2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

so who still thinks Konstantinova should go to Worlds ? she has history of doing well only in domestic competitions

Tuk/Zagitova/Samodurova should be solid team in keeping 3 spots
with Med as the first alternate

There is a Russian saying: "Don't say Yes! before you jump it over". Let's wait for the FS. Leider (I like it much more than "unfortunately" or "к сожалению") we won't go to Minsk to see it live.

I'm reserving my judgment on Konstantinova until after the free skate but I'm not optimistic. I feel bad for her but Russia can afford to be picky with placements when their field is so deep.

Does Sofia get any extra credit for her weed-whacker arm in her jumps? I think it just looks so ugly and unnecessary. I get the Rippon arms because it makes the jump appear higher and is aesthetically interesting. The weed-whacker arm in my opinion makes the jumps look lower and messy. I'd rather she just do it straight.

I'm just happy that Alina decided to keep competing and not just run off into the sunset with her gold medal like all the other teen prodigies have done since Oksana back in 1994. She's competed more then Oksana, Tara, Sarah and Adelina have combined.

 Absolutely agree. Alina's given us a great gift in staying competitive after the Olympics. I also agree with the other posters saying she has untapped performance potential yet to be discovered. I hope Eteri and co don't forget about her after 3A turn senior, as she is super talented and I feel like we have yet to see her best.

I like the variation of tano myself but that doesn’t mean a judge has to. Judges arent forced to award extra points to anything they find detracts from a jump. If they share your opinion they certainly don’t and have never had to award anything.

I hope Stanislava is not sent to Worlds at all costs. I don't care if the Team is Alina, Liza, Sofia, or even Evgenia, but enough is enough. At some point merit has to win out.

I have a bad feeling that Stanislava will be sent to Worlds unless she bombs the free as well. Though she most likely will. Sofia has to go the extra mile, any slip up or sign of weakness and she will be dumped immediately. She has to beat Stanislava in the free, or else her spot will be gone. I am sure the Russians will find a way to put Stanislava. It may mean knocking Liza. Most of you don't understand.

I really don't understand, though. And don't even know where this has come from. Sofia earned her spot at the GPF, earned her spot in the team for Euros, and it's been skating well enough to keep her spot on the team, but I do not understand why people think Stanislava has also not earned her spot on the team. She was the best senior skater at Nats, that's an automatic nod for the team. And last year she also was the best qualified after Evgenia skipped, so that's why she was sent to worlds. It's simple as that, at the moment I have not yet seen her getting favored over other skaters, especially when she's done her part domestically. Now, internationally is another story, but she also competed much better than her peers that were left off the team this time, so I don't see the big deal. People want to see things that just aren't there. :noshake:

Really - is she that powerful with influence?

No. But it’s become a rumour that won’t die, despite no one having proof that her father is somehow connected to the Russian skating federation. [emoji849]

For whatever reason I really don’t want Alina to have warhorses next season. I want to see her with a couple of unknown pieces, the so-called “strange” out of the box programs that Evgenia had, the kind that Eteri’s juniors have now. Like Valieva’s unique program, for example. Anyone agree?

I've been thinking about this a lot. Alina's free program from 2015 to "Unchained Melody" was such a beautiful, breathtaking program. If she did a modified version of this program today with her amazing jumps and spins, it would be an absolute masterpiece. I think it would show a different, more emotional skater that you can't necessarily see in her programs this season. Please Daniil give Alina soft music next season!!

Is there any rule stating that the top age-eligible skater from Nationals automatically goes to Worlds? If there is, they could easily still send Konstantinova, no questions asked. (Just a big fuss from FS fans, of course, but that happens no matter what.)

Last years she was far from the best qualified--Polina T? And there's a reason Stanislava does well at Nats--the scoring is incredibly biased in her favor, for obvious reasons. Her international PCS is about the same or lower than Sofia, yet she was getting much higher PCS at nats despite messier skates. Had nats been scored properly, she would have lost ~3 points in the short and ~5 in the long, and she probably would have been the 4th ranked senior skater. She's done her part domestically precisely because she is favored.

Just watch and see. I will be elated to see Sofia and Liza get the chance they deserve. But I have a bad feeling about this, is all I'm saying

Well, with the warhorse medley programs progressing to warhorse mashups that Alina has been supplied with by Daniil through these two seasons, the odds are unlikely. We can however probably expect one of her programs to be as 'musically experimental' as POTO. Perhaps The Four Seasons that has the following sequence: starts with Autumn - thunderstorm sound effect - alternates between Summer and Winter 3 times - howling wind sound effect - concluding with Spring. That would be a program I can't wait to see ;).

I think that Sofia should be leading today. Alina is still getting Olympic champion PCS and Sofia seems underscored.

Alina skated almost clean... but why does she look lately like she is gonna burst into tears/throw up when she steps on the ice?

Stanislava... no surprise here.

that's mostly just her resting face lol. last season she always started don quixote smiling and the starting position for black swan partially hid her face so it wasn't that obvious. I think its also part of the character for POTO since she never looks like that at the beginning of carmen

I don't know somehow Stanislava managed to show her worst at the most important international competitions. At this point, Even Evgenia is a better choice. I have a feeling Alina is hanging there, probably tired from all the competitions. I hope she gets some real rest before Worlds.

Assuming she wins the world bronze or finishes off the podium, hence fueling her desire to return instead of being a part of the revolving door mentality, and assuming she can retain her jumps for next season, though, right?

The scores between her and Alina were so close at nationals. And Alina skated after Stanislava. The judge easily could have had allowed the olympic champion to finish first among seniors to increase her confidence for the rest of the season. But they didn't. To me that implies that they wanted a reason to pick Stanislava for future competitions.
