Mikhail Kolyada

The thing is, having in his arsenal a flip and a loop would be a good thing for him, especially because he'd have other jumps to fall back on in he times of need like right now. I just hope he gets to have a decent off season this time and work on his technique, because it feels like this season started on the wrong foot and he never got back on track.
I am not sure I have faith in a flip with a correct edge, to be honest. Especially considering that it is always going to be closely scrutinised because he is known as a lipper.

I am happy beyond words! Most of all to see him happy and satisfied with his performance, finally a clean LP - do you guys realize that it is his first clean one since Boston?! What a way to end this difficult season. Bravo Mika!!!! :luv17::yahoo::hap10::clap:

He proved once again (as he needed) that despite all the vitriol so generously poured by certain persons of Russian FS (we won't name any names) he is indisputably Russia No1 even when the disaster brings him down, that he is fighter and survivor.
I am a bit disappointed with his scores, yes he might have been too focused and didn't let his guard go and that might have been reflected in PCS but the standing ovation from the audience told a different story I don;t know it feels like the judges deliberately were holding him down a bit.
The flip has bitten him in the end as I predicted (really the judges in Tallinn didn't do him any favours by not calling the edge there) the content could have been better and that stepout on second 4T was costly but God everything could not go totally flawless. It was gorgeous and I am looking forward to watching it again and again on my sky box in addtion to his SP at Euro. Thank you Mika!!!!!

I'm on my second rewatch, and I have to say I agree :/ but given I was expecting the worst--not even a top 10 finish--I'm still so elated.

Sad to see he wasn't invited to the gala, especially since he seems to love that exhibition number :sad21: I guess people were tired of chaplin programs  unless the boots are really giving him trouble, I don't see why he wouldn't do WTT

I agree with Tutto that the audience’s standing ovation told a different story than Misha’s actual PCS. It was inevitable, though, that the judges would leave room in their marks with the firepowers in the final group yet to skate. Still, the fact that he received the third highest PCS, behind only Nathan and Yuzuru, really says a lot about the quality of his skating, and he can be very proud of that.

Edited: Sorry vorravorra, quoted you by accident!

I wish he didn't have to be brought down first to come back like that. It's not very practicable when you need to be buried first to be able to rise high. I'd bet you anything he would not have skated a near-clean free if he had got his 100 in the short.

They decided there were too many Russians in the Gala already and other countries should be given a chance most likely.

Oh that makes sense, because looking at the list the invitations weren’t strictly by placement. Too bad though, I think that Misha would have enjoyed performing his Chaplin ex for the Japanese audience and that they would have loved it.

Sadly I have to agree. He has yet to find that balance inside to be able to skate well in different scenarios. So far only two seem to work 1) happened to be his day - e.g SP in Milan - ease, emotions, technical all is there
2) the rock bottom'd been hit, need to dig himself out of the hole

I know. That's why Tarasova's comments--that at the next competition he will have a better mindset--worry me. Now that he's placed the highest of the Russian men yet again the lofty expectations have returned. They never learn their lesson.

Well, he always ends up being the highest Russian man at Worlds because he generally does OK at Worlds, so it can't really be helped him going into the next season as the top man. And his next competition is probably the WTT where I hope he can relax a bit.

Well it indeed was one difficult season for both Misha and Misha fans but he did it!
(Almost) clean Carmen!
Just so relieved that season is (almost if there is WTT) over!

Hopefully next season is much better for Misha! Hope he gets good refreshment (be it rest/training/or new choreo) over Spring and Summer and gear up for the next season!

Right, but there’s a difference between making him the top man (which he rightfully is) and expecting him to suddenly turn into a great competitor. That expectation is what frustrates me. But judging by his comments to the press today Misha can’t be bothered to care about what TAT, Yagudin, et al. think of him anyway.

Happy that Misha was able to produce a performance like that after the season he had. :luv17: A shame he won't be in the exhibition, but I hope he takes this opportunity to relax and explore Japan.

Maybe at WTT Misha can finally not just skate a good Carmen but actually enjoy it? Not just survive it. At least he had fun with Elvis once, according to him.

Of course it's once again Misha's fault that Russian men lost three spots. Not either of those who finished below him. When Russia gained three spots, otoh, it was all up to Aliev who finished below Misha.

So wonderful to see a cleanish Carmen. Misha's technique is so pure and beautiful, and I mean on everything from spins, to footwork, to jumps  Praying that he has better luck next season because I want to see him on podiums
