2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Guess you didn't see the ridiculous points RusFed gave to the winner in SP here. Well, Gorshkov did say that they "would try to abide by sporting principles", after all; alas - they tried, but failed :)

I really would like an explanation on what you found so ridiculous. Especially considering the general inflation for most of the ladies...

Alyona's 3A is just getting better and better. Overall execution was also the best she's ever done this season. Perfection. So beautiful.

Sasha was lovely, I was very pleasantly surprised just how much she has put into improving performance-wise, her SP shows off her softer side so well.

Really, I like Sasha, she‘s adorable and just an amazing girl. But her skating is just not 35 PCS worthy yet, imo. I‘m not angry about it, though, it‘s Nationals and I expected it. She skated very well after all.

I thought Guliakova would score higher

She got an e call on the Lutz, so she lost at least 3 points there.
It's strange that her Lutz is so wonky, as she is coached by Mishin who is known for his technical genius.
But then again, Sofia has a bad Lutz as well.

What a terrible thing to say about the queen of coaches! First of all Eteris personal favorite has to be Anna because she's coached her for 12 years and Anna is like her third daughter. :) ;) it's so early in these three girls careers there's no reason to be bitter yet just because Alyiona is the best skater in the world.
Nothing terrible. Practical. Kostornaya is a product of evolution. Slow and methodical.
Trusova is a child of revolution. She is the revolution. But we have here the fight between the reliability and the probability.

Care to actually point out the reasons why you find Alena score ridiculous? That her pcs should have been similar to Alexandra?

The scores don't really matter as much, we all know it would be a bit insane.
Still, I see her improvements and feel she deserves praise for it, as she wasn't simply relying on her jumps in that SP.

Big surprise of the event: Anna Frolova changed coach last minute and went to CSKA with Davydov.

Probably a smart move.

Perhaps Sinitsyna will switch to Khrustalniy? I sort of have a premonition.

Of course Aliona was overscored. But this is Nationals. And it WAS the best she’s ever skated that SP, the best she’s ever landed that 3A. So... Most ladies got PCS and GOEs through the roof. Sasha got almost 35 PCS. It was to be expected.

Honestly after years of Rus fed giving over inflated pcs to undeserved skaters in past nationals, 38 pcs for Alena seems perfectly reasonable now.

Same. Not going for the 3A this time was a good decision. That was definitely her best performance of the SP. In fact, she should just go for a clean skate for the free, as well. This isn’t Worlds. A clean 3-quad free skate will score higher than a messy attempt with 5.

I think you might be on to something. She doesn't seem particular happy at the moment and hasn't been performing as well as earlier in the season.

Frolova was very good, looks like her coaching change made a positive difference.

Alyona is deservedly in first place. And if she skated light out tomorrow I do not know if Sasha could beat her. I am scared for zhenya who will skate tomorrow again on a broken boot. I at this point I so do not care in which place she ends after all, the thing I care about is that she comes out of this nationals without injury.

Fabulous skating love all the girls ❤️ I'd love to know how the group dynamic works in Eteri's group, do they all fight for top spot & motivate themselves.... In the US I don't think a skating school would have so many top skaters, I don't think parents would want it...

Sasha can be very stubborn but I think she is actually listening to her coaches more and learning when to take the risks and when not to.
We will see which Sasha skates tomorrow, the risk taker or the skate clean and sensible one.

I don't think it would score that internationally, not yet anyway. But not far off, probably still higher than GPF.

no, but this is nationals with national scoring. happens the same with US nationals, and it's normal. Aliona's score would equate to probably 86 internationally, which is nothing crazy or outrageous. her best and the WR is 85.
