2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I watched it. They were hard on her. They think that Zhenya should be sent instead because they feel that she's the more well-rounded skater. They also seemed to suggest that Liza ought to retire soon because she won't stand a chance against the uber juniors.

Well if they were only hard on her skating and not on her looks it's ok. I'll watch later. :agree: Russian girls over 20 should always retire for every expert :)

Maybe I can get some other point of view on Zhenya because I don't understand how going to worlds could be good for her atm. But they are closer & support TCC so I'll look for some optimism :P

I am not sure that this is the right venue for the discussion of Olympic principles and values. However, as you have named my opinions inaccurate I shall reiterate them just one more time.

Modern Olympics were created due to the efforts of Pierre de Coubertin. How it evolved since then, what was said and was done is a different story (like 1936 in Berlin). De Coubertin said: "The Olympic Games were created for the exhaltation of the individual athlete. They were created for the glorification of the individual champion".

In the very first games of 1896 there were no team events except for tennis doubles. However, those pairs were often international so that they were no country team events. In the second games they added footbal.

Yahoo and sports.ru were given as example. One should be very idealistic, to put it mildly, to believe that Olympics is not about politics. 1980 and 1984, anyone? The example of South and North Korea was pure politics. I would not go into details. I just remind about the organized group of North Korean fans of about 50 during the pairs event. They came only to support their pair and did it in a sort of an eery way. Then they left during the Zamboni break. They were not there for South Korean skaters. So much for "getting closer theories"...

...yes "obliterating the borders" may be too strong a phrase to rephrase the real words of Coubertin that Olympics were for individual athletes, not for countries and their medal counts.

Ins't the Olympics all about money these days, besides politics? NBC paying billions for the TV rights and 'demanding' the events where coveted US Golds were likely to be won to be scheduled in US prime time? CocaCola and McD sponsoring the games with their 'healthy' food and drinks? Apart from London 2012, which I think was a success both in sports and business, many OG's of late and still coming tend to be organised by certain kind of governments with 10's of billions to spend on raising their prestige.

Lmao FFKR. What a move.

Oh btw, if anyone is wondering, Konstantinova is not going to worlds. They just went with the nominal, post RN team since they had to submit entries before the ISU deadline. They are going to spend more time deciding whether Tuk or Med will go and we have more of this soap opera.

Well if they were only hard on her skating and not on her looks it's ok.

Her looks? They've got to be kidding, right?

Don't get me wrong, Zhenya is pretty as a picture. But Liza looks like she is having so much fun and wants me to have fun, too.

They should organize one more event Tuk vs Med. They also could earn some extra money on tickets.

Lets just have another russian skate-off 4-5 days prior to WC. All contestants are obliged to participate, both nominees and alternates.

I would like to have Liza on the team. She had a wonderful season and being on the team should not be based on one event only.If having two Mishin girls is a problem, what are they gonna do next season with all the Eteri girls(hope they are all healthy and in good shape). Also if I had to choose on worlds I will send Alina, Liza and Zhenya. Sofia had a good season and is stable but to fight for medals she needs other girls to make mistakes and her technique can't be compared with Liza's. Also why Russia not send its top skaters. If any of them is clear they will have medals no matter what other skaters are doing. I like Konstantinova. She has two very good programs, beautiful arms and body movements and is quite expressive and fast on the ice. The thing is that she can't cope with her nerves. I don't think the Rus Fed is considering sending her to worlds, she had to be really clean at the universiade to have slight chances.

Off topic, but somebody put Canadian pairs under Russian entries on Wikipedia and I thought, well, that's not out of the question given this whole situation :p

You can be sure there will be many 'control trainings' with mandate detailed reporting as to the readiness, stability and scoring potential of every skater's SP and FP if FFKKR takes it's medal chances seriously.

This is straight out of Martha Karolyi's playbook where she used to name the "main team" after the world selection camp. She would also take the "alternates" to Worlds to train alongside the "main team" and then actually announce who the final team would be like 3 minutes before they competed.

Does anyone remember 2015 Glasgow when Skinner was made the alternate like 12 hours before they competed? And then Brenna was booted from the team after she fell on bars in qualifications? A figure skating equivalent of the last example would be a federation forcing a skater to withdraw after the short program because they fell and might jeopardize spots.

It's great to ensure that these girls can compete under immense pressure by never guaranteeing them a spot until the competition arrives to keep them in fighting form. But as we've seen from USAG, it's certainly not healthy at all in the long run.

I'm going to laugh if Kostantinova ends up going after all is said and done.

Maybe they really just cannot decide, and go with Nationals after all!

That being said, for whoever does not go, to see your name listed in the worlds team, knowing that your spot could likely be taken from you, with people debating over who to send as your replacement, must be quite disheartening.

Wanting to safely keep 3 spots is at the core of this whole thing. What I said isn't controversial. The scoring this season has indicated that Zhenya is a safe bet for a top 6 finish. The problem with sending Liza and Sofia together with Alina is that Alina is the only one with a PCS cushion, and that's concerning if Rusfed is worried about tech issues on the day.

The scoring this season indicates Zhenya a safe bet for top 6 at Worlds? Hold up...What?? She wasn't even top six at her own nationals, lost to Liza and was 3rd at GP Canada, and 4th at GP France one of the weaker GP events to one of the Japanese girls who didn't even make her own national's World's team and Brady Tennell. I mean this ain't 2017.

We don't know what RUfed is thinking but obviously there is no possible way RUfed would send her if they were actually concerned with keeping 3 spots.

One hour before the draws?

"Each ISU Member may enter for each discipline one substitute in the
case of one entry and no more than two substitutes in the case of
two or more entries. The substitutes may compete only if their ISU
Members have withdrawn the name of their Competitors initially
entered for the concerned discipline at least one hour before the first
draw begins."

At least one hour before the first draw begins. So an hour before the draw for order of skaters in the groups for the short program I think. I'm actually not sure when they do the draw. Anyone?

I don't know why Liza says that she's tired of proving she deserves a world's spot. Yep, she got a gold medal and two bronze's, but the other competitors made mistakes. She wasn't like Medvedeva or Zagitova were in the past seasons. Actually, RCF was an opportunity for HER. RusFed did this for HER. She didn't land her 3A in SP and that was her mistake. If she could landed it, there wouldn't be any discussion about 3rd spot.

Yep, I just don't get why she complains about it. She needed to do a qualifying event and she finished 2nd for not landing her 3A in the SP. She got huge PCs. It's not like only others were overscored.

No no no no....NO! Did you watch the same competition as the rest of us? Read the same overall results from the year as all of us? Liza has a right to be upset. They didn't make Zhenya prove herself over and over and over again last year. There is no continuity and they make exceptions because they can and that's absolute bull.

Liza finished 2nd at CoR Finals not because of missing a 3a (which no one else competed) in the short because Zhenya herself fell in the FS. It is widely agreed that Liza got 2nd because Zhenya was absurdly over scored on the GOE of her elements on top of the normal over scoring of domestic competitions. Zhenya failed to even complete one 3x3 combo in the FS and failed also to complete cleanly the 3 combos allowed to max out her score and yet was STILL close in TES to Liza, who not only landed a clean 3a, a clean edge on her 3 lutz, but also a clean 2a x 3t x 2t seq in bonus. Her only mistake was doubling a toe at the back end of a 3lutz x 3toe combo.

And to even argue that CoR final was Liza's chance 'given to her by RUFed' like they were throwing her a bone and she blew it, is an actual insult to my and everyone else's, (who is breathing, rational, can read, and with vision) intelligence.[/QUOTE]

Yes, money (it's safer as well, as even mentioning politics bears some risk here).
