Alina will be treated with respect and deservedly so in Japan. I'm sure she's leaving France a little bit bewildered.

And a special gold medal should be awarded to flanker for always standing tall like the Berlin Wall for Alina Alina Sasha and Anna! :) ;)

Japan is special for Alina like a second home. She won the GPF and the world championship + Japan Open :agree:

I’m sure, she will give her best not to disappoint her fans

Very true. Who was she skating against there? Rika?

Ted is right. It's unbelievable. I hope they all remain friends but the competition is going to get crazy in the next few years. It's going to get like Zhenya and Alina in 2018 except between 4 incredible young ladies not just 2. Then you add evgenia Liza Sofia Stanislava and all the Anastasias and we will have a lot to talk about on this forum in the coming years just among the Russian ladies. Then there is Kamila lurking in the shadows.

And I have a feeling that Viktoria Z. might end up being the best of all in a few years. Flexibility, power and a determined gleem in her eyes. LOL

Veronika's textbook jumps are so nice to watch, though her 2a reminds me a lot of Yulia's which is a bit worrying.

You mean the technical controller. The way panels sometimes work is that they decide in advance who will look at what. For example, tt would be very difficult for one person to call spin levels on their own since there are several things to look at - number of positions, variations, number of revolutions in each position etc. So they split the task.

When it comes to jumps, two need to agree on edge, UR or downgrade calls. From the angles available to us, it's safe to say that some obvious URs weren't called, some jumps that looked ok got URs. Some edge calls aren't clear to us but some truly are. Let's not pretend all of Alina's jumps yesterday and today were clean. Whoever claims that either does not know what to look or is ignoring what they see.

With competition at this, previously unthinkable, level of difficulty and intensity, ISU needs to up its technology support for both specialists and judges alike.

At least two camera positions using above prosumer grade equipment, i.e. high frame rate camera's with good optics perhaps only focussed what happens at blade level?

I am all in favour of strict but fair judging, where every error gets called with every skater, so skaters actually are able to learn avoiding those errors. There is too much chance of human error and deviation today.

I got chills watching Alena today. She's really a gem in figure skating.
Also, why do some people insist in calling the triple axel a "triksel"? That's more letters than the properly shortened "trixel". It makes more sense to shorten it with the right letters...

Very strange that the US skater , Mariah, holds the US flag and represents her country. The 2 Russians represent Eteri. 😂

No strange at all. Both girls had normal flags at the beginning of flag photo shooting. Alena had one with the state eagle and Alina the normal one. Then there was a second round of photos where they were given the flag with their photos on it.

Alyona: Congratulations on the first senior Grand Prix win! I am glad that she managed to overcome the understandable disappointment from the SP scoring injustice and that uncharacteristic fall in the practice to deliver close to her maximum potential in the FS. I hope she continues on an upward path.

Alina: Congrats on the silver! I admired her fighting spirit and how she managed to perform the 3Lz-3Lo combo out of that difficult entry — highly reminiscent of the epic Pyeongchang FS save. Also, what a class act and role model she is in terms of dignity and sportsmanship! It mustn’t be easy for her to deal with the combination of her transition into adulthood, her career prospects threatened by a crop of newcomers with more advanced technical skills, and the multiple unwarranted calls she received in France from a technical panel that is either grossly incompetent or acting in bad faith. But she handled all of these superbly, and I do hope she will emerge stronger from these challenges.
