2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

In my opinion only, I find the ladies competition to be more visually appealing and entertaining. I only remember Nathan's FS from Nationals, and besides Jason Brown and Vincent Zhou I couldn't name any other guy who skated. In contrast, I remember the programs of all the ladies in the final group. Half of them were new names to me, but I remember them.

It's not the only jump in the series that looks underrotated, which is more concerning.

Good for her for trying to learn it. Impressive that she's doing it out of the harness/fishing rod. Alysa Liu is starting an 'arms' race in US ladies!

Apparently Sarah was attempting the triple axel last summer in competition so, in this particular case, Alysa probably wasn't the motivator. Mirai, maybe.

Sarah attempted the 3A during the summer competitions, but rarely landed any. Plus based on protocols from this year and prior, she has a history of under-rotations. It seems like a lot of the Novice and Junior girls are attempting the harder elements which is nice to see.

On a slightly disconnected note, next year’s Junior Nationals will be a bloodbath. We have Calista, Isabeau, Isabelle, Mia, Lindsay, Kate, and a few others who could all be the Junior Champion should things go squeaky clean. I know Isebelle and Calista are learning the 4T, Isabeau already has a 3S-3T and 3Lo-3T and is working on a consistent 3Lz, Mia is working on a 3Lz-3Lo, Lindsay is attempting the 3Lz-3Lo, and Kate is in the process of getting a 3A and consistent 3Lz-3Lo.

From my untrained eyes, she probably needs more height for her jumps in general. She definitely rotate fast and tight, without much speed going into jumps.

Calista, Isabelle, Lindsay, and Kate are all Junior Grand Prix eligible this 2019-2020 season. Isabeau is 12 and Mia is 11, but both are competing as Juniors this season. As for the NQS, I am unsure since the list of participants, if I recall, is not out yet.

Mia is 11 this year so not eligible. I think Lindsay is 13 or 14 this year so she could be?

Woops, you are correct. Lindsay is 13 and will turn 14 come December 5th.

I don't think there will be any comprehensive list published of all participants in the NQS.

Individual NQS competitions may publish their entry lists online, or just qualifying groups for those events large enough to need multiple groups, after their entry deadlines have passed and as the competition dates approach.

Starr Andrews is skating to You Lost Me by Christina Aguilera for her sp. The bad news is that she’s still working with her same choreographer and hasn’t switched coaches or anything. I’m hoping she can up her technical content nevertheless.

I have always liked Delmore's choreography. One of the things I like about Starr's skating is that it does not look the same as everyone else. (I didn't need to see Summertime for the thousandth time last year, but a plethora of choreographers are guilty of that).

Same. I like what she does with her choreography. I'm more focused on her getting her jumps consistent. I hope that now that the stress of going to the GP for the first time is over she can get a handle on her nerves and focus on improving her jumps and skating skills.

I enjoyed seeing Sarah Jung at Philadelphia Summer Championships last year.
For those attending this year, I think it would be worth keeping an eye out for Sarah (with or without 3A). Not saying that she definitely will be there -- only my guess.

At Colonial Open, Indi Cha won Junior Ladies SP and FS.

Returning from injury that forced her to miss most of the 2018-19 season, Ellen Slavicek (sixth in Advanced Novice at 2018 Asian Open Trophy, behind Indi in fifth) competed at California Championships. Ellen's private Instagram showed herself with fellow CC medalists. (Ellen with the gold, I think? … maybe just for one segment?)

Brynne McIsaac won Senior Ladies at California Championships.​

Can’t help but feel a little saddened by the news. Calista is one of the most promising upcoming juniors and the possibility of her leaving Ladies singles to solely focus on pairs in a few seasons is a little aching. We’ll see how she performs on the JGP this upcoming season as a singles skater and maybe pairs?

yeah she posted about her new programs not a month ago... I mean maybe she'll do both? Thats kind of cool, although I hope it doesn't affect her performance in singles.

This partnership must be a recent development. She did get new singles programs, short and long. She also was working on quad toes, and competed advanced novice ladies internationally. Huh. She could have made it in ladies imo... so I didn’t expect this.

Depending on what her goals are in the sport, doing pairs could make a lot of sense. If she wants to get on an Olympic team (and earn an almost-guaranteed team medal), a woman in the US has a lot better chance of doing so as a pairs skater.
