2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Interesting. I never thought of it that way. But it makes sense that, because of funding, the Rostelecom Cup will be a crucial competition for Zhenya. She really needs to be on the podium. Most important competition though will be RusNats. She probably needs to be top five there, but there are many hungry girls chasing her.

I thought it was RusFed which funds the athletes from the national team. Can someone explain to me ? For example, when an athlete medals and receives prize money, I thought the RusFed takes the money and funds the athletes, coaches and clubs but maybe I’m wrong.

If Rostelecom funds Zenhia, it’s indeed more pressure.

The only thing we can say for sure is that Zhenya will be on the ice in a very nervous state.
It is clear that we are not talking about the final. It's ridiculous.

It is necessary to think how to get into the expanded national team next year and get the usual funding for Zhenya. Oddly enough, but Zhenya should be interested in the physical condition of Sonya Samodurova and Alena Kanysheva and Lisa's plans for the next season. At the Russian championship, she should get into the top 7. But it will be very difficult to do. Yes, Konstantinova, Sotskova and Sakhanovich are not happy with the results and are unlikely to pose a threat. But Sinitsina and Vasilyeva are fine. Tsibinova, Gulyakova, Nugumanova and Gubanova are waiting for their chance like a hungry shark. Kanysheva trains in Crystal, it says a lot. 4A and Lisa are also ready to fight. Eugenia has to show the best that she can. Otherwise, Rostelecom may stop funding these canadian holidays. Improvements from them see only fans of Zhenya, who remember the good old days and are willing to forgive the regression, visible to the naked eye. Skating from Zhenya without falls has already become a holiday for us and for her. Each element seems heavy and made of the last forces. Even the performance at the world Cup is a parody of the previous Zhenya. The most important thing is her eyes before skating. Such eyes were have Alina in the past year. Eteri has solved this problem.
Many of you will be angry with me, but Zhenya has to change something. With Orser she would hang her skates on a nail in a year. Unfortunately I don't see many coaches who are willing to take the risk and take her on.
I really want to believe that I'm wrong and everything will be fine. But it is not.
Now you can start to scold me the most rude words.

Such a pity that you make a good point with the importance of funding and then proceed being rude. "Canadian holidays"? That's an insult to any hard-working athlete like Zhenya. If you really believe she has been constantly regressing since last season I have to assume you've been watching most of her performances with your eyes closed. Last season was tough for sure, neither her nor Orser are magicians but this season the improvements are becoming visible. I would agree that she currently has trouble putting all improvements together into one competition but she's getting there. No need to change coaches again and make another 180° turn that would put her into the same situation she was in the beginning of last season.

I hope to God this is not true and that this guy is not dangerous. I did not know this Vadim character was deaf and dumb. One might think How could somebody with those handicaps in life be a danger? He can't hear or speak. I feel for Aliona without question.

Awww that happens to be one of the cutest pictures ever. It's nice to see Alena enjoying herself.

The on your daughter's face is precious. :) ;) Awww.

Yes she seemed so happy and free from all pressure.

You can search and check. It's no secret. By the way, recently joined the company "Red square". Does the name Arkady Rothenberg mean anything to you?

It’s the first time I hear that statement and I couldn’t find anything about it so I hoped you’d be able to provide a reliable source. And no, haven’t heard this name before.

The only sponsors I know about are Nike and Pantene (and Edea and John Wilson of course).

Medo has enough support from the fed to keep her in the team. There is no way to lose funding. Even if there will be some financional issues, she can start a gofundme campaign or something like that. I'm sure that will be more than enough to keep her afloat. Plus she has contracts with sponsors

It's very hard for me to choose words when I'm nervous. Why apologize ten times and walk around the subject in circles. I know so adopted in Europe and America. The main thing is to be polite and point out mistakes very gently.
I live in Russia. Winter in a snowstorm is not up to sentiment.

Evgenia Medvedev is the pride of my country. And I'm unbalanced by her current state.

I will not restrain myself... Orser has become toxic to me. He ruined Zhenya, he's destroying Hanyu now. He can't land a jump like he used to. Gogolev already understood this. Soon you will understand it too.
I don't see any improvement in Zhenya. Good and suitable programs too. I don't like her dresses. Maybe I have bad taste.
Light airy cheerful girl turned into a hunted beast. She's trying to show that it's not, that it's OK. That she did everything right. But I don't think so.
"Canadian holidays" are still very soft.

Please give me the link for skating where it became better than it was in Crystal.

Rostelecom I believe is a government owned company, and russian skating federation is heavily sponsored by Rostelecom. When we talk about government funding, I believe funding by Rostelecom qualifies for that term.
I‘m not quite sure about the details, but that’s what I heard.

About the tabloid news on Alyona and the stalker - now I am really starting to worry.

I was at the competition and we noticed many heavily armed policemen especially on the second day.
Also, on the first day the security guys just checked the bags and the tickets, but on the second and third day they used metal detectors as well.
Maybe there was some additional concern for the second day?
Or maybe we are just paranoid and it's normal to take precautions when 8000 spectators gather in an arena, especially in France.

I just hope that this man stays away from Alyona and the others and that his mental health is taken care of.

Even if every single you word you wrote is true (and I don't believe it is) Zhenya has chosen this path. She has a right to do what makes her happy. It might not make anyone else happy (I don't believe that either) but she deserves to make her own choices, decisions, mistakes etc. She is ultimately the only one who has to live with the consequences.

She could have chosen differently and she might still do so at some point in the future. But different does not mean better. This is her journey and sometimes it takes years to see what time and your own courage will make of it.

I sympathize with some of what you are saying. Right now Shoma's choices are killing me :( I want him to find a good coaching situation so badly. But it is his life. Whether I understand it or not. The least I can is support him whether I think he made the right decision or not.

I'm not comparing Zhenya's choices to Shoma's. I'm comparing the way I feel about Shoma's choices to the way you seem to feel about Zhenya's.

Stay warm and safe in the winter storm.

Interesting, where did you get that information?
There is no information about Rostelecom. You could say they sponsor her indirect since Rostelecom is the sponsor from the Rusfed. But they do it for all members of the National Team.

The only sponsors I know about are Nike and Pantene (and Edea and John Wilson of course).
+She has also made cooperations with Japanese brands Rivaland and Aniplex.
Her revenue according to Forbes from June 1 2018 to May 31 2019 was 0,7 million dollar.

Rusfed made a statement last season.
ABOUT RUSSIAN FIGURE SKATING FEDERATION EXPENCES ON EVGENIA MEDVEDEVA'S TRAINING IN CANADA

Last year, the President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation of Russia Alexander Gorshkov, responding to questions from the media, said that neither the Russian Ministry of Sport nor the Russian Federation of Figure Skating do not pay for the services of a new coach, Eugenia Medvedeva, Canadian Brian Orser, but they cover the costs of Evgenia's training in the same aspects and in the same amount as the other skaters of the main National team. This includes travel of the athlete and coach for competitions and control events held by the Federation, provision of equipment (boots, skates), costumes for trainings and competitions, payment for choreography of competitive programs, rental of housing located close to training sites and, if necessary, payment consultation and treatment. All this is dozens of times less than who knows where the "fantastic" amount of 6 million rubles a month comes from. And in this regard, it is absolutely incomprehensible to whom and for what purpose it was necessary to spread deliberately false information, linking it with the formation of the Russian team for participation in the upcoming World Championship in Japan. I would like to remind the newly-minted “specialists” that figure skating is not football and not hockey, therefore, unfortunately, our athletes have not even dreamed of the amount of 6 million a month!

The first 3 GP gold medalist were Scherbakova, Trusova and Kostornaia, in this exact order. Now comes Cup of China and is Scherbakova's turn again. I really can't see anyone else winning gold in the next 3 GP. Then comes Rostelecom and Trusova, then NHK and Kostornaia. If they land the quads and trixels even with some falls, they still win because they have enough left to compensate. I wish Liza or Alina had a chance for gold but they don't. Even if they skate clean, they can't win. So, we already know who is going to be on the podium at GPF, the only thing we don't know yet is in which order. So... is there a chance that any of this 3 girls, with 2 GP golds each and a GPF medal, won't make the team? Only if injured, otherwise the team is set. I can only dream about Liza or Alina to make the team. If Liza didn't make it last year, with 3 GP medals, I can't see how she could make it this year with almost 0 chances for the GPF. But Alina.... she is the Olymic and World champion en titre... I think it would put her down and she really doesn't deserve this. Oh, Russia, what have you done??

Ice is slippery, I would not count anyone in or out of podium contention. The 3A are not always perfect and they should not be expected to always be perfect. They will have their good days and their bad days. On the bad days, other skaters may be able to beat them and that is ok. They are human and will make mistakes. Russia hasn’t done anything wrong either. In fact many would argue that they are doing something right. Majority of their national team is very decorated with medals from many events. Their national team has three world champions, a two time junior world champion, and two junior world champion silver medalists. Russia has found a way to to make the competition in their country so intense that it makes their girls better prepared for international competitions. In my opinion this competition is a good thing and we are watching history taking place in russian ladies figure skating. Part of being in competition like this is having to “catch up” to others. If everyone did the same jumps all the time, then skating would not be as exciting to watch. Alina and Zhenya are both “catching up” and it will take time, but with their work ethics, I believe that they can do it.

Medvedeva parted ways with Tutberidze more or less like Virtue-Moir with Zueva. They both complained that their coach preferred in Olympic season someone other.
Medvedeva did a good choice when she went to Orser because anyway she did not have any bright future in Tutberidze group. In Canada she meets important people, gets into new society and has more possibilities when she one day finishes her career. It’s a smart move and investment to the future.
About the possibilities of Alina and Zhenya in the era of 3 A-s - probably 3 A-s fill the podium in Russian nationals and I think Alina will be 1st substitute and 2nd if Tuktamysheva or Zhenya, not yet clear who. Life is anyway unpredictable. If there comes injury, illness, bad skate – things can change. Last year – even if it sounds horrible - Medvedeva got her chance because of Tuktamysheva’s pneumonia, and of course because of Konstatinova’s bad skate.
But next season is maybe more interesting. We don’t know how it goes with Trusova’s and Scherbakova’s puberty. Kostornaya already went through it?

Hanyu seems to be doing just fine, what are you talking about?

Zhenya's Skate Canada FS was beautiful, she nailed all her jumps, if it wasn't for her disastrous SP she would have been on the podium.

Zhenya went to Canada and Orser because she obviously felt there was no way she could continue to grow as a skater with Eteri, and it cant be easy for her. Everything is different, new coaching style, new training regime, new jump techniques, new country, new language.

I think she's doing pretty well considering what a huge change she has made.
Zhenya is obviously working extremely hard to fix her technique and this can take a long time. But when in competition you can see her revert back to her old Eteri one, especially her 2A. Most Eteri girls have that same weak 2A, apart from Alyona of course.

I don't know why you feel the need to describe her coaching choice as a "Canadian holiday"
That's very insulting towards her.

It’s harsh words to say Canadian’s Holidays. Hanyu and Zhenia both aged, they can’t be number one like before but still can be competitive.
You forget that Zhenia was standing on the podium at worlds last saison and nobody expected that turn of event so I don’t want to predict. Maybe there will be a surprising winner for next worlds or olympic.

What scenarios would let Zhenya go to GPF with a Silver at Rostelecom? It doesn't seem farfetched if she got gold (from moriel's analysis) but I really can't imagine Trusova falling enough for that to happen.

I think Zhenia couldn’t bear the pressure anymore and this is why she left Eteri. She needed change in her life and training. I’m sure she made a wise decision, Orser is a good coach, when she skates clean she can medal like Alina.

That's what I said, wise decision. You mean which medal's, which competitions?
