Alina Zagitova

Throwing it back to the composer from Moonlight showing some love for Alina -

Just to make the correction before someone else does,
Barry Jenkins was the screenwriter/director of Moonlight.

But since he obviously had a big part in what music was to be used for his film,
I'd say an endorsement from him carries a lot of weight.

And he gave a glowing endorsement indeed!
His description almost sounded like something Dick Button would say!

In a way it remeinds me of the tweet from the "Hancock Institute of Jazz" acknowledging Alina for skating to Jazzmeia Horn's version of Afro Blue.

:love::love:

And that Black Swan SS...in my humble opinion, one of the best that was ever performed  Both in terms of choreo, and interpretation

The change to this music was my favorite part of the program.
It really built up the suspense for her jumping passes to come.
Made the program really unique.

I guess music cuts can sometimes be a good thing. ;)

omg I didn't know about this, wow I think praise from the screenwriter of the film confirms that she is able to invoke the correct emotions for that piece of music :). Not that we didn't already know that. Best sp ever! I can't praise her Black Swan enough. Might be my favorite program from anyone ever.

Holy cow! Barry Jenkings himself tweeted about Alina and Black Swan back then! How come I never saw this before! :eeking:

He sounded really happy with Alina's performance and even used the goat emoji :luv17: I wonder if he ever got that sweatshirt...

I was thinking a lot about Alina’s new programs these days and decided to share my thoughts with you. Dani G said that he was tired of reading complaints about the warhorses, so he won’t use them for her this season. But! I believe that he and Eteri years ago perfectly identified Alina’s uniqueness and major advantage of being the ballerina on the ice. Ballet on the ice is not at all easy or straightforward. No one ever has come so close and done it so brilliantly as Alina and Dani G. She has the poise, the beauty and the movements of a ballerina (reminds me of Plisetskaya), while Dani G’s upbringing is full of ballet choreo due to his mom. I think they are uniquely positioned to make it attractive for young people as well, to add a touch of modernity to the classics (like adding film music to Swan Lake, which I initially didn’t even notice).

Overall, I think they shouldn’t pay any attention to what people are saying on the Internet. Whatever they do, there will be complaints and hate. Regarding this team, people are looking under a microscope to find something wrong and that isn’t going to stop, so I wish they don’t change their strategy just to please Internet whiners.

I can’t remember any skater doing ballet on ice so brilliantly and beatifully, so I imagine them doing all the classics, the entire repertoire of Bolshoi that suits Alina. They are the trendsetters, so they shouldn’t care what followers think. Leave the modern dance to the others and focus on the Alina’s exquisite grace in ballet. Of course, she could do modern dance and basically everything, but her huge advantage and wow factor is definitely ballet, in my opinion.

Also, I hope they stay away from too much sexiness, seductiveness and sensuality. I really hope they keep her innocence and lady-like poise. She can experiment for the galas as much as she wants to, but they should keep the competition programs classy. Overall they can leave modern dances and sexiness to skaters who don’t have much else to differentiate themselves. Sorry I have been too wordy and writing from a phone, but I would really love to hear your thoughts.

What a beautiful post, Autumn Leaves, and I totally get where it's coming from! I quoted this part because these were exactly my thoughts when I found out about the "Moonlight" music. It's clear that Daniil had prepared this program in his head for a lot of time, and waited for the right skater, how he said in his interview. Just speaking about this music addition, it was done so well and integrated so good in the entire program!

Seeing Alina doing ballet on the ice for the entire day would be my definition for a great day! This is clearly her advantage, she skates like she is born for it, her elegance and her entire attitude are built in a balletic way. And the fact that her team is adding so many movements inspired from the real, classical ballet pieces, shows that they clearly like this route for her, because it highlights all her advantages.

For the next season, I don't think they will go this way, I have a feeling that now, when Alina won everything, it's not an Olympic season and the pressure is a little bit off her shoulders, they will try to experiment a little. Not so far away from her strenghts, but enough to be considered a different route. I think that Alina is a very versatile athlete, and many of her Ice Show performances show us just how little we know about her potential yet. She could skate on contemporary ballet music, or totally lyrical pieces, or empowering, powerful songs, totally out of her comfort zone, and still shine and further develop her artistical side. And we will be charmed, and enchanted, by everything she will offer on the ice.

However, I have a feeling that in the next Olympic season this tide will turn and we'll go back to the origins, with a masterpiece, breathtaking balletic FP, and with an even better Alina, better than everything we've seen. This is my view on this subject, but only time will tell how Alina and her team will decide to approach it.

Sensational news!!!

In the new season Alina is going to switch to ice dancing, pairing with her ET team-mate, Moris Kvitelashvili. Here's a glimpse at their new short (very, very short) programme; watch and admire the synchronicity and poise:

Oh, and the short programme will be called "Pengwings" (copyright: Benedict Cumberbatch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtAKhY8lf0g)

And if the ice dancing doesn't work out, Alina has a back up plan - she'll go into football: https://www.instagram.com/p/ByM-B2GIXDv/

Ice dancing I already seen, but football! :laugh2:
Кто там у нее за тренера? :yahoo:

Just posting this here! Saw some updates about today's show from Japanese fans on twitter:
- Apparently the arena today was really hot, especially in the second half but the skaters were all mad sweating and it was hard on them. A lot of skaters looked tired in general.
- Alina landed all her jumps in Carmen, 3Lz (rippon), 3F (rippon), and 3Lz (rippon) but i think she either turned out or was short on the last one, but didn't fall.
- Whenever Alina pushes the chair in Carmen, she's directing it to a staff who is there to catch at the side
- Alina participated in the finale jump fest today! She landed a 3Lz (rippon) then she did a 3Lz 3T/3Lo, not sure which since I see people saying both.
- Alina was really cute, really smiley and polite to fans, but she was really serious while jumping
- There's also a few people who talked about how both Alina and Hanyu were the only ones who seemed really obsessed about their jumps. Only both of them really made sure to check the line of their jumps on the ice every time they jumped.

Can't wait to see!
Fighting the chair
It is a pity that it happened with the climate control on the rink

Russian skaters at the show! Including the Emperor himself Plushenko.

Saw a few accounts about how Plushenko (together with Nobunari Oda – he did Japan Open with Alina last time and Alina mentioned him as one of the Japanese skaters she gets along with previously) came out to watch Alina performing with a 'paternal smile' (idk how to describe it). Glad to see the Emperor with our one and only Ice Queen!

I would pay money to be Alinka’s chair catcher 😂😂
