Alina Zagitova

Alina said she isn't going to retire! she feels less pressure after Worlds and learned how to deal with problems and negative thoughts.
Amazing person and true champion! :luv17:

There is a question of Alina's possible quads for the upcoming season(s). While it would not be definitely easy for her, we all know her determination. She is smart and understands that from a long perspective she would have little chance without quad/3A. Her 80-82 TES for free program is practically maximum tech score that is achievable with a "standard" program and she can't gain much more in PCS either, so the only way is to rise points is having at least a quad/3A in her portfolio.

I know that Lilbet is different body type but Alina's jumps overally are in no way weaker, lower etc., so if Lilbet was able to land first quad in training in some two weeks I think alina is capable of it as well. The ending season was about stabilizing Alina on top, adjusting her jumping technique to her new body etc., so now there can be time for those new things. I am carefully optimistic about it.

I know it's definitelly not easy, but her 3 Flip is huuuuge now, and also her loop is fantastic, she jump the one from Lutz combo in VERY difficult possition, and she rotated it fully and jump high. So if she is not worried much, because fear is probably the main factor, I believe she can do it. :) I think she haven't try it yet because it's risky and the main goal was Words medal, so it wasn't worth it. Lilbet was in very different position. I bet it will be one of the first things she will try as she'll come back to Chrystal.

In the Last Japanese interview she said if she is gonna do it, it is gonna be flip. Also in last posted Russian one she said she doesn’t like to talk about anything beforehand, she has to do it first. Imo she is trying to keep expectations low and lower stressing about it for herself but she is 100% gonna try doing it more.

It's very smart from her! :) I'm sure she is determined to do it, she knows it will be necesarry if she wants to stay on top, but she talk about it always with humility. She said that she've already jump flip and loop in harmess, but never try it on her own. If they would not ask her, she wouldn't speak about it loudly at all. It's very wise. There is always a big pressure on her, she is a big deal, and it look like she is learing more and more how to walk in it and live on spotlights but still remains herself! :)

About this interview:
Alina shows her personality once again. She speaks openly about what was hard, about struggles, about her own mistakes. Nobody is flawless but she is the kind of a human who is aware of it, like when she speaks about sometimes doing the exact opposite than being told. It is not uncommon amont teenagers but you wouldn't find many teenagers who would understand that and who would be able to supress it. She also spoke so nicely about her team again, they were able to deal with her due to right attitude, finding the right words and keeping her on the solid ground.

And all this paid off 100 times with her victory.

That's such a nice interview! I read it with translater, but surprisingly to czech language it isn't that bad. :D I love one more sentence which wasn't there yet - the intervievew is asking her and goes like "I hear that in Minsk at the hotel, fire alarm suddenly started and your mum started to collect documents and you just jelled at her "stop, just grab the skates and run" She really love figure skating more than anything!

“As for spot on national team. I still think RusFed won't dare to do her dirty like they did Liza. ”
Tbh it’s her own fault, she didn’t fight for her place as did Alina...
I posted long reply about that whole situation before but it got deleted so im not gonna bring up anything of that kind again, but you are wrong about rusfed, Alina couldn’t skate clean without burn on her leg entire season, no way her team didn’t know Alina was gonna fail with that kind of basically open wound, faces of her coaches said it all, just think how Eteri let her other student off JWC, I’m 100% sure she tried with Alina ...

Makes sense. If there’s any jump she’s got a chance at, it would be her flip since it is the easiest for her. Loops are notoriously hard as a quad—very few men even try it.

Read Alina's latest interview and just wanted to drop by and say how happy I am that her struggle this season paid off. She's such a pure girl while still being a fighter at heart, and she had to overcome a lot, herself included, to get that gold medal.

No one knows what would happened if she WD. If she didn't skate, then at ECH team would be Stanislava, Sofia and Zhenya (4., 6., 7. (Alina was 5th). It's highly possible that Zhenya would medaled no matter if she fall or not or whatever, medals wasn't that high and she has highest qualities (which btw she proved once again at Words and I'm happy for her no matter how strange the nominations was - but it not belong there, so move on). In the end Alina medaled with fall as well. So Sofia and Zhenya would have spots for Words. Stanislava's spot was in competition because she did not well at Euros and it was not for the first time as she didn't grab an opportunity given to her. No one could expect that will happened. She had a good first half of the season. When you count it will stay the same way, then there will be competition between Stanislava, Liza and Alina for the last spot. Liza did pretty well. Alina did better at Words but no one can predict. So in the end, it was realy cruel but since RusFed refuse to give her free spot for the team, it was probably good decision of the teamtutberidze (And I believe Alina herself wanted to do it, as they wanted to withdraw her from GPF but she wanted to skate, she is not human guys). Those things are very tough and sad but it happenes, especially in those federation where is many high quality athletes and only a few can go. (I'm not saying it's good!)

Veering into :otopic: so apologies for that, but why is 4th such a bad result? I'm aware of Stanislava's varied results, but sometimes I feel like a skater catches a buzzword and is then forever associated with it. For Alina it used to be "backloaded", and I think we all got plenty tired of that. Let's not do the same to Stanislava?

Very good points. I'm not a fan of buzzwords either.

Alina has that syndrome in her left knee. Is it just her left knee or does she have it in a right knee as well? I sure hope her little sister does not have these problems with her knees with sometimes they are inherited. maybe her parents won't allow Sabina to skate as much as Alina did by 11 years old..

That was the most amazing interview! She is such a beautiful soul. I teared up reading it.

A huge shout-out to Alina's 'anti-fans'! :dev2: Motivating her all the way to winning the World Championship in 2019! Nice work! :points: Apparently she couldn't have done it without you! Take a bow!

But don't get too complacent. It's a long road to Beijing 2022. I'm sure we can count on you til then. :cool14:

That interview was amazing, and like always Alina's intelligence and maturity is impressive! I loved the part where she used negative comments to motivate her, and everything she said about Masaru.

As it is in reaction to my post, I'm gonna answer even if it's more about Stanislava than Alina. I definitelly don't think 4th place is bad. Not at all. To be honest, I even like her as a skater, she is elegant. I personally prefer her even over Liza, I really like her way of skating. But 190 points is not an outstanding score for Russian girl. In Russia there is very tough competition, a lot of girls are ready to collect more than 200. Alina's silver and under 200 score were also taken as a disaster, but it's still fantastic result, it's less than was expected, but they are not robots. For me, It was almost expected that Alina will have some struggles, even while I hope she will not. It's hard to deal with Olympic glory itself, and now we know there were much more. (And I'm so happy she overcome everything in the end!) There is a reason why she become first Word champion after winning Olympics in 34 years. I don't mean it to be rude toward Stanislava or sth. And those thing like "it's not the first time she wasted her chance" is exactly what I hear more than once. This world is really cruel. There were girls at the bench who are more accomplished and darlings of federation and fans more than she is, so she needed to be really outstanding and she didn't.

To your second part: Yes I also don't like while skaters are "putting into boxes" because of something and giving them buzzwords. Alina is not a backloader, she prove enough that this rule not affect her. She only use rules in her favor, everybody is trying to do that. As well as Zhenya isn't cheater or traitor and Stanislava isn't the one who always crack under pressure.

You know what? I would love to see some special rule for those cases while one state has a huge number of amazing skaters. For example - number qote per country, and than add skaters in top 10 actual season score. Or also make a top score list and give a free spots from states who didn't have a skater who can be send (like Czech republic has a 2 spots in men competition but we have so far only 1 skater who meets a criteria) to skater who is highest on the list and is not allow to particiate because his country don't have a spot for her/him already.

I just saw the brutal pictures of Alinas ankle and foot with the burns and blisters on them at Russian Nationals and I want to cry. She is an absolute warrior as tough as can be even though she looks so sweet and delicate. But seeing these pictures makes me wonder what the hell is going on where are the Russian federation her coaches and Alina's parents letting her skate with such an obvious injury. No need for her to skate with that damage to her foot. It had to be so painful and that she bombed the free skate at Nationals and then she bomb the free skate at Europeans they overcame both of those disasters and very impressively won the gold medal at the world championships. Alina is absolutely amazing.

A bit off topic but any program ideas for Alina? Personally I wish she’d get better programs for the next season because I think it’s a but if a downgrade compared to Black Swan/Moonlight (freaking amazing!!) and Don Quixote.

I was thinking something contemporary for her short like what Daniil did to Black Swan and Scheherazade for her free. Ideas?
