2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Wagner tweeted megatives about Alinas backloaded program that won olympic gold and Alina replied that she couldnt do it.

I would add that Ashley was probably still disenchanted that she didn't make it to the olympics at that time. Later she spoke very positively about Alina.

This is very off-topic but for a very long time I thought that the posters "madison" and "moriel" were the same person just because I wasn't paying enough attention to the exact nickname. It becomes even funnier to mix them because the one is more on Alina's side and the other one on Evgenia's and you get the impression of some very bipolar personality

Nah, she didn‘t just say, ”Ashley probably can‘t do it.“ It was more clever, diplomatic and subtle than that. I don‘t remember the exact quote, so I googled it:

Wagner’s outbursts “only spurred me on to be stronger and made me want to prove that this is not true,” Zagitova said, adding that she was ‘above this.’ “But there's no proving anything to such people,” the 15-year-old Olympic champion said. “She could try skating such a program at the Olympics and I'll be happy to watch her do it and I won't give the same reaction.”

Asked if she would agree that Wagner – who missed the Olympics – was not really in a position to criticize, Zagitova said: “I think everyone can express their opinion. But perhaps not so rudely.”

I thought it was really impressive, especially considering that she was in her first senior season and at her first Olympics. Some girls might have more innate talent handling public speaking and press conferences and all that while others need to practice more. And if someone like Nastya isn‘t advised and warned about the possibility of interviewers asking specific, dangerous questions, then we get an interview like hers as a result.

Thank you for the searching that. You really could be a figure skating journalist.

Amazing quote from a 15 year-old Alina with such depth to it as well. Very well thought out. It may have been the only time I've ever read words from Alina with an angry tone. If what Nastya said about Alina being lucky when she was born gets back to her I don't think she will be upset by that. Alina has had tougher things to deal with like not being fully accepted by the legends of Russian figure skating like she should have been.

I'm expecting a very good season from Alina. Everything is in place for her to be in top form.

Expected, since she missed a bit of her last season due to injury. Now waiting to hear about Anna's and Sasha's programs. Hope they don't keep old ones, though they were good.
I'm okay with this because this will give her a chance to perfect her SP and get her off to great starts in competitions. If she didn't have that stress fracture in her leg at the end of last season she would probably have a new SP. But it is what it is and Alena has a chance to make her short very special and perfect it inside out. Hoping she has a great debut season. The anticipation is off the charts for 3A and their debuts.

I don‘t remember exactly but judging from the protocols, she skated reasonably well at Russian Nationals 2017. I‘m not sure whether that’s the case for Gubanova because I honestly don’t remember her skates from then but there was quite some strange judging at these Nationals too... (like, I still think Aliona should have been 2nd) Maybe this affected Nastya too and she got lower GOE/PCS/scores, than she felt she should have. I agree, though, that she probably wouldn‘t have been on the Olympic team anyway but who knows. The thing I found rather ironic was that she said only skaters who have been in seniors for quite some time should skate at the Olympics and then went on to add that she would absolutely have done well had she been age eligible. If this is really what she said and I didn‘t misunderstand it, it doesn‘t really make sense at all.
Nastya G was outstanding at Rusnats 2017. I think she was top five and should have been higher.

As for Nastya T it's what I read yesterday was accurate the money her family has spent on her career is humongous. The one that is a lot of pressure on this girl. Living up to her vast potential is one thing but you know she knows her family has spent a fortune on her career. I sure hope she can settle down and have a good season and stay with a coach for a couple years at least. If you look at all the top Russian girls they have been with their coaches for years other than Evgenia. Consistency is so important consistency in training consistency in performance. But these Anastasias do not have it. The question is can they get it? If they can they can still have excellent careers that matter and then perform and professional shows after their competitive careers are over.

Awww that's a cute story how you mix them up like two peas in a pod. ;)

Which one is more on Evgenia side? I'll give you a hint it's not Moriel.

Kanysheva said on instagram the music is for her new SP. That‘s unexpected. What do you think she will have as a FS then?

Im sort of busy with life to figure it out myself, but:
DO we have english translations for Gubanova's interview?

If no, will translate.

I don‘t get why she‘s even allowed to do any interviews at all? And why so many skaters still do interviews with her or follow her on social media. Seriously, who is she even? I never heard her name before until she was brought up here again and again and yet she somehow gets to interview all these people and skaters? Whoever or whatever is she? What made her become involved with figure skating? And why does anybody (including the skaters that do interviews with her) even care about her at all?

Well, this week, during the sportsru ambassador scandal, people undigged some stuff and there are rumors.
Can bring the rumors here if you people are interested, although I do see how some folks would be heavily upset with me.

I would be interested in the rumors - if not here can you message me?

Please do! I refused to comment on it because I don't know russian and google translate doesn't help when you need to understand nuances. Gubanova is one of my favorite and I'm still in denial she actually said all those things that people are taking about. I'm sad and afraid for her if that is her mentality :(

will do tonight =)

From my reading of the interview, i would say that she has been exposed to some bad influences. Kind of people (including ones close to her) crowning her as godess of skating skills, saying she desereves to win and so on. And she is just a young girl.

I have to say I‘m not too interested in any rumors even though I can see how some would. Personally, I‘m just baffled how someone like her is allowed to continue making figure skating interviews but mostly why skaters still do it, given how many scandals were a result of her behavior. If I were a professional athlete, I would stay as far away from her as I could.

If people said correctly, Nastya said Trusova and Scherbakova will get a back pain because of quad, did better than Medvedeva and Tuktamysheva at cup final SP and even she was better than them the reason they got higher score is they got reputation or rating something like that. Finally she said Zagitova was lucky to born early so she could be olympian.

Can you translate full interview? As I know she said she will stay junior and explain why in that interview.
If she stays junior and gets to jgp It will be like

Valieva
Kanysheva
Sinitsyna
Tarusina
Vasilieva
Tarakanova
Gubanova
Usacheva

Payako my man you are breathing fire with your words and I like it.

I agree with a lot of what you said including how Anastasia has been low-balled in her scores over the years especially at home. I don't remember the Russian Junior Nationals competition you mentioned where she should have won ahead of Alena and Sasha. Is that available on YouTube? If so I would love to watch it. But to be honest Sasha and Alena and Anna for that matter have surpassed Nastya now. That is undeniable. The question is can Nastya close the gap on them this season? This is likley Nastyas last season to make her mark as a Russian figure skater. Otherwise if she continues to get buried and underscore the only thing she can do is change her citizenship to Belarus and skate for them. Let's hope it doesn't come for that and Anastasia has a healthy year and a great first season with her new coach and choreographer.

I adore Stasya she is beautiful and elegant but she's been put ahead of nastya twice unfairly in the opinion of many. Nastya is beautiful and elegant and her skating flows wonderfully with superb skating skills. But the Russian Federation has made it clear they do not adore her the way we do. I hope nastya I can still save her career in Russia.

If she never gets to the top Nastya can always do the money making professional shows for many years because of what a wonderful artistic skater she is. That is a natural environment for her. And the Russian ladies figure skater mantra in today's figure skating world as far as doing the money making shows goes means alot. Anastasia Gubanova from Russia sounds a lot better to me than Anastasia Gubanova from Belarus or some other country.

Now it's up to to Nastya to make strides this season and start to fulfill her vast potential. Hopefully she will get the scores she deserves.

I was talking about junior nationals in 2018.
Videos are available on youtube.

Kostornaia her SP she made a fall on her Lutz. https://youtu.be/JhA_z7ARF18

Trusova her FS she made a fall on her 4S. https://youtu.be/5OAPqkSGEfc

Gubanova her SP and her FP

Konstantinova her SP Step out and missed her combo.

This is why we should not expect Nastya to say I'll work harder, I lost due to my own faults like that.Even she was the only one who made clean programs What rusfed did?It doesn't matter how she's good or how she performed. If Rusfed have stupid intention they will give her terrible Goe terrible Pcs.

sounds like she could be called the skating version of Rita Skeeter

Well, Russian junior Nats 2018 surely had some sketchy judging. I remember even here many posters (including me) disagreed with Konstantinova being placed higher than Gubanova. It's natural that she was angry after she skated two good programs and placed below someone with multiple mistakes. Whether she should discuss such things with journalists is another question. But I believe the main issue with her interview was not this competition.
