2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Not familiar with the local jargon, does "lilbet" refer to Tursynabeva? If yes, then the example doesn't count. I don't want to elaborate why an adult woman in a little child body is not a good example for anything, as I already received an infringement notification for that.

well i know i wont be able to convince you otherwise so i guess you'll just have to patiently wait for alina or any of eteri's upcoming seniors to succeed after puberty. i don't think you'll be waiting too long, alena seems to have already gone through the worst of it, it's pretty obvious her body has completely changed since a couple years ago and she's still doing great.

Yes, let's exclude a whole ethicity/body type from any debate because they are not a good example (or not legit?). Disgusting.

If Liza wants to go to Worlds she absolutely should, no questions asked. If she can't because injury then okay but it's up to her or the coach to say this, not someone else.

The judging makes me believe RusFed (or TAT) really wants Zhenya at Worlds, otherwise she would have not won with that shaky free skate. I don't know what they want to prove, they're objectively pushing a weaker skater right now.

I'm not confident Evgenia would skate two clean programs at Worlds, plus all her issues with the spins that are still there, and i'm not even sure scores would be this high there, on the other hand Liza technically has never bombed a program this season, yes she can fall on a 3a but then skate clean the rest of the program.

Liza is arguargbly a better skater than even Alina Zagitova right now.

Well the fact they're having any debate at all suggests they're trying to push Evgenia onto the team doesn't it? Any other federation (including the USFSA!) would have easily put Liza on the team without hesitation with the season she's had. It's not like she went to nationals and bombed or is nursing some injury that would make them question. One girl had a fantastic season (second best of her career) while the other had easily her worst yet judging from how things are proceeding you wouldn't know that. You would think both girls had a similar record this season and that they're neck and neck.

Maybe the outcome would be different but you can’t re write history. It’s a pity for Liza but Sofia is a good skater, she remembers me of Alina last year, being consistent and better for each competition.

Alina had better GOE potential on her jumps and a proper lutz edge. Also, a lot more of edge work and better patterns and spins. For a Worlds level Sofia this year is more like Sotskova from last year for me, top 10 for sure but unlikely top 5 or a medal winner. Which is still quite good, but not that special

I don’t think Sofia is this year’s Masha, nor do I think Masha couldn’t have been top 5 (she was 2nd at the GPF). Sofia is consistent and rotates her jumps, and not many of her competitiors satisfy both those qualities.

We can see the difference between Eteri and Orser programs. Zhenia is slower and less rushed.
..and therefore becoming rather boring. Hate Eteri or not, but packaging, programs and choreography by their team are never boring.

Could any Russian speakers tell me what people in K/C are saying when they say something like "Sempri yes" into the camera? It probably means hello or I did it. Thanks!

I think you are referring to, "Всем привет." Sounds like: vsyem pree-vyet. Rough translation: Greetings to all.

We need to cancel 3percontrying. We want to see the best against the best on Worlds. Raise your hand who bothers with watching first 2 warm-ups? They are pretty meaningless anyway. Figure skating would be much more spectacular if we would get to see all talented and strongest skater to be given their fair chance. Worlds would be more exciting to watch.

Let's STOP this discriminative quota system! Otherwise talented skaters (who train very hard) have to stay home just because they were born at the countries with deep field, and less talented skaters (and probably less trained and prepared) are going to competion instead of them just because they were born at the country/continent with less concurrent field. Not fair to those who are more talented and work harder.

I don't remember what should be the sum of two top places to provide three slots next WC?
AFAIR finishing 4th and 5th place should be enough. Maybe even 5+6 if Lilibet does her job.
Caro is not going.

If all medals are japanized, RusFed needs to combine the most stable of her ladies and without internal tensions.
I doubt sending both Zagi and Med would do any good. Both of them will bomb and drop way below.

The top two have to add up to 13 or less to retain 3 spots :)

5th and 8th would do the trick

They just need to expand Cup of Russia events and start filling bigger arenas and do a behind the scenes reality type TV show to boost ratings and attendance. It could probably even surpass ISU ;)

13, and I doubt they'll lose their three spots. Sofia can get a solid top 5 for sure, so that's a lot of room.

Russian and Japanese ladies could just form their own commercial FS league. GFSL - Global FS League. The "NHL/NBA analogue for figure skating". No one cares about flags and nationalities. The only thing matters - talent. Uncompromised ultimate competition. No flag-wavings, no 2-or 3-per-country quotas. 2 big tournaments per year. With qualification series open for everyone. Create separate global FS federation and ditch the ISU. Is all of these too much to ask? ;)

Sure. Do the same for every other Olympic sport, both Summer & Winter, then only talk. Then answer those Russian athletes from some sports(and fans) who wouldnt qualify for Olympics if that happens. I'll like to see 4 to 5 entrants from my country for certain sports too.
It's the Olympic quota rule for inclusivity.

Some sports was not voted in as Olympic sports cos they say the medal winners are only from a few select countries, deemed not inclusive enough.

There are tricky rules where if you withdraw from ISU events you are qualified for and participate in non ISU events some sort of discipline happens. It might be tricky. I say just make the Russian Cup more lucrative and keep talented skaters from retiring. Someone like Gubanova deserves to earn a living for her talent and competive level. It’s ridiculous she’s never been to a major international event besides the JGPF in which she took silver behind Alina. It’s all sorts of crazy IMO!!

Tarakanova is on a similar path!!!

The Canadians jest released their picks for the worlds. We are talking here about leaving Evgenia home, while they are sending Aurora.
Three ladies per country rule... :palmf:
