2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

I adore Alysa. She would do two lutzes and two 3As for the fun of it.

The first thing she did when she got to Italy was hit the gelato and post about it. Such a fun, happy little person.... with killer jumps!

I guess if each lady goes to Nats with their own goal they can learn to live and enjoy skating. For example the comment being about A. Shin's last chance. True in some ways but if she loves skating hopefully she finds joy just making Nats. I am hoping Gracie is taking it that way though I am hopeful she may return to her former glory - sadly that won't be all that great compared to everyone else. I won't deny watching Gracie kind of breaks my heart; i miss that power, that amplitude and confidence she had before. Kind of like seeing your parents get old. But you just hope they are happy.

I think Bradie looks good for gold. Unless she has a melt down i just sense they will hold her in for the second spot. She is a solid skater and works hard upping the content. She could be a Rachel Flatt or that US woman who I honestly had to look up Kimmie Meissner who won gold in 2006 - really good solid hardworking skaters with big tricksand some consistency. But they don't have that je ne sais quoi. Even with falls a Sasha Cohen has star power. Some people just have that it power. I am not sure it can be taught. Bradie, Polna, Kimmie,Rachel, Holly Cook, Emily Hughes kind of remind me of ths "type" of American skater who are very good just not special even if with huge tricks. Still Braide could sneak on to that podium at worlds.

A lot would have to go wrong for others for Braide to have a chance of making it onto the worlds podium and she seriously needs to work on those underrotations. She leaves too many points on the table and that's the reason despite her consistency that she seems to have reached a cap on PCS, the judges aren't going to give her more than they already have.

Audrey Shin competed in Senior Ladies at sectionals. At Pacific Coast sectionals, her score would have placed second; at Midwestern sectionals, it would have placed third.
At Eastern sectionals, Audrey placed sixth, and she did not advance to Nats this year.

I am thrilled for Audrey to go to YOG, and I hope that she has a blast. :yay:

I do not think it will be her last chance for anything.
IMO, no one who is just fifteen years old deserves such negativity.

I agree that I hope Gracie is enjoying the journey and that she gets back to her former ability. I was pretty skeptical at first, but am more hopeful now. However, I have to disagree that if she gets to her prior form she won’t be that great. Will she be competitive with the Russian teenagers, no, but no one is really. I would definitely think she would still be In the mix behind the Russian 3 if she was how she was in her prime.
I also have mixed feelings, I thought watching her at regionals was sad, but I thought watching her at sectionals was uplifting and the improvements were big. If she has that same improvement curve at Nationals, I don’t think Nationals will be disappointing for her. However, I hope the media lays off of her and just lets her compete.
As far as top competitors, my fav is Mariah Bell. I appreciate how nice she skates and she seems to genuinely love it. I am not a Bradie fan but like that she is consistent. I know I will get flack, but I am also not a big fan of Alysa Liu. More power for trying the elements but her skating is so labored. I feel the same way about Trusova, though I like kostornia a lot.
I actually think this will be an exciting Nationals, there are a lot of people that I think could be anywhere from 4-10. I am excited I am going!

I think that comment was more about the issues she’s had with USFS in the past— some case where she was suspended a few years ago, and she may have tried out skating for China this summer?

I thought she was Korean. I don’t remember her ever being off the ISP.

I will assume that you have confused Audrey with another skater.

I have never heard anything about Audrey being suspended.

And have never heard anything about Audrey having any interest in skating for China.

ETA:

At the beginning of this season, USFS selected Audrey for its Emerging Athletes Program. (The other ladies selected for this season: Liu, Harrell, Izzo.)

Out of curiosity in what scenario do you see that Bradie could sneak on the podium at Worlds?

With all good humor and respect, I can come up with one: The Russian ladies decide that medaling at Worlds is passe and really just too easy, so they organize their own SUPER Worlds competition, and all of the Russian senior ladies are eligible for it, and choose to compete there for the supreme honors, along with the other 3A and quadster skaters from other countries, foregoing plain ol' easy Worlds. Voila! the other athletes get a chance at the podium, and Bradie sneaks on there. ;)

No insult meant to any skaters here -- just a humorous take on the true paradigm shift we are seeing in women's skating right now.

Serious answer is that russian federation only sends two of Kostornaya, Trusova, Shcherbakova, the 3rd russian skater doesn podium, Rika Kihira doesn't podium, Elizabet Tursynbayeva is still out or not doing her 4S, other Japanese skaters have a hard time. (but this is all so unlikely)

in terms of scoring potential, russian ladies occupy 6 of the top ten, but only 3 can be there at worlds, so if something crazy happens and bradie has the skate of her life, it's possible? also this is just one way

Ahhh I'm so sorry! I must have had a serious brain cloud, lol. I was thinking of Emily Zhang who won Eastern Sectionals. I have no idea how I mixed them up. Her surname is obviously Korean, that's embarrassing :palmf:

The way the top 3 ladies skated in the GPF, I can't see Bradie on the podium even if she goes clean. However, I DO think it's possible for the US to get that 3rd spot back. 5th and 8th and we're good.

i think the highest Bradie or Mariah could place is 5th. everyone would really have to bomb in order for one of them to get on the podium. but i think getting 3 spots back is very realistic if both of them skate clean.

I think Bradie's SP this season is getting her a lot of positive attention...? Or maybe it's just my attention lol.

That's also what I'm thinking. There is clearly a top tier that would be hard to break into (3A + Rika) but Bradie, Mariah, two Japanese women, and a handful of others (Young You, etc.) could place in any order.

Yes, and it would be great if they both skate well as I'm afraid that one of them will be knocked off by Alysa next season. I'd hate to see that happen.

Alysa can't skate as a senior internationally until the 2021-2022 season.
