It seems Masaru abruptly announced her retirement from pairs skating at the second show. At the finale she announced she will continue to pursue her true passion which is ice licking with +5 GOE rolling around thrown in. She is awaiting news from the IOC that this will be added as a Winter Olympic Sport in Beijing. For now she not announced whether she will compete for Japan or Russia.

Congratulations to Alina on 600K IG followers. Not bad for someone with 71 total posts. Maybe this will inspire her to post more. I doubt it, but one can dream....

Also, the Russian YouTube video of Alina at the World Cup 2019 now has over 1 million views! In just a month. (Thanks FSO for bringing this to my attention.) Posting the link for those for whom it is not geoblocked - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y6pYQSvUJE

And the video of Alina's segment on the Urgant show made it to 731K+ views in a little over a week.

Is Alina in her final year (10th grade) of school right now? Does she need to sit graduation exams?

Given her full training schedule there probably remained little time for formal classroom education, but I've heard Alina talking in her documentaries about having private tutoring and such. e-Learing perhaps?

No, in Russia you need to finish 11 grades to graduate.

That was before she started to study at the Sambo 70 school.

[About 3A. Q: I heard that Alina will also have to learn 3A?
A: No, I haven't heard about it (laughs). There is nothing mandatory - it's a difficult jump, someone can go, someone does not. If a person does not have enough ability, of course we will not require 3A. But yes, now we are trying to move in this direction. While we do it mostly with a "fishing rod"[I don't know what they call it in English so I translated it directly]. Anya and Sasha do it every day. Alena just came out recently after the injury and she don't learn 3A.]

I am trying to decide if this comment means Alina is starting to train a 3A. Thoughts?

No. No 3A for Alina, Daniil was misunderstood in that other intereview (about"everyone" learning 3A) woman was reffering to, so he was confused as to why she would think about Alina doing 3A, he even said they dont ask EVERYONE to do it, coz some people are unable to, he clearly meant only Lisa (who's already landed it years prior), TSK girls and some other juniors starting their trainings, because they are in that age when you mentally can learn new jumps easier. Many russian Alina fans misunderstood also.

But Alina is not able to do a 3A now, forget it, its useless to her anyway, it's dangerous, risky and doesnt cost enough. She has good PCS and 3lz-3lo to keep her close to people with 3A in the SP. She needs just one quad with clean FS to win. She told japanese interviewer IF she learns a new jump its gonna be a Flip. She said same thing somewhere else before, but never mentioned she wanted to do anything with 3A.
Flip is also her most stable or can i say strongest jump, if you think about it: it's a difficult one for many skaters, including TSK girls, they get (!) from tech panel often, but Alina - NEVER did even in juniors, it means her technique is good. When UR, she managed to do flip without falling unlike Lz, both 3F and 3F combo are put in second part in both FS and SP, meaning she is confident it it even when she is tired, and it's the most beautifull jump of hers imo, she gets a great speed and jump is high in SP. I believe plan is to not lose her other jumps but she will be learning 4f this season carefully to show it in the next one. But knowing Alina...

To get on a podium she can skate clean and idk change her 322 combo to 3F+1Eu+3S, change 3s to 3lo, change 2A to 3S, and she needs Daniil to get her kind of music everybodys else using to pretend they have grace and good SS, you know slow make you cry music from some movie. It got pretty obvious this season what judges like, check her PCS and goe of Stsq in SP vs FS...Alina is a great skater with high pcs potential, Daniil, dont let Alina down, please)

Just wanted to add that Alina mentioned in an interview before that she's been training the 4F AND the 4Lo with harness.

Whether she eventually adds them to her competitive repertoire we'll have to see, but even if she doesn't her tech at the moment is still very much competitive with the rest of the field. As we've seen, quads and 3A are difficult to be consistent with; as long as she skates clean she will always have as good a chance as anyone else in winning competitions

I agree with this part so much hahah. If a performance brings tears to your eyes, then the judges are like “WOW THE PCS!”
