There are ladies like Alena Leonova who just go on and compete here and other for the sheer joy for it, which is great.

Yes. Her back injury cost her so much. Hoping Anna is pain free now and can make a competitive comeback or atleast skate in the professional shows. .

I hope she does some shows this winter then if her back is fine perhaps shoot for a comeback next season. Anna is one of my favorites. Such a beautiful woman.

Exactly my point. It doesn't only happen in Russia, and within Russia it doesn't only happen in Eteri's group. From the top of my head I can think of Adam Rippon and Gracy Gold, and the numerous injuries Yuzuru has had. Also, Kaitlyn Osmond.

Also, it is incredibly unfair to dismiss Alina's amazing season and Olympic Gold Medal as "one who was just lucky enough to have a good streak at just the right time." Seriously? Even Alina's critics this season will admit she had a fabulous last season. And in saying that, you are basically also dismissing over half of the Olympic women's gold medalists in figure skating history. Do you really want to go there? Comments like yours are exactly why people retire right after winning the OGM.

Anybody who reads such bull**** would know that it's not true. Alina simply PEAKED exactly at the right moment, that's a very different thing than "having a streak/being lucky".
A peak is sth you work towards. She worked her entire life for that peak and got there just at the right moment and Evgenia was unfortunate to start declining just at that same time.

It's just what happened with Adelina Sotnikova. I can't recall her ever having two clean programs in her entire senior career, correct me here. For the entire 13/14 season she was totally unstable and did not land a single clean 3Lz-3T, never finished her programs on time with the music etc. But then in Sochi it all came together for her and she had the 2 best performances of her carreer.
Luck? No, simply delivering at the right moment.
For some it happens for others sadly the timing isn't right.

Yulia wasn't unlucky to have 2 falls at the Olympics after skating an astonishing season, she just wasn't able to withstand the psychological pressure, sadly.

As much as I enjoy winners I love skaters like Leonova. Skaters don’t owe us a long career but it’s nice to see the change and the growth.

Leonova is always a highlight in the GP for me. You can just see that she has so much fun and her programs reflect that.

This. I hope Leonova skates into her 30s. I like how enthusiastic she still is about performing.

Leonova could have won bronze or silver in this Europeans. It was unfortunate she was 12th at her nationals. Her example shows that you can skate as long as you want. It's just you need to overcome the psychological barrier that you may not be in first places any more. Providing that you have the relevant income to keep training and etc.

Yes, and no GP unfortunately means no Russian Nationals anymore...unless she qualifies via Russian Cup series.

I think it’s possible for her still to qualify for nationals. She placed above a few girls who qualified via the Russian Cup. She beat them once, she can again.

Junior Nationals are coming up, and I’m really curious: Is it a firm rule that the top three at Junior nationals will go to Junior Worlds, or does the past season/senior nationals come into consideration as well? I fully understand that Junior Nationals is meant to select for Junior Worlds, but I can’t imagine a fed leaving their senior national champion or their JGPF champion behind. Not that I’m trying to predict that Kostornaya or Shcherbakova will be off the podium or anything, but I just wanted to know how it works.

If she deserves it and outskates someone from the 3A, I'd love that because she's such a good skater, but that would be very hard, and the fed might have another girl they want to push aside from the 3A.

I don't think so. She has had GP assignments every year since 2009, thus always qualifying to RusNats.

I doubt RusFed will help her, especially after her low score at Sr nationals.

I could see Anna crumblibg under the pressure though. She doesn’t have as much experience in the big comps as the others and being Sr National champ probably added a lot of expectations.
