TF: - Alina, you've just completed your first full competition this season in GP here in France where you took silver. How did you feel at this comp? And how would you evaluate your performances here?

- I felt fine. I liked the atmosphere a lot. I wanted to skate with pleasure, and managed to do that, so I'm satisfied. There were some slip-ups, so there's something to work on in the future.

TF: - It was a bit strange to see some UR calls. What happened there?

- Well... there were some UR's, I'll zealously work on them as soon as I return to Moscow.

TF: - How difficult was it for you this time? Previously you used to do some CS first but here you competed at a GP event from the get go?

- We discussed it with my coaches and decided that it would be better for me this way. I performed at the JO and presented my FS programme there. Basically, I think I had enough experience to perform there without doing a challenger first.

TF: - And you had a very good performance there.

- Yes, plus the atmosphere at the JO was similar to the one at the WC and I was agitated in the same way I was at the WC last year. I felt sort of nostalgic and I think because of that I felt as if I competed at two challengers right there.

TF: - Without the SP

- Yes, without the SP

TF: - And here, were you nervous when you arrived?

- Before the SP I didn't feel that nervous, because now when I skate I just want to show my maximum, my result, and to enjoy what I do. I was a bit nervous before the FS, but then it dissipated.

TF: - And we can say that you truly fought till the end while performing that programme. This season you portray completely different characters, and you've mentioned earlier that they were atypical for you. How did you manage to get into the characters?

- The coaches helped a lot with that. We discuss every character in detail, they explain and show with words and gestures how it should be doneб and it helps me a lot with connecting with the characters.

TF: - You've mentioned at the press conference that the Oriental motifs are close to you, and it really shows in your performance. It looks like you are on cloud nine when you skate that FS programme, and get a kick out of it.
Is that really so?

- Yes, and when they proposed the music for the FS I was delighted, I really like the Oriental motifs and this does indeed give a kick when performing on ice.

TF: - At the press conference you mentioned that you remember the time when you were a fresh senior yourself. What do you feel now seeing the new crop of fresh senior, any nostalgia for that time, maybe?

- No, absolutely calm about it - it's the way it's always been in fs, new girls coming to the stage, so no.

TF: - What I meant is if you remember how you felt at that time?

- Sure, it was interesting when I became a senior, since the atmosphere is completely different from the one at the junior competitions. Now I've travelled a lot, gained experience and the atmosphere is more calm.

- I think that she will still fight for first places. She is a champion, she will strive for victory. Today, the main thing for her is to get to the finals, and there she will already fight. Now second place gives her such an opportunity. Her next stage is in Japan. Everything is gradual. We will not guess yet what and how it will be. Two more weeks.

- Alina says that the main thing for her is to ride and perform in pleasure, and places are secondary. After all her victories, what do you think, is it possible not to be upset by defeats?

- Firstly, athletes do not always say what they really feel. And not only athletes, but also coaches, functionaries. What does she say? What is upset to be spared? What for? She is a champion, she is a beauty, she is a queen. Alina will say so to keep up with her. But I am sure that she will do everything to improve and compete.

I am delighted with her programs - both short and arbitrary. Alina became so adult and deep, such an penetration into music. Something amazing and amazing. I would like to note that it is very difficult to set yourself up for a fight when you do not own quadruples, an axel in three and a half turns. And she somehow motivates herself, and from this the beauty that comes from her simply absorbs. Zagitova gives hope to those skaters who do not have multi-turn jumps. Her mission is very important.

Do we know how reliable this sources are? She looked that she was cold, she had something in her hands all the time on training to get heat? Most likely she was cold before GP and got weaker. During the competition she didn't look like having 38-39 temperature.

i guess we’ll never know is it true or not without any confirmation from the coaches team or from Alina herself but it is not in their rules to report the deseases

Zagitova will shine even without gold medals

As for Alina herself, only the blind man did not notice positive changes in her. This is not about technology - it was at a high level and remained, and mistakes will go away as they “enter” the season. The thing is how the skater looks on the ice. Now from her comes absolutely incredible self-confidence that you feel even sitting at the TV screen. And renting a short program to the song of Israeli singer Yasmin Levy Me Voy personally seems to me to be Alina’s best performance in her career. It had everything: passion, and tenderness, and resentment, and the bitterness of loss. She subtly felt the mood of the song and brilliantly interpreted it in such a limited timing, and the lowered hand at the end makes me freeze.

Alina is growing up and is discovering new facets of figure skating. It is noticeably progressing in terms of presentation and interpretation of programs. She becomes real. And even the picky judges in Grenoble could not ignore this and put her the highest components of the season - both in the short and in the free program.

Perhaps you and I are witnesses to an almost mythical event - the appearance of a skater who can balance between a "mature female" skating and excellent, if not advanced, technology. And what will happen next is a question, the answer to which we will receive no earlier than this season ends. Obviously, for victories over Trusova, Shcherbakova and Kostornaya, she needs to complicate the program with ultra-si-elements, but this is all in the future. It is possible that she will no longer stamp victory, as before. Sport is a harsh thing, and female figure skating is a distillate of severity. Alina herself was the junior who overthrew the leader, and now, being on the other side of the barricades, takes on a new role with dignity. And this is the same weighty criterion of greatness, like all its gold medals, which have long ago lost track of.

She is guaranteed to be on the podium, and the value of silver or bronze is in any case very high. And the solution of strategic tasks, such as reaching the Grand Prix finals and getting into the national team following the results of the Russian championship, is also within her power. But now for Zagitova the most important thing is satisfaction from her own activities and the joy of the fans. And Alina, like no one else, has the right to set priorities in this way. Because she had long ago proved everything to everyone.
