2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Europeans today is a splat feast. What is going on. Stanislava like I expected got the big competition jitters :/ hope she can save that in the Free Skate

A Russian sweep now seems impossible. Surely this means that Tuktamysheva is now clear for worlds...?

It depends on what Stasya does in the FS. I mean, yes, it‘s unlikely but she‘s more of a FS skater anyway. She can surely climb the ranks. Whether a medal is possible... well, we‘ll see. It would require mistakes from others and a near perfect skate from her. Maybe she‘ll do it. It was very sad to see her cry like this..

Whatever happens tomorrow, though, I think the Worlds team will be Liza, Alina and Sofia. They can‘t remove Sofia from the team, not with the consistent season she had. (Or at least they really shouldn’t) I hope they‘ll send Stanislava and Evgenia to Universiade.

Pending the free program, I think Sofia has made a strong case for a spot on the Worlds team throughout this season. She has proven herself to be reliable and able to skate under pressure at all events this season. After missing the WJC team last season, it's great to see her competing with such confidence.

There is no way Stanislava should be sent to Worlds again. Absolutely not. How many times does she have to bomb before the Russian Fed stops trying to promote her?

With the exception of her short at IdF, she has not been bombing this season. I agree she should not be sent to Worlds, but her selection to Europeans was justified by her GPF alternate status and her placement at Nationals.

Then again, I don’t expect nuance or logic from the rare silver fox, which only emerges from its habitat to engage in discussions when a Chebotareva skater does poorly.

This competition was a bit boring lol. It looks like Alina's 2A and 3F are a bit higher than what they used to be, and especially the 3F even with the mistake it always looks majestic to me when she does it. Sofia is sort of reaching Evgenia level consistency and that's great, and I'm willing to even bet that she medals at Worlds (because I can  ). I don't think that we can trust Stasya to pull it together and be clean tomorrow, but if she could she would end up on top over Alexia Paganini. I believe Sofia will be clean tomorrow too and she definitely has a shot at that first place too if you ask me (I know this sounds a bit farfetched, but considering what happened at RusNats, still possible). Another thing I noticed is that Alina seems a bit thinner in her legs compared to RusNats, and I'm just hoping she won't end up stick-thin like Evgenia was during last season.

As for Worlds, unless Stanislava is completely clean tomorrow and ends up 3rd behind Alina and Sofia, I don't think she'll be sent, and Liza will go instead.

I think Stanislava already lost her chance to go to worlds, assuming Liza will be in good shape to return. Sofia is on an upward trajectory, and unless she bombs in the FS, which she hasn't done yet, I don't see her losing the podium and spot on the team - it's not like I expected anything different to happen though, Stanislava isn't known to be consistent, and it was too hard for her to skate like she did at Nats, which is unfortunate.

Its fine, next year all these girls will be forgotten and the reign of 4A will begin
1. You don't have to drag other skaters just to let your favs shine
2. I'm certain no one will just forget skaters when they like them or even if you just follow the sports
3. We never know what will happen next season, sure, most likely 3a will be very good and most likely at the top. But figure skating is unpredictable so let's not say things like that, shall we? +it's really not nice to all the other skaters

Unfortunate that Stasya's SP didn't go well. On the other hand, I'm happy that Sofia has been skating consistently, she's proven to be reliable and on an upward trajectory which is fantastic. I feel that she's made a strong case this season to be part of the worlds team. I hope that she has a great FS as well! I think the only thing that might be holding back a worlds team spot may be that her SB is not that high compared to someone like Liza or Alina, and I'm not too sure about her scoring potential either, and with the Japanese skaters, her SB probably won't be enough to podium unless everyone else does badly. Hopefully she'll prove us all that she's one who'll keep climbing anyway. If I were Russian Fed, I'd probably send Alina, Liza, and Sofia to worlds. Good luck to all the ladies this championship!

We'll see how much Stasya can recover and how Sonia's going to do, but if no major upset happens, it's already decided which of the girls should be swapped for Liza at Worlds. Sad to see Stasya fall prey to her nerves once again, but I am very happy for Sofia. She never fails to make me smile with her skating.

Agreed. Stasya deserved her euro spot.

Sad for Stasya. This is most likely the last time she will be on the Russian national team. It's largely a mental game with her. She's alot like Pogo in that she's very beautiful and elegant. But she struggles in the biggest competitions.

I hope we‘ll see Stasya and Zhenya at the Universiade together.

And Team Mishin + Alina can go to Worlds. :)

Absolutely no way Stanislava is going to be sent to Worlds. It's good to manage to deliver at Nationals, but she doesn't do well at the most important competitions, so I don't see how the Russian Fed can still support her now. If they sent her at Worlds, they will maybe lose their three spots. I at least hope she is going to do better in te free skate.
Sofia is just getting better and better. I love how she carries herself on the ice and her consistency. She has a good technique as well. I think she will medal, and I want her to take silver or even maybe gold.
Alina ! I'm so happy she didn't bomb. After Russian nationals, I was afraid it was going to affect her confidence, but she seems good. Unfortunately, she still underrotates, so she will have to fix that, because it can make her win or lose at Worlds (for example, against a clean Rika Kihira). Hope she will do well in the free!

Stasya will probably be second alternate with Zhenya first alternate. The worlds team is set barring injury or illness.

Exactly. Did anyone predict this year's Euro team last year?

Um, these girls are real people, not some humanoid Russian flags to score you points.

And sadly, if this trend continue, the minute 3A goes senior, some people will gush over other jumping kids and drag those juniors into talk about senior competiions. And god forbid any of them lost their ability to jump as they do now and struggled.

I think that Sofia should be leading today. Alina is still getting Olympic champion PCS and Sofia seems underscored.

Alina skated almost clean... but why does she look lately like she is gonna burst into tears/throw up when she steps on the ice?

Stanislava... no surprise here.
