2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

After watching everyone skate, Alena deserved the first place but deserved a more comfortable cushion. Her 3A was shaky but not UR. Deduct the GOE, but don't throw phantom calls. PCS a crime as usual - she deserved more!

And the surprising and humiliating thing is to know that the flutz of Evgenia was never called for years, which allowed him to get all his medals.

The calls for the girls were:

Alena – 3A<, 3Lz!
Alena – 3Lze3Lo< + time violation (-1.0)

That is just crazy. I couldn't see that the 3A was underrotated, and edge call for Alinas Lutz! That must be a first. Her Loop was under though.

Aliona saying "Why did I even jump?" after the scores were announced is right on point.

The SP is over and the protocols are out - I don't really have any words for what is happening other than "IdF is cursed".

Just looked through the protocol...they gave Alina an 'e' call on her Lutz, I don't think I've ever seen her get one before.

if you look at the slow mo clips, her edge really was flat, at worst. The edge call was basically called as she left the ice (the movement of the blade inwards as they pick up that a lot of Russian ladies do) which is ridiculous to me. Alena's 3A also? was barely even under? Was it even under? Her Lz looked perfectly fine to me.

What on earth...

I thought the calls were egregious. Not even strict, just plain weird

I don't think it's fair to drag Alina into the drama about the PCS. She receives such scores because she's just that good. Look at her SP - it's beautifully done and executed, a lot of interesting transitions and a great StepSq. I am on the same page with you though considering Alena's PCS. The problem was that she was underscored and not that Alina was overscored, who btw also got an edge call!!! I mean what!? They gave her 3 Lutz on slow motion, and yes sometimes she tends to get flat before airborn, but never inside. And this was the case here too! And also can someone explain the time violation? She started and finished her skate on time..

Alena afer skate were surprised by her marks and said

"It was a shame because I performed the program well enough, but the judges decided that it wasn’t.
Therefore, we can say that the perfomance was not very successful. There were still errors that were not visible.
It just didn’t work out (in training, I performed triple axel purely), I had to change my mind, but I don’t want to make excuses"

Judging seems to be stricter this year with the number of e, !, and > calls Alena, Anna, Alina, Zhenya, and Liza have received so far between themselves.

Last time I checked Zhenya was still a girl... :slink: Also, she probably would have won most of her medals even with an e call on each of her lutzes. Just sayin'

There's a difference between strict calls and completely arbitrary and unnecessary calls (dare I say it, wrong calls?) that's been happening since the very start of the season

Isn't the time violation received if the skater takes longer than 30s after their name is called to start? Alina was in the position before 30s.... I don't understand so many things tonight. And receiving 3Lze? :drama:

Right. Russian ladies have been dominating the figure skating world for way too long (since 2015), especially Eteri's if we have to be more precise.

EDIT: Vandevska, someone on Alina's FF told me that her SP lasts 2:51 min and the official maximum is 2:50, so she received the time violation deduction.

Taken of the fan fest of Alena:
I really dont want to compare Alena to another skaters but Med got 34 PCS with 2 falls, im sorry, im just angry.

Im a little bit worried that Alena said that stuff about judging, it can backfire

she didn't say anything "bad" about the judges. what she said was true, the judges didn't like her performance, and it showed in the scoring. she is taking responsibility for whatever errors there were, even if she thinks the calls were BS.

Different competitions, different panels, different instructions? Do we notice a tendency towards more stricter calling and judging? The top field with the Four Amazing Aces, a quartet of the best skaters from one single rink the world has not seen before, is now so competitive, a clearer distinction between the absolute best and the very best is necessary??

Really? I just don't believe that. Daniil and Eteri especially would never make a mistake like that.
