“I definitely haven’t had such a personal program yet.” Zagitova - about her new exhibition routine
Russian skater, Olympic Champion and World Champion Alina Zagitova talked about her new exhitibition, with which she will perform in the 2019/20 season.
The routine is dedicated to the mother of Daniil Gleikhengauz, the choreographer in Eteri Tutberidze's group, who passed away on August 29.
“Of course, this is a definite experience. I certainly didn’t have such a program, such a personal one, before. It is dedicated to the mother of Daniil Markovich, our beloved choreographer Lyudmila Borisovna Shalashova, who worked with me for a very long time, preparing me for the Olympics. We communicated very well. For me, she became part of my family, so for me it was also a tragedy. But we have to go on living.
Daniil Markovich came to the morning training session and shared his idea for a demonstration program. Told me a story. This was a very moving story. It is very important for me to convey what Daniil Markovich feels. I understand that I cannot convey this exactly, but at least to try is very, very important to me.
Our life is not eternal, and there is always an end. We are born, look at this world with children's eyes in the beginning, then we have our first pains, disappointment. It can be love, in sports it is a fall. Then we cope with all this, live, enjoy life. And in the end, we look back at this life, we like it, we smile.
I will skate primarily for her. I will try to fully convey this image. I hope I will succeed, I will try very hard,” Zagitova told Channel One.

Choreographer of the group Eteri Tutberidze, Daniil Gleikhengauz told Channel One that Zagitova's 2019/20 exhibition routine is dedicated to his mother Lyudmila Shalashova. The choreographer passed away on August 29.
“All this happened by itself. This is how my brain and my imagination reacted to what happened in my life, because it was literally three days after my mother died. Perhaps this is how I wanted to experience this emotion inside myself, that she did not leave, but was reborn into something beautiful, connected with nature, and that life goes on.
My mother spent a lot of time, and studied, with all our athletes and, in particular, with Alina. Probably, it’s even an honour for me that it is she who will perform the dedication to my mother. When I came to the skating rink and told her about my idea, the first thing she said to me: “Would you like to skate this program on the show yourself?” It was very nice of her, but still I like to convey my ideas and ideas through her and her skating.
I wanted this number to be understood by people from all over the world. It doesn't matter what language you speak, what your traditions are, or the colour of your skin. This is a story that is understandable to every person. This is a story about our life. About human life and nature. About how we are born, our first look at this world, the first steps and how we get into this world, we see all its beauty, pain, disappointment, love. Through all this, Alina guides us throughout this routine And in the end, after going all this way, she goes to where it all began - closes, and a new life grows out of her hand.
I am extremely grateful to fate that I have the opportunity to convey my idea and my feelings with choreography, that I can show them through my favourite work. And that I have such a wonderful athlete who can convey what I want to say to people,” said Gleikhengauz.
