Nathan Chen

I made the mistake of listening to them once. Recall them saying stuff like, ‘I like Nathan, but ...’ um no, it’s pretty obvious you don’t like Nathan - so no need to preface it with that.

I seem to remember their tone as really condescending. Even worse that they pretend they’re neutral.

They are teenager girls and they're Hanyu fans, yeah. I don't listen to any podcasts and am saving my mental health🤣

Everyone, thanks for all the updates. I rarely post, but do appreciate all the latest Nathan news from y’all. I was so thrilled by Nathan’s performances at Worlds, and also was pleased initially with what seemed like positive responses from people on social media - much more so than in prior years. However, that didn’t last long. The negativity in the past couple of days in that other thread, podcasts, YouTube videos (e.g., the two Canadian guys), etc. has increased dramatically. No matter how much Nathan improves, it seems like it’s never enough. I probably should stop reading that stuff for my own santity.

Nathan’s schedule has been insane, and he’s looked exhausted since the end of the Gala (though cutely so). I think skipping WTT might be a good idea, but Nathan listens to his own drummer. We’ll see what happens.

Today broadcast Nathan part. Thanks for aboutNathan always❤️

Thanks, Hollymolly.

Could hear scream for Nathan from the audience.

And before I forgot, here is an article several days ago about team Japan. There is a paragraph about Nathan, and the long Pooh wait

Chen a formidable foe

One could not help but be impressed by Chen’s performance in Saitama. The 19-year-old student at Yale University skated like a real veteran in both the short program and free skate on the way to a record total score of 323.42 points.

Chen became the first American in 35 years to defend the world title. The last to do it was Scott Hamilton in 1983-84.

The Salt Lake City native’s ability to balance the books and skating is a throwback to the days of two-time Olympic champion Dick Button, who did the same while earning an undergraduate degree at Harvard back in the 1950s.

I watched Chen closely after Hanyu’s free skate and the long delay that followed while the ice was swept clear of all the Winnie the Poohs. I think a lot of skaters would have been unnerved by the holdup and inability to use all of the ice.

Chen calmly skated back and forth on the half of the rink that was not flooded with the plush toys. He struck me as a pretty cool customer.

Chen’s accomplishment is significant. That he did it in Japan makes it even more so. Many might have been intimidated by skating against a superstar like Hanyu in his home country, but Chen said he was energized by the huge crowd at Saitama Super Arena.

“To compete for a sold-out crowd is so, so cool and so awesome for the sport,” Chen stated after the free skate on Saturday night. “I was fully expecting Yuzu to bring the house down, just bring everyone to their feet. Just have this crazy atmosphere and it was exactly that. Fortunately, this time all the Pooh bears were on one side of the rink so I was able to skate around and get warmed up.”

Chen saluted the Japanese fans at the worlds for their deep appreciation for skating.

“It’s amazing to see how much the audience cares for us and how much they truly love skating,” Chen noted. “The ice being covered in Pooh bears is really representative of all the passion that they have for the sport. That really touches you as well.”

Those people aren't teens unfortunately, but the other part is right. :ohwell:

Nathan loves him some Pooh. And I love his attitude about about the whole thing. It is really positive for the sport for people to be so passionate.

As much as I love seeing Nathan as much as possible, I also think he should withdraw from WTT. It must be exhausting to have a schedule like he has.

Thank you, everyone, for the thoughtful posts, the Nathan news, links and videos. Especially grateful to aboutNathan for the video archive, not to mention super fast uploads of new broadcasts!

re: Osaka SOI broadcast. Nathan looks exhausted to me. From what I understand of the tweets, jumps and presentation were spot on for Caravan on the first day of Osaka SOI.

The hilarious thing is even though Worlds, the biggest competition of the season, has already happened, just looking at Nathan's upcoming schedule is enough to stress me out. I so wish he could give himself a break.

Please, Nathan, your school work will suffer, your health will suffer. Shows won't pay if you can't skate because you're sick or injured. You only have a few weekends left to spend with your Yale friends. They may all graduate before you return for your sophomore year. Just stay healthy and look after that GPA so you can keep all your options open.

[i know Nathan will never read this, but it had to come out... lol]

Thanks as always to aboutNathan for sharing:luv17:

I know he likes simple outfits ... but maybe he could use some new shirts. This one looks kinda worn-out/semi-transparent (maybe I shouldn’t be complaining about this lol) and the navy one now looks a bit small and short.

Does Macy's not sell the black Nemesis shirt in a larger size and in white? It's the only shirt that didn't eat up his neck in recent memory.

Or SOI could lend him the black shirt worn in group numbers. I think some here would appreciate how form-fitting it is. I of course am too old to notice such things.

Hi skfan! I’ve missed you here - your concern for Nathan, your Yale expertise, our discussions about Nathan’s shirts bunching around his shoulders and his sweat marks (lol), wishing for another classical program:)

I think he will be going back to Yale for at least another semester. But it seems that Raf wants a full two years with him to prepare for 2022.

I have to mute some twitter accounts for my own sanity’s sake. Some of the Yuzu fans are really crazy in claiming him being robbed of gold medal. What is even more ridiculously, which oatmella mentioned before, but I never encountered until now is their own obsession of any Yale related Nathan news. Come on, I think Nathan is as low key as possible. He seldom wear any Yale related outfit in front of TV camera.

I would strongly suggest them to flood ISU with their “robbing” messages if they really feel so strong about it. Just stop leaving stupid messages in Nathan’s IG post or Jackie’s twitter post.

Yeah, the Yale comments are ridiculous. They certainly seem more obsessed with Nathan attending Yale than NBC or any media. Honestly it’s pretty easy to avoid but of course they’re hate-searching for it.

Nathan should wear as much Yale gear as he likes:)

Nice to see you back, skfan! Don’t be too stressed out, since we need support each other in order to support this crazy boy

Thanks, guys, but you guys are doing fine without me.

As for my contributions, such as they are, I tried but it seems i couldn't go even an hour without a costume comment, once i've succumbed to the urge to post. Notice i've said nothing about posture (in the last two posts). lol.

But seriously when I saw Nationals videos I was stunned at the improvement in his skating skills, his flow, the softness of his knees. I was as happy about that as I was about the jumps and performance aspects.
