2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

It seems to me that Sasha grew? Her legs seem longer to me. I think it fits her well-makes her look more elegant while skating.

While I still don't like Zhenya's performing style, I have to say she improved at skating skills and speed, and it makes watching her quite nice. Also I thought it was very classy of her to calm down the audience for Maria to be able to concentrate before her skate. She seems way more humble to me this season, which makes her very sympathical. Well done and good luck for the FS to all the ladies!!

Yes, Medvedeva has so far effectively blocked out Bell and Miyahara from GPF. Is it wrong of me that I want Zhenya to let Bell get the silver tomorrow? I really want Bell to be in the GPF, I'm loving her this season.:slink:

Zhenya wouldn't really be the one to block Satoko. Mariah needs a silver, so Zhenya blocks her. Satoko only needs a bronze, so Mariah, if she claims bronze, would be the one to block Satoko. What would be interesting is if the final results end up being:

1. Zhenya
2. Sasha
3. Mariah
4. Satoko

Zhenya would qualify herself into GPF, knocking out Satoko, Bradie, Liza, Mariah in tiebreakers. Sasha will most likely not let herself lose though so

I keep reminding myself these Russian ladies well most are girls are people. And I hate saying that imho Stanislava has not held up well and with the vast richness of skaters really she kind of has lost her chance it would appear. I mean when Evgenia and Liza are really an afterthought for the Russian team that says a lot. The pressure all these ladies must be under thinking I must perform; I must get a quad if I want to compete at worlds is pretty intense. Can you imagine how intense and microspic views we take - for them they must feel every flinch every turn, every spin and rotation in the air is like life or death. One slip and we literally might never see them again competing. Can you imagine being the darling for a year or two and then pushed out by the next phenom. Yulia, Adelina, Elena, Anna P, Evgenia, Alina all world medalists seem to be pushed out
And most countries would give everything to have skaters like zhenya, Liza, yulia etc.

Yeah, she grew quite a lot it seems.
Aliona said that while she was recovering from her injury she grew by 7 or 8 cm, which made getting her jumps back after coming back a little more challenging,
and considering that Sasha is still taller, looks like Sasha grew by a significant amount as well!

If that where to happen I would ask if this wasn't a dream, but inalso do not think that it will happen. But then again anything can happen in this sport. Let's just hope for clean skates from the Russian ladies

It is not the criticism itself that bothers me, I think there are ways to offer criticism while still having respect for the person you are giving it to.

It is the way some people criticize, in a confrontational and sometimes quite nasty tone. That is not fair and constructive criticism, it is 9 times out of 10 just simple bashing.

So I suppose people do get defensive too quickly sometimes

But do not think that Sasha is a little stupid girl. I heard that Sasha and Alena were very unhappy when Zhenya moved them at the end of the Gala after the last Russian championship. It really didn't look pretty.
.

I‘m sorry, I do not understand. Zhenya moved them at the Gala? What do you mean? :scratch2:

As for the rest... I don‘t believe Sasha is stupid. Looking up to Zhenya doesn‘t make her stupid. Then again, she said that a few seasons ago when she was still a junior, that one of the reasons she came to Eteri was to train with Evgenia. Maybe this has changed and Zhenya’s not her direct role model anymore, she’s 15 and has grown a lot after all; things like that change, that‘s normal and totally okay. What I do think is nice is that the girls seem to get along so well, they‘ve shown nothing but sportsmanship so far. Makes me very happy as a fan. :)

As for Zhenya fans not accepting criticism... you know, I can only talk about myself here but for me it depends on the kind of criticism. If I see it as genuine, well-meant advice and criticism, I‘m totally open to it and like discussing it! You should have seen me freak out in Zhenya‘s fanfest when I thought Brian and her had gone back to the 3 3Lz layout. I was so angry at them it was quite embarrassing. So, anyway, I disagree that Zhenya fans in general are not able to take criticism. I, and I think many might agree with me here, personally just don‘t appreciate when comments are belittling, condescending or downright mean. Some of them in this thread are, unfortunately. This is what I don‘t like and will speak up against. That‘s all.

It is an interesting scenario though. And not completely impossible as Sasha is sick. If so, Medvedeva beating Trusova will go to history as the most unlikely event ever.

She is also polishing her moves and getting more stretch it seems. Really impressed with her commitment to pushing herself to get better in all areas of her skating, she is developing into a fine young lady.
She is also in amazing shape, Sasha is super toned and strong!

I hope this is a breakthrough for Zhenya, even if just a personal one. We are seeing some of the changes and improvements she has been making start to come together in competition.
It has been there in practice but she's struggled with her confidence and reverting to old ways in competition.

I hope all the ladies can skate well tomorrow.

Sasha I hope joins Anna in two GP victories and the final.

Zhenya...wouldn't it be something if she could win, just to see the reaction to that from her, Brian, everyone in fact would be... mind blowing. But... I think she would be very happy with silver. Her expectations are more realistic I'm certain.

I do hope Stasya can stay on her feet and have a decent FS, she needs it if only for her own personal well being. She was in tears after her SP, she knows her chances in Russia are slipping away.

 :yes2:

I tried to say the same thing but not quite as eloquently and good as you did!

Zhenya...wouldn't it be something if she could win

Yes, that would be something. I guess if Sasha is sick they might ease her program tomorrow to only two quads, maybe just one. If that's the case - it's game on!! Zhenya can do it!

That would be soemthing no one would think could happen. I think I would freak out out of happiness for zhenya, even if the chance is almost zero, but if Sasha is sick and That is what I hear to, and she did seem to struggle a bit today in the combo, to add 4 quads which takes a lot out of the body, I say sash is someone who would still want to go for those 4 quads even if she is sick, question is will her body say the same. I just wish for both if them clean skates and for stasya too

Look at 1-49-30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJQVhgAI29M
Zhenya stands on the left, pushes herself in front of Alena and again stands on the left, Sasha after quad tries to stand to the left of Zhenya, but Zhenya moves her, wants to be the first to start moving around the rink. Clever Anna even changed her mind to go there, although according to the plan she had to lead everyone. Sinitsin and Katsalapov solve the problem in their own way)))))

Video not available for me, that's what it says when I click on it I do not doubt what you are saying happens on it,
I am just letting you know I cannot see it

It's a very interesting scenario. But would Eteri have Sasha scale down her program enough because Sasha is not 100% which could allow her former star pupil Zhenya to take gold? It is very interesting. No one really knows what the great coach is feeling or if she's over Evgenia suddenly leaving her.

Сonspiracy theology.

Sasha pretends to be sick and simplifies the program or easily falls.
Zhenya wins. Final of 5 Russians.
Rusfed shows everyone in ISU that if necessary, Russians can play as a team (girls can calculate their TSS + - 1).
And next year we will win everything in general and everywhere in this way.
Or everyone should close their eyes when we need it.

she was over it a long time ago, mkay. :rolleye:
I find the implications that Eteri would do anything 'for'/'against' Evgenia to be quite ridiculous
Eteri only does what's best for her students, the rest is not her concern.

This whole discussion is very amusing for me. Do you really think Sasha and her coaches would take out enough quads for Zhenya to win? I don’t think so. They want to take gold at all the GPs. If she is ill she might not do the full 4 quads but then again, she did them in practice as well and many more after the runthrough. I‘m guessing they‘ll do what they need to do to win. Nothing more, nothing less. I‘m (obviously lol) a big Zhenya fan but I‘m not even thinking of a win right now, that’s just too far out of reach, imo. I am just hoping she skates cleanly and has a skate she can be proud of and happy with. I‘m hoping she will medal, of course but it‘s not important what the color is. Maybe it‘s because I got over her not making GPF after SCI already, so I‘m pretty calm about it. It‘s not gonna happen so for now I‘m hoping for clean skates and SBs only. But yes, it would be something if Zhenya won against Sasha. But the amount of things that would have to happen for this to come true is just so gigantic that I‘m not even considering it.

I just hope the girls skate well tomorrow and can stand on the podium together. :)

I second that.
Eteri is a grown woman and although there was a lot if drama at the time, I'm sure neither of them think of new ways to get back at each other. It is in the past, and I think they are over it now and even respect each other.

Zhenya is doing what she feels is right for her and concentrating on that.
Eteri probably understands this and she has her own current students to guide and focus on
