2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I know it's not all about the medals....but I wish she got something better than that ugly plastic coaster for that beautiful performance.

It looked like she had no intentions whatsoever to pull out a 3s or a 3t out of those combinations, it's not a decision she took mid-air. (or maybe it was for the 2t)

Imo this is total speculation but to me after the SP result she realized that no matter what, judges of this event sent the clear message that they wanted Kostornaya to win, so she decided to skate more conservatively but clean since it would have probably been a 2nd place anyway.

Hmm, Liza is my fave performer. Unfortunately, her jump content was not optimized. What she needed was for the 3Lz-3T and 2A-1R-3S and maintain level 4 on the non jumps and she can out TES Alyona. The loss of levels, lip call and V on the combo spins are very costly.

Alyona's incredible performance and score here really has me wondering what they'll do between her and Alina this season if both go clean. Rika too.

Tuk has become the russian Ashley Wagner, she even posted her reaction on Instagram lol
this wont do her any favors especially in the judges eyes of disrespect.

God, I hope she doesn't model herself after Ashley...one was more than enough.

Unfortunately Liza has become a one-trick pony and after all these years, Mishin has put in zero effort to make her skating more interesting. The programs are just not good, especially the duller than dishwater FS. And the costume...what is that? She looks more like a real flight attendant than she did in her Toxic ex. She should focus her energies on becoming a more well-rounded skater, because we've seen all of this before and it's gotten stale.

Alena was very exciting, a real breath of fresh air. She even sold me on a Daniil Twilight program, which is saying something.

Damn, people were writing Kostornaia off just last week and now they're pegging her to win Worlds? Nothing is as fickle as a skating fan's predictions.

Maybe Alena will be the next world champion yet :agree:

As to Liza, I hope everything falls into place at RusNats, which is what matters most this season.

How did Nastya T., Nastya G. and Liza N. do at the Cup of Russia?

Well, landing 2 3A does drastically increase her chances of winning. This means when she is against Alina she can win. Which means she can go to the GPF and go into Russian nationals looking good. It means a lot. Of course, she will have to continue to skate well and not get injured over the course of the season.

I'd say the other way around  2t looked more intentional, whereas 2S was a mid-air opening. :laugh2: let me rewatch, I'm pretty sure the 2t was after 3Lz, and 2Sal was after 2A and euler.

maybe you're right i don't know, but like i said it's very common to see Mishin skaters doubling combos at the early event when it's not that worth going for the triple.

Regardless if this was planned from the start, or after the short program, or in between the performance, the point still stay: i seriously doubt she'd have won here with a clean skate even with 2 3-3s, and given the low scores, maybe she would have not even received the new SB.

Alyona vs Alina? Will be a tough decision, Alyona clearly established her quality of content and its execution here, Alina still needs to get some 'official' scores and I can imagine Alyona having the edge over Alina right now.

#TeamTutberidzeForProgress have a lot on their mind in maximising the chances of each and every of their Awesome Aces.

6 medal places this weekend, 4 of them Gold Medals (Finlandia, Denis Ten Memorial and 2nd Stage of Russian Cup) !!!

How did Nastya T., Nastya G. and Liza N. do at the Cup of Russia?

1. Elizaveta Nugumanova 195.19
2. Anastasia Tarakanova 188.11
3. Anastasia Gubanova 178.05

Same positions in SP and FS.

It's only October, and already Alena and Sasha have scored above 230, Anna, Liza, and Evgenia above 215, and Alina seems poised to hit 230, not even counting the juniors (Kamila's above 220, Ksenia above 215, etc.). I wish we could see all of them represented at the championships!

Somewhat unexpected. Will Liza N. get an international assignment? I know she has an UR problem but it seems she's been working hard to improve. It wasn't that long ago when people thought she would be a world champion.

Ah yes, it was supposed to be the era of Nugumanova and Gubanova battling it out.

And so they have the nerve to call the Russian press yellow tabloids...

Kostornaia can only win over Trusova if he makes serious mistakes, he always won that way (JGPF 2018). Today skating clean Trusova has 175 points or more. Kostornaia will not exceed 165 with PCS better than those of Yuna Kim, and we all know that Trusova will never be more than 5 points below her in SP.

And do not forget that Trusova is training 3A, at some point it will dominate and thus goodbye competition, will have an SP of 80 + FS of at least 180. There you will only have to wait for Zhilina to be a senior to defeat her with her same TES.

I KNOW!!! wasn't she proclaimed 'Eteri's least favourite', "Eteri's writing her off", "Eteri doesn't care about her".
Ehm... The tables have turned! At least people will stop speculating whether Eteri hates her own skaters... for a week or so maybe :laugh2:

Wow! What a senior debut for Alena! I'm very happy that the judges are not afraid of rewarding her. She really is the entire package. And to think it could even get better! She looked so happy in the second half of her program, she was just flying across the ice, and you could tell she was excited by what she had done.

Looking back, all of the 3A really had crazy amazing senior debuts. Now its time to see how well they'll do on the Senior GP. It'll be interesting to see Anna vs. Liza round two. Anna's big thing this season will be whether she can keep that quad lutz consistent, and whether she will eventually add a second quad in. Keeping it consistent will be crucial in winning against Liza on the GP (who seems to be super consistent with her 3As this season), and later to making the Euros and Worlds teams. For Sasha, it will be interesting to see if she can keep landing these quads like she has been, and to see how many she needs to land to beat Evgenia and Rika on the GP, and later the rest of the 4A. We know she'll probably win against anyone if clean, but the question is, how many quads does she need to land to be unbeatable? One of the most interesting battles imo will be Alena vs Alina, and at NHK Alena vs. Alina vs. Rika. If Alena has three clean 3A, its hard to see her not winning over both of them, unless Rika adds a clean quad, in which case it will probably be close. However, we have yet to see how consistent she is on that 3A, and whether she'll add it to the short. She landed two here, which was amazing, but we did see in practice that sometimes she fell on the second one. The question again will be, how many clean 3As will it take for the judges to put Alena above Alina? They will both be getting huge PCS, so it will probably come down to how clean they are. Alina also has been looking amazing this season, so hopefully we will see her keep that up. And All I hope is that the 4A all make the GPF, they're all so deserving. I think Tukt also will probably make it from the looks of things, especially considering Tursynbaeva is out.

It wasn't a case that they wanted Kostornaia to win and made it happen. Alena made it happen and absolutely deserved her scores.
Liza just wasn't as good. Even her jumps didn't save her this time and neither did hand signals and sass.
