Alina Zagitova

Hi guys, I haven't posted here in a while, but I just finally arrived home from Grenoble, after a memorable 3 days of IdF and I wanted to share a bit of my experience here...

This was the first competition I've ever attended and honestly, I have no idea if I'll get the chance to attend another one any time soon, as they're so much more far away and expensive for me in the U.S. or Canada.

After watching so many competitions on TV, it felt almost surreal to be at this one place with all of the fans, media people, coaches and the skaters I've always seen only through the screen.
I was also very lucky that most of my favorite skaters from the different disciplines were skating here, but first and foremost, I was there for Alina.

Some unexpected things happened to me while I was there... I got to meet the always amazing Team Zagitova, helped them give away some of the red banners with Alina's name that we see at every one of her competitions and on both days, they gave me one of the big heart plushies to throw on the ice after Alina's skates. I also ended up being interviewed by Russian 1tv channel about Alina, they asked how I became her fan and if she has many fans in Mexico and Spain (where I'm living atm) and let me assure you yes, she does!

Watching Alina live felt a bit different from watching her on TV. Whenever she was on the ice, it was hard to take your eyes away from her. She's so beautiful, elegant and graceful.
At first, I was definitely upset with the scores. I wanted to celebrate Alina's victory and I was sad after the final results were announced but after seeing Alina so calm and happy, I felt much better. Seeing her new EX and then seeing her dancing and having fun at the end was the perfect finale.

Like Alina herself said, placements don't matter that much anymore. Watching Alina enjoy her skates so much and supporting her is more than enough. She has reached a point where no crappy judging or lame politicking can ruin the party and that's amazing to see

Thank you for that incredible report. I'm glad everything worked out for you the way you wanted it. I think I saw you and Bewitched on a Russian TV channel commenting on the skaters. Amazing.

I was looking at the award ceremony and noticed something

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC7e3M8qyzE&feature=youtu.be
19.38

Looks like Aliona made a joke about the tech specialist Prins (bald one) to Alina (Aliona was looking at him), and Alina was like 'stop it'

OMG she totally did! Hahaha probably wanted to hit him with the bouquet:

"Now's my chance, Alina!"
"Aliona, no!"
"Aliona, yes!"

Also notice how 16 minutes in they accidentally gave the gold medal to Mariah, I think Alina was the first to notice. Mariah presenting it to Aliona with Alina cracking up in the background was adorable!

IDF again proves to be the hot mess of the GP circuit. Never change, guys. At least they gave out real-looking medals this time. ;)

This might be one of my all time favorite medal ceremonies!

Yeah, the Victory Ceremony...

Looked like Aliona wanted to hit his "upper head" with her flowers.

Remembering old anecdote:

- [Judge] Why did you hit your husband with an iron?
- [Widow] Well, it just happened I had no feather fan on hand.

Amazing! It was my 1st big competition experience also and probably my last for a while. They always seem to be in places that are expensive for me to get to [emoji853]
Glad you enjoyed it. It was such an amazing atmosphere. I couldn’t believe how great the crowd were. Alina came across so well and mature during the whole thing and it was lovely to see how she works with her coaches.

Hello guys i just wondering, is there any possibility that the coaches would work on alina's posture ?? Both of her current programs are so lovely but in the FP, I cant help but notice the hunched back so much more than on the SP. Now that she is chasing the components point more than the technical, i wish that they would work on this. I mean even rafael was still training eunsoo posture before they split.

lopsilceci, you said all of it really well! And I am glad that I Met wonderful fans like you and egoshina!

I also arrived safely home in Munich yesterday (P/C were on my fight, people!!! I ran immediately for autographs, of course).

Overall it was a great competition. The city of Grenoble I didn't enjoy at all, the bad weather didn't help too. But for me it was important to see some good skating and I didn't stay disappointed.

My advise to all of you, who will attend future competitions, is to attend the official practices. It's a really good opportunity to see your favourites closely and observe the training process and how they warm up and deal with difficulties. I made tons of videos of 3Lz3Lo and 3A because we positioned ourselves always in the corners of the ice rink. My friend even made some slow-motion videos, I uploaded one of them on my insta (joannakarakolova).

The main problem for us was the fact that we sat in sector M which is with no fixed placements which meant that we had to be always somewhere in the beginning of the queue for the hall entrance if we want to get good places. On Saturday we had to get out twice and stand in a queue for about 4 hours summed up. But it was totally worth it because out seats were great.

I also got interviewed for 1tv Russia and they asked me why Alina. I said that she has charisma, that she is like a magician on ice to me and that she skates with her heart. They asked me also if there are many fans in Bulgaria and I said that figure skating is not so popular anymore but there are still people who follow, especially the Russian ladies.(My mom got so excited about the interview that she watched only 1tv news instead of Bulgarian news for two consecutive days :D).

The competiton atmosphere was really unforgettable. I was surprised that so many people came this year to Grenoble because usually they are fewer in the audience. It was so great seeing many red banners supporting Alina all over the arena. Team Zagitova were perfectly organized and they were all super nice people!

Alina was calm and focused during the practices and at the competition. We saw her many times just jogging around on the higher floor of the arena. It was very often visible how strong a connection she has to Daniil.

At the competition she was just magnificent! Me Voy was dramatic and elegant, Cleopatra was noble and proud. We all cheered for her as loud as we could! It was the best feeling ever!

The medal ceremony was also a highlight. When the three girls went to search for flags, my friend literally threw our flag at Alina. A group of Russians near us saw it and threw their flag (of Alina and Alyona's faces) at Alina too. It was like a storm of flags! I managed to film it but I was super excited and the quality is not good, it's again on my insta.

Alina chose our flag for the main photos and then uploaded the picture in her profile and nothing could make me happier! Well maybe if she had left an autograph on it so that my friend can have one from her too, but I assured him that this flag will meet Alina again. (:

At the end of the day, we were very tired and confused by the protocols and all the absurd judging but the girls were so happy that we just felt happy together with them. Don't worry, fellow fans, better and more fair scores will come!
For now let's pray for the girls' health and for a good placement for Alina at NHK so that all the 4A qualify for the GPF!

P.S. I wish you all to have the opportunity to see Alina live, she is a walking piece of art!

Thank you so much for your posts! So nice to hear that you all had a wonderful experience in France and enjoyed beautiful skating of Alina :)

P.s. I was reading comments and it looks like Alina had a cold during idf. People are saying she had high temperature and wasn’t feeling well.

You were lucky to see her on live :)

I’m glad she’s more relaxed and enjoys skating. Last saison she was always tensed like she had to win every competition because she’s the reigning olympic champion and was the only senior to rely on. Liza was sick, zhenia not in her top form and Sofia had not a competitive program to match the Japanese.

This year she can rely on her teammates, she knows the 3A will succeed her but she already won all the competition. Having one more title or two will not change anything because she’s already a champion.

+ what about this stupid question about beating Alina ? Sure Alena was better because Alina made mistakes and her program is less difficult (no triple A or quad). Nobody asked Alina what she felt beating Zhenia after the Olympics and zhenia didn’t make any mistakes. The journalist was so stupid.

She caught a cold just before idf during shooting her ex for 1TV, so she came to France with temperature 39 (info from Alina’s group in VK)

It all makes sense now, it's amazing she pulled out very decent performances given her fever.
