2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Bradie has fast become my favorite US lady because she is so steady and determined. Even after that freak fall in Warsaw, she kept her wits about her and managed to score as many points as she could to make up for the lost lutz combo.
 
Watching the recap highlights of sectionals and regionals on the U.S. Figure Skating YouTube channel. About the ladies: I saw some familiar names. Glad that Paige Rydberg is headed back to senior nationals, glad that Haley Beavers is going to junior nationals (even though I think she’s 18 or 19). But tbh, the competition didn’t look very fierce and I have a feeling many skaters will struggle to reach a total score of , say, 170. The top skater in junior ladies nationals is still a toss up, imo.

That's so interesting. She mentions she's not used to training on a daily basis with really high level athletes. I wonder if she would benefit from a coaching/environment change in order to realize her artistic potential. I do like her and I'm rooting for both her, Mariah, and Alysa.
 
I hope Bradie, Starr, Ting, Hanna, Gracie, Amber, and Karen skate well at nationals and all feel more confident in themselves:clap:
 
Today USOPC announced the entire YOG team (96 members).

For "women's" figure skating, Hanna Harrell and Audrey Shin.
Of age-eligible women/ladies, they had the second and third highest NQS scores (after Alysa).

Haley Beavers did not qualify for 2020 Nats.

She placed eighth in Senior Ladies at Eastern Sectionals.

Still pretty far off, but honestly looks like she could get this. Would be really something if she gets it.

Isabelle trains at the same rink as bradie I believe, as well as calista. So maybe there aren’t other senior level athletes but still, imo these girls are quite high-level. I mean Isabelle is throwing quads. I assume these girls will transition to seniors within the next couple years.
 
Isabelle has a bright future if she keeps up what she’s doing. Her, Calista, and Elsa all train with Bradie and I think they will push each other. Isabelle’s 4T attempts are still under, but I think she’ll get it by next season.

For me, I'd like to know how Gracie looks skating side-by-side with Bradie and Mariah. In particular, how her speed and the sharpness of her technical elements compare with international-calibre skaters. Her PCS was roughly the same as the other top competitors at Regionals and Sectionals, so I wonder if she can break out of that pack and regain her previous form.

Rotation isn't all the way there but it's a solid attempt and I'm sure she'll land it cleanly soon. I wouldn't be surprised by a 3a or any other quads in the near future too! Hope she's working on her other elements too!

Under, but very good attempt. I think with more improvements, especially speed, she’ll be able to rotate the jump. She’s been landing off ice 3A’s but has not shown it off on ice yet. I think a 4S in the Free might be her team’s plan for Nationals.

This is very impressive, but I hope she’s spending just as much time on her skating skills and program components as she is on jumps. She has similar issues and strengths as Alysa and I worry she’ll find herself in the same situation of being behind in PCS when she makes her JGP debut. Obviously Alysa has done very well so far :) but she’s constantly critiqued for her speed etc.
When I watch Mia I see similar problems. Wish her the best of luck though and the quad is getting there. Seems << but wow does it look like something she can get? No. Doubt. About. It!!! Go MIA!!!
 
If Mia rotates and lands 4S whilst skating cleanly, the other junior ladies will have to truly bring their “A” game. Isabeau is currently learning/attempting the 3A and her PCS is quite above the others (except for Calista who is simply beautiful). Plus, Isabeau is consistent and reliable. As for the JGP participants, Isabelle is planning a 3Lz+3T and 3F+3T in the Free but she has yet to put it all together. Lindsay is very consistent but under-rotates. Kate grew so she’s dealing with inconsistency. I think if Calista manages to skate cleanly, she will be able to come out on top. Her skating skills and technique puts her in a different league altogether, it’s a matter of if she can put together two clean skates. All in all, our junior ladies crop is shaping up to be quite interesting.

Isabeau is learning/attempting 3a?

I haven't heard much about Calista lately. Is she still attempting pairs and singles? How's pairs going for her?

Not a lot of new info... but some takeaways:
  • Her interaction with Kamila after her free was adorable. "Good job!" :) This is hopefully the start of a long-lived rivalry/friendship.
  • She did two 4Lzs and two 3As "just for the fun of it"
  • The story of her free skate is "We're stepping into a new world and I discover the sky and the stars … And then I see stardust as I do my footwork."
  • She is well aware of her weaknesses "Failure allows you to learn what you need to improve. One big thing I learnt here is that everything matters. Even if you do all your elements, one detail can ruin your score. I will need to focus more on details and get as many points as possible everywhere."
