact that her programs have more polish than Sofia's. She will outscore her in PCS so long as she doesn't meltdown or skate stiff like she did in Helsinki, and we are likely past that.

I will go out on a limb and say it's gonna be
1. Konstantinova
2. Samodurova
3- Zagitova
...just a feeling I have...

With two highly unpredictable skaters? With Sofia who just does not get the PCS? Not likely.

So... the podium won’t consist of the WR holder for FS and CT? And the highest senior finisher at the bloodbath that is known as Russian Nationals? Alina, who, even when not performing at her best gets better FS scores than Alexia and Viveca won’t be on the podium? Yep, definitely.

Stasya had a pop and UR at RusNats, but that’s already legions better than the entire bad short, sketchy free pattern that has been following her. If she continues improving in consistency, she’s a lock for the podium here.

The possibility for a Russian sweep is like 90% at this point. Loena could obviously play spoiler though, especially if at her best.

Internationally, they get nearly same PCs.

I don't think she's reached the ceiling on her PCS for the free considering it hasn't been consistently clean. It may not be by much, but there's a little bit of a gap there. The difference between them in the short on the GP circuit is instructive for their baselines.

I would say we have a lock for 2 medals.
3rd one is up to grabs, but Loena needs to be at 100%.

Maybe an unpopular oppinion here, but imho, if Loena is clean, judges will prop her. They dont seem to like podium sweeps.

there is no big difference between them in short, specially not after Sonia made GPF.

so you think Konstantinova will have the best skate of her life and Zagitova will bomb. idk that's highly unlikely

EC is Alina's to lose - I doubt she will be perfect with her growth issues but she is a fighter! Let's say with a singled combo / 2 urs she will still get ~220 and sorry but the only european lady who could beat a score like that is still recovering from pneumonia :)

Sofia will hopefully not get buried by pcs.

Stasya should be on the podium if she is clean. She is the 'adult winner' at RusNats and judges already liked her before that. But can she be clean?

Viveca and Loena need mistakes from Sofia & Stasya (or Sofia to get buried by the judges for whatever reason hkzhfrhh) AND skate clean - which is more unlikely than the first condition - to get on the podium. Loena's SB this season is a lot better than her other results... and it's from Nebelhorn, where imho the judges did not really know what to do in the new system (sorry Alina :) ) - I like her SP and hope she recovered from her injuries! Curious to see how she will get scored in relation to Sofia at europeans.

Soon we will also have JunRusNats for exciting competition with amazing talents!

From 3A it's Sasha's turn for a gold - Alena and Anna already got one in the competitions all three compete this season :)

Will Tarakanova's pcs now drop to 50 in junior competition for a clean skate?

Podium is unlikely but I hope Alena Kanysheva will get rewarded by the judges for her great edges, consistency and textbook jumps <3

And we will see Usacheva and Valieva... :)

But Alina even when she's off her game usually scores much higher than the competition she will have that Europeans
