2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

i think the thing that makes me so sad and angry when it comes to these skaters who are stuggling is the criticism they receive. i have seen so much nastiness and hate toward Masha on this forum recently, and it's so uncalled for. ALL of these girls are doing their best under their circumstances...not many stop to think about what they may be dealing with off the ice that affects them on the ice, and it's so unfair to them. we should be cheering on and encouraging them all, because that's the least they deserve.

Exactly. They're not characters in a computer game.

But this is an analytical thread and not a fanfest. It is a fact that she is underperforming. There might be good reasons. But objectively she is going nowhere with this kind of performances and this could very likely mean the end of her as a successful russian ladies or even her career. I don't see anything wrong in pointing that out. But who knows maybe she has the will and money (no A team member anymore, much less Fed support) to surprise us. I certainly think she could give the sport much more joy with her fine lines. However, it is not very likely to see her jump quads or 3a -and anything else is not enough anymore for a Russian lady. I am afraid,Truth hurts

There is a lot of nastiness on Social media about Maria, people saying she doesn't deserve to be in a GP, insulting her in general (not going to repeat some of the things I've seen).
I don't know why some people are like this, always quick to kick a skater when they're already down.

It was the same after Zhenya's heartbreaking Skate Canada SP, those who want to see her fail were gleeful.

I try to avoid reading these things, but they turn up on my Twitter feed and such.
You Tube comments are particularly vile but easier to ignore.

There is a difference between what you are saying and the straight up nastiness that goes on in certain places.

agreed. and no, this isn't a fan fest, but it's very safe to say hardly any of the criticism towards struggling skaters is not constructive or well meaning whatsoever.

Well, after the Men's Short I have to say I'm not 100 % convinced that there's no issue with the ice quality.
Most of them had pretty rough skates jumps wise. But maybe it was just a bad day.

I hope everything will go well for the girls.

It's about the manner in which criticism is offered.

Well, Alina was like 110% clean in her practices, so I‘m not worried about her. She seems to be in a great mood, very confident. She’ll get high marks for that SP and be our leader, I’ve rarely felt so sure about something. I‘m scared for Aliona, though. I kind of wish they were playing it safe in the SP.. I just hope she will be calm and doesn’t feel too much pressure to win here. Everyone has their own journey and just because the other two new seniors won their GP, doesn‘t mean she has to do the same. I’m having my fingers crossed for both girls, though, that the ice behaves and they‘ll sit comfortably in first and second after the competition.

Exactly!

Cup of Russia 3rd Stage Sochi

Top ten results of the Short Programme Junior Ladies (CMS)

Darya Usachёva 73+
Liza Berestovskaya 69+
Nina Ryabinina 64+
Kamila Sultanmagomedova 63+
Varvara Kisel 62+
Stanislava Molchanova 62+
Alexandra Makhalova 59+
Kamilla Nelyubova 59+
Maiia Khromykh 58+
Mariya Dmitrieva 57+

Darya had a superb skate to secure the lead. Liza delivered a strong challenge. We haven't seen much of her for a while.
Maiia skated well but had a fall on her final jump element.

Berestovskaya has good skating skills, a good foundation to build, lacks knee bend but good enough deep edges and stroking on the ice
who is her coach ?

She is part of #TeamDavydov, skating at CSKA, 2nd best team in Moscow IMO.

Liza has been a longstanding rival of Sofiya A's and has accumulated quite a few medals in past seasons. She seemed conspicuous by her absence last season. She, Sofiya and Sofiya S are more or less coeval. Does anyone know when she turns thirteen? Same question about Adelya.

It's arguable, despite the loss of Anna T, particularly now that they have acquired Kseniia Ts. and with Vika V being so consistent. On balance, probably on par with Snowleopards, with Kseniia S, Nastya T, Nastya K (where is she these days?).

I haven't followed russian juniors recently so I did look up videos, she seems she was in russian Ice Age kids
did she got injured last season ?

58 for Khromykh seems low even with a fall?

I think she's lovely, but Maiia seems so fragile, nervous and inconsistent...particularly compared to the other Eteri girls.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. She, Kamila and Darya were pretty much rotating the golds, silvers and bronzes among themselves in last season's domestic competitions, and she was consistent, by and large. It may be a growth matter or she needs a bit of time to grow accustomed to the wider glare of publicity.

It's because she didn't just fall, she fell on the first jump of her combo and couldn't get the 3T in. So she lost about 4-5 points just for the missing jump and then lost even more for actually falling.

If I'm remembering correctly she was a lot more consistent last year, hardly ever falling, and now it seems to happen every competition, if not every skate. I wonder what's happening with her.
