Early Predictions of the Top Five

I'm not into nationality and how cute the boys are
You're telling me Daisuke channeling Elvis is completely irrelevant?

Or Johnny shopping for his new house?

Or Brian doing pretty much anything?

SS - I believe there is a rule about posting oversized photos in the Forum. It tends to screw the thread up. Can you fix the size? If not, Mathman would be able to do it, I think.

Where was that pic of Johnny taken? And we wonder why he is not skating at his best. hmmm.

 Yes, please resize. That picture is 2816 by 2112 pixels, LOL. One-tenth of that would be about right, LOL. (I can't resize it, all I can do is disable the IMG.)

I was skating in Barrie, Ontario at the Mariposa school of skating and Oda has a new program and has been landing quad lutz in practice

A quad toe in competition would be more useful to him then a quad lutz in practice. In all seriousness if he does include a quad at Worlds his GOE could make him almost unbeatable if he skates clean. If he does it in the short too, then wow since he has shown he can easily score over 80 in the short even without one.

Women:
1. Mao Asada
2. Kimmie Meissner
3. Miki Ando
4. Yu Na Kim
5. Carolina Kostner

Men:
1. Stephane Lambiel
2. Daisuke Takahashi
3. Brian Joubert
4. Nobudari Oda
5. Evan Lysacek

If Oda lands a quad lutz he will win. His performances in general are great in the Short but his stamina is a problem in the LP. The quad lutz will bring down the house.

Men:
1. Brian Joubert
2. Stephane Lambiel
3. Jeffrey Buttle
4. Daisuke Takashi
5. Evan Lysacek

The thing to really watch for in this competition is the quad jumps and how the short program goes. A few of the men are debuting new short programs; others have problems. Quad jumps will determine the winner; but Lysacek/Takashi/Oda/Buttle won't have a chance without one. If Brian and Stephane have two this time around, with clean programs, the others won't have any chance for the top two spots. It feels like a two man fight at the moment :D

Okay

Okay, I don't watch ice dancing, but I feel quite confident in making the pick for top three. I am basing my prediction on the comments I read about dance pairs over the past few months.

1. Denkova & Staviski
2. Domina & Shabalin
3. Belbin & Agosto

The worlds is a big pressure cooker. Among top competitors, whoever have the most sound technique and make fewer mistake usually win. I do feel D/L's technique is not as solid & secure as my top three picks and they will likely make big mistake under pressure. The French pair is never the judges' favourite. A rare win at Euros really can not prove anything.

I still believe the conspiracy theory, but it's perhaps not enough for the Russian pair to win the world title this year. Actually the 2nd and 3rd places are a complete toss-up between Russian and American pairs.

I am not so sure about the American team of Belbin/Agosto to be honest. I dont think they are in favor with the judges that much themselves this year and if the judges have an opportunity to leave them off the podium they will I think. I do agree with you that Dubreuil/Lauzon could make a big mistake since their basic technique and nerve is shakier then the others, and that would take them off the podium probably. If they dont they will medal though since they are one of the judges pets though.

I really cant see the Russians losing to the Americans unless they have a big mistake. I also agree with you though that even politics might not be enough for them to win this year as maybe it would cause too much controversy for them to win it this exact year, so maybe just give them the silver and give the Bulgarians the gold to be safe. The Bulgarians they know are gone after this year, so they might just give them the gold so they wont whine about it, and leave it at that.

I agree on the French. Then again like I said I dont really think the judges want Belbin/Agosto on the podium this year. So if Dubreuil/Lauzon make a critical enough mistake, I think they might give the bronze to the French instead.

So here's my really spontaneous prediction of the top five in all disciplines

Bookie Odds for the Win

Men: Joubert ... 4-1

Oda ...5-1
Lambiel ,,, 4-1
Buttle, Lysacek, ... 6-1
Weir ,,, 8-1
vd Perren et al... Also competed.

At last ! A bit of bookie stuff.. Yay !

Sorry me, but I am as limited in my appreciation for this 'sport' as the 'real' world is with, let's say, ..tennis for an example ??

Ladies Singles ? - Waaaay too shrieking-sherapova noisy for anyone to really care about, or even watch. Likewise Ladies Doubles. Mens doubles. Mixed Doubles ? They're all pretty much consigned to the Car-Park courts at Wimbledon. No-one, besides their immediate family, really cares.

It's only the male skaters (as it is with Tennis) who really matter.

So, I'm offering -

Lambiel 3-1 - the latest Flamenco bit did it for me. Especially since the Zebra costume seems to have been dust-binned/burned , along with JW's pet duck Gertrude. Or was it a Mongoose ?

As well as that, Lambiel's 2006 Worlds (?) 'exhibition costume' with the jeans and big-assed, cleverly exposed red-undies has led to so much 'Ladies' money being dumped on the poor kid, (and me more to the point) the odds have been shortened from 6-1 to 3-1. Gotta love that Lady-Money :)

Joubert 3-1 - Seems fairly solid, as his nude pics seem to show. Personally, while I thought his calves were pretty well-developed, it's once again the 'Lady Money' - they were thinking about something else I guess, which has dropped his odds from 7-1 down to 3-1.

Takahashi-Oda 1-7 On

It's not that they're that good, but the money coming in is pretty scary ! And I'm not even going to mention things like 'home ice' let alone like really scary stuff like Yakuza! I'm a professional, okay ? Sorry, I can't take any bets on those guys unless you're seriously tatooed, and I don't have a choice.

Buttle is good at 6-1. The 'aww-shucks' toothey grin gets him laid a fair bit. Money-laid, that is. Can't jump, can't transition but he can grin and ponce about with the best of them.

Lysacek 20-1. Lots and lots of clueless United Statesian money here. I love it all ! There's nothing better in the world than separating United Statesians from their money. They were born for it :) The guy is hopeless but they don't see it.

Only problem might be that the US, via the USFSA, manages to bribe all the judges, advisors, technical specialists, assistants, TV networks and commentators. Hey, that's not that preposterous ! It's what they do :). They calll it 'democratizing the ice'.

Johnny Weir: 1-10 on. He's just too good for me to pay any money out on.
