2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Here's Aliona Kostornaia's full video interview with English subtitles:

Enjoy! :agree:

Bless whoever translates these things, they're awesome to watch! And awesome that 1tv puts them out. You really learn a lot about these girls! I can't wait to see Alina's. I'm glad figure skating is popular enough in Russia that these sorts of things are made. I wish it were that popular over here.

No, you are not right. I see in this thread only:

Negative opinion about Zhenya = hateful, rude, conspiracy, completely false

I mean doesn’t commenting that someone has an unflattering dress considered rude? So you basically exemplified yourself LOL .

Aliona has included 3A in her SP planned content. No changes for Alina.

Could always change, but including it in planned content is promising at the very least! I will miss her ina bauer + 2A + falling leaf combo, but her transitions into 3A aren't too shabby either.

Love that she's pushing herself and not letting Anna and Trusova overshadow her

and how the Eteri's team handles having internal competition.

4A have already competed between themselves on senior level (@RusNat), and haven't scratched each others' eyes out, so TeamTut must be doing something right there

Correct. But today the circumstances changed dramatically.
A year ago they decided who is going to JWC. Because only one of them could participate in WC (and win). That One felt safe, more or less.
December 2019 will decide who's going to Majors. Major tournaments like WC is the steps of your career. JWC is a nice to have.
And they have to literally push one out. OK, we have some non-TUT girls like MED and TUK, but I'm a little skeptical.

I have mixed feelings about this...I love her 3A but it seems risky putting it into the SP here, a mistake could put her further behind Alina than skating clean without it. That is assuming Alina will also skate clean and I think she will, she seems to be skating for the fun of it now, with the pressure being heaped on her younger rivals she looks so much more relaxed this season.

Well but Alena is eventually going to (and needs to) include the 3A in the SP at some point of this season. Better have the first try here, than at NHK (more risk with both Alina and Rika there), GPF, or RusNationals.

I have mixed feelings about this for a different reason. Because I love her Ina bauer-2a-falling leaf so, so much. I'll really miss it... but at least we have the JGPF SP for the 2A version of the Departure, so I'll look forward to the 3A version of it.

Good luck, Alena!

I don't think they would have added it if it wasn't consistent enough. I'm sure Alyona will be fine.

I do think she can win over Alina even without the 3A in the short, but like, eventually she would have to add it anyways if she wants a fighting chance. Tbh, she will need it for NHK already if she wants to win.

I worry most of all for Masha Sotskova . I wish it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPRDJH5yEi4 (FS 84.77) wouldn't happen again. She's a very nervous girl. I hope she won't cry.

I had forgotten Masha would be in France...I really hope she does okay, it is horrible to watch her suffer as she has been doing. She keep saying she loves skating and wishes to continue, but I worry that if these bad skates continue it will affect her mentally. Her misery the last couple of outings was obvious, seeing her cry was awful.

Same :/ but she has won everything there is to win. Hopefully she can relax and put out clean programs no matter the score

i am sure Alina has something in the works back home, it's probably just not ready yet. i would rather her put a confident attempt at a 3A or quad in later than trying to do one when it's not ready.

I completely agree. I’d feel the same if 3a was not allowed but a quad combo was. It is very unfair.
isu is good at being unfair. ;)

Super worried about Alina
Why? She has won everything and will go down as one of the greats. If Alina never adds a quad or triple axel it will be okay. But it will be hard for her to fend off 3A and. Rika this season. If Alina knows she can score 230 to 250 points per competition without a super difficult move like a triple axel or a quad and she may think she doesn't have to add it.

She needs a good performance. But her confidence is ruined so how can that happen? Masha is also 5 ft 8 in tall which is incredibly tall for a lady figure skater these days and of course the taller you are the harder it is to do all these tough moves the shorter girls do. Good luck Masha. She was gifted this Grand Prix event and must take advantage of it. It may be her last chance to stay relevant with the Russian ladies
