2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I get the arguments for just 3 spots. Figure Skating needs to be more globalised. But I think 4 spots is the way to go though. Then you would have a better balance between the best and the rest. It's mostly 4 spots that is the quota for most winter sports. I don't think Norway would appreciate if it was down to only 3 spots in Cross Country Skiing!?!?

I don´t know much about the cross country rules, but aren´t there like about 80-100 to start? It´s almost 100 starting in biathlon, and about 4 spots for Norway last OG. So you can´t really use that as an example because there aren´t that many starting in figure skating. I think the rules makes sense when you see the numbers that start. Or do you mean that they should have for example a 4 spots rule and then extend the numbers of starters, and still allow spots for other small countries?

I didn't get characters of Evgenia at all, in contrast with Leonova and Talalaikina for example.
Gubanova's program is not "Russian style", it's the world way to use not vigorous beautiful music for the lovely figure skater - in every country you can find a lot of programs that will lose absolutely nothing if music, costume, choreo sequences will be changed for something similar.

I dont know how to explain it in detail but it can be recognised when it's a domestic competition. At Russia Cup, Evgenia's program stands out as the North American style, different. Liza adds her own flavour into it, different.
The rest, same old same old except for the girl who tried using Indian music. I was amused, she was not very successful in Indian dance but good try.

The Japanese have a certain style, the US & Canada skaters have another. If it's ice princess image, each will have different nuances. While the South Koreans style will depend on who is their coach.

I get what you mean though, the other word to describe is 'generic' program.

Alexandr Gorshkov, chief of RusFed started a poll about national team for Worlds and fan's preferences https://m.vk.com/wall-24972370_254878

answer 1 - Med, Tukt, Samodurova
answer 2 - Med, Tukt, Zagitova
answer 3 - Med, Samodurova, Zagitova
answer 4 - Tukt, Zagitova, Samodurova

Sorry, I think that I read that page inattentively :slink:

LOL, what is FFKKR thinking, are they this desperate?

It is ridiculous how he compares domestic score in FKR to EC, and declares that Medvedeva is the highest scoring athlete among the four.

What's the problem?
Let's be happy we have seen two very artistic and expressive performances from Zhenya and Liza this week that have beat Rika Kihira all the way in the Netherlands in the last competition before the world championship.

Liza and Zhenya are now main favorites for the world championship! 10+ pts above the main contender for gold direct competition!

/sarcasm if you cannot tell

Whatever the purpose of the Olympic mission was back in 1896 the reality today is quite different. But that's not my point.

No...no it's not. It's very much the same movement, even more so. You must not have ever been to an Olympic Games. It's so much more then just a sporting festival. Why bother with the Olympics when every sport has a annual World Championship with the best of the best? It's why North Korea and South Korea joined as a unified team in Women's hockey. Why North Korea participated at all. It brings sports that are not watched on a normal basis and interests people to learn more and kids to fall in love. Yes, it's about what people do while they are there but the Olympic's it's also about the people's story of getting there. The exact same mission as it was in 1896. Educate and unite through sport to make the world's youth a better tomorrow.

Three skaters per country limitation is one nonsense for me, but the worst nonsense for me is that Kaetlyn wins spots for Aurora or Larkyn. Those two girls have absolutely no contribution to Kaetlyn’s success, have literally nothing to do with it, and yet, they are going to major events because of Kaetlyn’s hard work and talent.
Those two girls are not qualified, have absolutely no business showing themself to any international audience. How come do they even feel entitled to take advantage of Kaetlyn’s success?
Kaetlyn won the Olympic and WC medals only for herself and is the only one entitled to be taking advantage of it. And literally nobody else.
That’s the most ridiculous rule for me.

It is not about one skater, nor every skater for themselves. The system with spots is about developing the sport. Kaetlyn wins the spots for Canada, just like how Yuna Kim won spots for South Korea for many years, and now South Korean skating is slowly developing into a world contender.

You cannot compare RFC to CC. Challenge Cup is known for giving low scores.

Michelle is still eligible to come back, isn't she? Sorry, the last 30 pages of this thread has driven me bonkers. lmao
