2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Today Daniil commented European Gala exhibition and said who will go to Junior Nationals from "Khrustalny". Trusova, Sherbakova, Kostornaya and Usacheva. Valieva will not go because of a small injury.

 :sad21:
Isn't Maya the first substitute though? She should go.

Anyway, I doubt it'll affect Kamila's JGP events next season, because she's dominated so much this season. As long as she performs well at Elder Age Nationals, she should be good to go.

For the FS that "if clean" is becoming a much bigger 'if', it's unfortunate that they can't do a switch for the SP and FS, let Alina do the SP where she is fine and then put Stanislava in for the FS where she does remarkably well.

I was thinking the same thing this morning except I did not want to write that. ;)

I hope not. That would be dumb and unfair.

Why? They've said Nationals, Europeans and the Russian Cup Final will determine who goes to Worlds, fact is that only 1 that has taken care of business at Nationals/Euros was Sofia. As long as everyone knows that Russian Cup will determine Worlds I'm fine with them doing essentially a 'skate-off' - this might become the norm for Russia to deal with the situation of a crowded field.

I know I have entered an alternate universe when winning 3 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals is considered "unreliable".

Welcome to this alternate universe. ;)

Worlds is a world away or o it seems so it will give Alina time to work on things. Alina and Sofia should be set and if Liza is healthy she goes.

For those people who think that Daniil and Eteri don't understand what's going on

Daniil answer —
It’s difficult period for us after all. Not everything is going well but we all want our Olympic champion to skate for many seasons ahead right? To continue make people happy with her skate. I just don’t understand some specialists and experts, who escalate the situation and instead of supporting her criticize unreasonably, I’d even say with unjustified cruelty. Let’s be kinder to our athletes and support them and everything will be alright

Just saw Alina's ex at Euros and her jumps looked pretty good. So I don't think she is "losing" her jumps, but more of a loss of consistency.

Valieva :(

Shabotova is still going right? I hope she wont be rattled too much from her shortlived 'scandal' because she has potential...

Re skate off: Thank God only the alternates are invited! Alina really should be able to take a break to train and not be ready for competition 24/7. She obviously does not need yet another competition before worlds, she is tired enough as it is.

I hope both Liza and Zhenya show good skates!!
My ideal scenario is still Sonya - Alina - Liza at worlds and Stasya - Zhenya for Universiade and that will only happen if neither bombs. No need to be perfect but... :(

If Liza bombs the only chance she has for a Worlds spot is if she really convinces at the Universiade (and the Professor - who is always right - does not want her to compete there for the best shot in Saitama).

If Liza does fine but Zhenya shows another RusNats/GP performance I have a feeling they will not allow Liza to skip Universiade. It's not a major tournament, but it's a big event in Russia and the gold medal will not be secure with Stasya & out of shape Zhenya. Universiade gets quite a bit of promo in Russia, and FS is a major sport with lots of attention - Japanese no4 Mai Mihara is going and you can't sent a team to a home tournament that has no main favourite to win gold.

Tuktamysheva is more slavic (russian) than tatar, comparing her with Zagitova, there is too much difference, since she is more tatar than Russian; instead, other girls like Shcherbakova are more balanced (50/50) russian-tatar.

Tuktamysheva is Udmurt.

Yeah they looked nice and stable. She's probably well rested and obviously with a lot less pressure. I'd love something like this as a competitive program next season :luv17:

I think its a little more concerning that the issues are mental more than physical, broken bones/sore muscles - a tangible thing to fix, mental issues that show up at competition much more difficult because its something that only happens at competition.

Indeed, and very well said by Gleikhengauz. I don't know what is wrong with Russian press, I am trying to read as much as possible but it is hard to find authoritative sources of original information by reputable agencies that isn't quoted or mangled by the sports tabloids.
For the viciousness of the attacks on social media, I hope both the trainers and sportsmen know how to distance themselves from this form of plebeian justice, or mob rule.

When everybody returns to their home bases tomorrow, Tuesday will be the first a day of evaluation before training for the World Championships commences.
The skaters must all feel secure and comfortable again, to be back in their own rinks.

Could be that there is not zillion stupid transitions between them, so she has enough time and stamina to make her elements clean.

If they are sending her to world's, they really need to cut down the transitions. I mean, Kostner gotten big PCS and she never had program where she was moving her limbs all the time... quality is also what counts.

Apparently, Alina said she is training quad loop.... I pray to all Gods we do NOT get another video of her doing underrotated horribly landed "quad" in harness. Please... let the girl rest. She looked very exhausted in her FS.

Now that I think about it..... If it ends up being successful and she's able to land them as consistently as Anna and Sasha next year or at least at the end of next season, it might be worth it having this as a transition year. Then again I don't know how smart it is to do it while there are issues with underrotation, but hey, I'm no expert ;)

Where did you get this info from btw?
