Alina Zagitova

This was when world noticed Alina for the first time, at St. Gervais:

And now, she is Kleopatra:

It seems like such a long journey.... she changed and improved so much in such short amount of time. Once being behind all of her peers and being rejected by famous coaches, then to being the best skater in the world. And she doesn’t want to stop there, the progress compared to last year is so incredible. All those coaches who didn’t want to take her in back in the day are probably having massive regrets :)

Does anyone think that the start of Bad Guy with Alina using her phone and all the notification noises was a jab at that Jojo choreographer for using her social media followers to attack her?

It didn't cross my mind at first, but now that you're saying it.... Anyway, this is much better than the shirt-biting. I found that very unattractive.
And I'm also in love with her "Sotnikova-spin". I wish she would do it in the competitive program.

Not necessarily at Jojo. Let's not get it twisted. It wasn't Jojo's followers that attacked Alina. It started long before Jojo. It began when Daniil announced Bad Guy would be Alina's exhibition on Alina's birthday in May. Jojo wasn't even in the picture yet. Her followers didn't even know Alina existed. It was other followers (let's call them 'not fans of Alina') being egged on and encouraging hateful attacks on Daniil and Alina's IGs for being 'copycats' and 'stealing' another skater's favorite song.

Such a weird day to be an Alina fan. Alina posting happy pictures celebrating her birthday with her family on IG and getting vile comments on those same photos from 'not fans'.

The Jojo drama came about when those same 'not fans' sent Jojo a video of Alina's first Bad Guy performance in Japan. Jojo had a legitimate complaint but she had no idea of the people she was dealing with. To be fair to Jojo I don't think she ever thought that a complete hail storm of hate would be directed at Alina as a result of her public response. Hence her follow up post explaining that she in no way blamed Alina for this. Which those 'not fans' completely ignored because they were enjoying open season on Alina and Daniil way too much to just stop because someone asked them too.

It was never Jojo's social media followers harassing Alina. Or at least they were not the biggest part of the problem. After posting multiple comments asking people to quit attacking a teenager, Jojo DMed Alina to talk about it. She posted that she had talked with Alina via DM and everything was fine. Then Jojo posted a video in her IG stories asking people to leave Alina alone. Nope. Not happening.

Finally Jojo deleted the original IG post and all reference to it. She may not have known the level of crazy she was dealing with before but she sure does now. I think I am one of the few Alina fans who actually feels bad for her.

And it should be acknowledged that when Jojo knew that Alina was being attacked online she did everything she could to stop it. She certainly didn't encourage any of it either passively or directly. She didn't post vague passive aggressive IG stories referencing 'copycats' that insinuated she blamed Alina. She didn't 'like' any comments that were negative towards Alina or accused her of being responsible. She argued with those 'not fans' on her own social media, defended Alina in her comment section as well as on Alina's IG comment section.

At least she tried to stop it when she knew it was happening.

That is one reason I am so happy Alina kept that program. And I absolutely love the new choreography with the clever nod to all the insane social media harassment she got from 'not fans'. Then she just puts the phone down and skates! I love how at the end she finally just throws the phone away and smiles. Perfect ending.

Now we can all see how that ended.

Agree with every single word of it! Thanks Finley! It's all good now (though that weird feeling of seeing all these vile comments on Alina's IG on her birthday I can't be able to forget for some time)

Alina lives on the same plane as those stars in other parts of the whole spectrum of entertainment and sports. She, or her managers most likely, should be able to sort out any 'copycat'/'copyright' issues directly between the parties concerned.

And in the end, the pop star will be flattered by the fact an Olympic Champion is using part of her music and staged images in her exhibition program, where the source will be given full credit.

H@ters will be h@aters, no matter what, and Alina has learned to ignore them. Not that she wouldn't feel hurt or being unjustly attacked, but she never should take this personally.
(nor should any of the other skaters that received similar thrashing from the mob)

Brilliant!! Thanks for sharing this, I didn't get the phone choreo at first and now it all makes so much sense. ;)

I know, right?!!

I didn't either until I read some other fans interpretations on FSO and opinions in other comment sections. I'm really enjoying the positive feedback the performance is getting. Especially the new choreography. I was a little worried after all the earlier drama. Needlessly, because mostly everyone seems to be overwhelmingly supportive of the routine and Alina.

My first thought when she threw the phone - at some point in this season that phone is going to come down and hit her in the head.

Hopefully, they've taken that possibility into account! :drama:

But yeah, when I read that interpretation of the new choreography I had a major 'well of course that's it' moment. I now like the Bad Guy program about 1000% more than I did. Can't wait to see her skate it when she isn't as tired. I think it will be even better with more polish and miles on it.

Here's hoping we get to see it 6 more times this season at least!

That hurt my heart. All I could think of is that her little sister and her parents were reading that. While they were all together just celebrating her birthday at that nice restaurant.

That day forever changed my feelings towards some things.

I initially thought that too! but then... her space buns emanate protective field, I'm sure! So her head is safe! :)

So true, Finley! Thank you for that post!
Alina is wise beyond her years to be able to ignore all of that negativity, fully knowing those are just some crazies that aren’t worthy even a tiny bit of her nerves or attention.

Regarding the „we all know how it ended“... well, I‘d say some people lack the basic concept of compassion, if they choose to be snarky when the other person has just lost family. But I think it’s much wiser to ignore that, along with all passive aggressiveness, because karma will take care of it.
Anyways, I think it’s better to ignore all of the non-fans and all those other petty people, it’s not worth it. Some ff are mostly about hating on other skaters/coaches rather than caring about their favorites, and I like that this ff is just mostly positive and happy, I hope it will stay that way :) I even take Tarasova’s comments positively :) if she’s suddenly salty, it means everything’s going great :D
