Alina Zagitova

Of course. And Alina tries in earnest to remain competitive.
It never seemed to me Alina doubts herself, I’ve always thought of her as being level headed and realistic over her abilities and chances.
We’ll see how she fares in the coming World Championships.
Anything is possible for Alina and we all know she will fight for every single tenth of a mark in her skating routines.

I didn’t mind her and the staff responsible for Alina’s preparations to have remained quiet in the run up to the Championships and not to feed any speculations. It’s probably for the better this way given the hatred displayed on social media and in some tabloids.

I hope all of Alina, Yevgeniya and Sofia will be able to train in Japan undisturbed so they remain as free from stress as possible and can face their rounds of competition calm, composed and completely in control over themselves.

Maybe Alina dreams about the next Olympics together with her sister. Sabina is Beijing eligible, isn´t she? Theycould make the history:)

Amazing achievement would be even if Alina will make it to the Olympic team regardless if she will medal. Iconic like Caroline Kostner.

This really could be her dream. And, being honest, mine too :luv17:

I don't disagree with you, in fact I am well aware of many skaters who are going to be senior eligible next year, and especially in 2021-2022 season, and I am a huge fan of many of them. But, I choose to believe, because Alina deserves it, and as long as she decides to compete at the highest level, I will always believe in her ability to make all her wishes come true.
Not a chance, sorry lol But maybe team event ...
i dont think her big wish is another Olympics tbh , she only ever said she wanted it in context that in general she wanted to stay in this sport as long as she can, but answering direct question about Beijing 2022 right after OG didnt leave her much room. She also didnt say her DREAM was motivating her, idek where it came from... she wants to support her family first of all and she wants to be a coach (last big interview), but opening her own school (like Yulia L did) takes a lot of money, Alina is not from rich family and she always was aware of money so i think she understands she needs to earn as much as possible now.

Alina never mentioned that after the Olympics she was seriously thinking about quitting figure skating. She just said that started to write a book about her career but then changed her mind, because there is still a lot of interesting things ahead.

yeah she never wanted to give up right after OG

Nyet! Sabina will be 14 in Bejiing. Thus Alina will have to skate until the 2026 games! ;)

Beijing 2022, and we can expect another 15 y.o. Champion most likely. Alina and the other Awesome Khrustalniy Aces could still be in contention of course, but given OG champions statistics, this is unlikely.

Alina will be 19 Alena 18 Sasha and Anna 17 and Liu 16. I doubt a 15 year old will win Bejiing.

So, to clarify some of the things presented here with the help of some real facts, I will leave here parts of one of Alina's interview from February, 2018, after the Olympics :

RT: You already mentioned girls who do quadruple jumps. You are not scared of their competition, and my understanding is that you're not finishing your career any time soon.

AZ: I'm not. I want to skate as long as possible, for many seasons to come.

RT: And to skate in Beijing?

AZ: I want to. Yes.
RT: And that's all? So, you're thinking about figure skating and nothing else?

AZ: Right now, I just can't think of other things.

Thanks for that link, though the interview is already a year old and both Alina and circumstances have changed lots since.

Given what we knew then, and have learned since about Alina and how she prepares herself, she has cocooned herself again in quietude and concentration and will want to remain undisturbed until competition actually is over.

I do think Alina herself regards this coming World Championships as a big test, mostly for herself alone to prove she still has The Right Stuff, The Force Within, or however you'd like to call the mysterious energy and desire that makes sportspersons the unique kind of people they are.

I'm not worried for Alina, idec now if she takes a medal at Worlds or not. She had obvious physical problems atleast in 2 of her "failed" events apart from pain caused by intense training during her growing (she still has tapes), it wasnt just mental breakdown coz of tough competion some people wanted it to be, meaning she will overcome pain and other problematic temporary stuff sooner or later and will perform at her level again.

And? the way she said it matters...she said it like "sure if it happens why not" not like "I WANT TO! its my new goal"

Well, thats the complete opposite to what she really said.

Alina has nothing to prove, to anyone.

I wish her to have the WC she is working super hard for: with two clean skates of her programs. And I want to see a big smile. The rest.....not important.

I know she skates for a country, represented by its Federation, they invest in her, they get returns from her. She is part of their National Team and has earned her team spot fair and square, as well as her spot in all the important competitions this year.

This season Alina worked hard to improve on things she needed to, to secure the technical advancements she had achieved and had to deal with changes in the way things are scored. She went through the natural physical changes expected at her age and dealt with them as gracefully as possible. She did not "tone down" her programs to make them easier to execute and she in fact incorporated a second 3Lz combo into her FS which had to be difficult feat, requiring her to do different entries into it and different combo set ups.

She did all that coming off a very hard season, her Senior First, where she skated non-stop and achieved her Individual Olympic Gold, after which she went on her first "large scale" foreign Ice Show tour, essentially skating on her own (without coaches around) for a good chuck of time. I'm glad she did this last bit because I dearly enjoyed her in all these Ice Shows, cherry on top for me. I love to see Alina skate just for the fun of it. She is amazingly entertaining and that's why she was asked to come again (to SOI for now, and I expect her to get other assignments as well).

So she trained "in house" a little less during the off season in the lead up to a season that demanded a lot more because of her adaptation to her own personal changes as well as the changes in the rules.

Worth it!

And she did amazing with it, her season so far, getting medals as either Gold or Silver in all her International assignments is the second best run of the year among all ladies. I call that a success. Success is not demanding perfection all the time, if it was the pool of "successful people" in Figure Skating would be exactly zero. Maybe Sonja Henie (from 1927-1936). But really, today, the sport is completely different and this difference calls for alternating placements eventually. Being on the podium, in any capacity, is an amazing feat. Alina said so herself.

Alina is not a whiner she is a winner.

She wins everyday by working hard (as we see in all backstage videos of her trainings), by attending her assigned competitions, by being a great sportswoman who treats all competitors with respect and kindness and by pursuing the best skates that she can deliver in that moment.

Each competition is a fresh new chance to reach that goal of delivering all that you want to deliver. Each new season is a fresh chance to incorporate new elements as you perfect the ones you did before.

To Alina I wish many fresh starts and new chances to amaze!!!

I love watching her. She is the only one I watch for, she is the reason I love figure skating.
