Quite a contradiction you've got going on there...? If you have no proof then how do you know she isn't training?
And considering in the last year she has had what, broken ribs, concussion, ankle problems (was in a boot around christmas time) and pneumonia before nationals - yeah, she probably isn't in peak form at the moment.

She likely isn't training to the standard she used to, but after all those problems it is hardly surprising and absolutely not her fault.

In my previous post, I in no way meant to imply it’s here fault.

I mentioned I don’t have proof as I’m not personally watching all training sessions at her rink. However, other things I’m aware of have made it pretty clear she’s not really invested.

Gabby in her present physical condition and mental outlook is unpredictable. We all thought she would improve in the 3 months since SC, but she actually skated worse at Nationals than she did at SC. There is just 2 months to Worlds, and there is zero guarantee that Gabby would perform better in March. If she went to Worlds in similar condition as she is in now, she might not even make the FS, which would be the worst disaster possible, both for Gabby and for Canada.

I believe Emily and Alison can perform well enough to keep the two spots for Canada.

To be honest, I would be shocked if Canada keeps two spots.

Kaiya, no? How many spots does Canada have for JW? Kaiya should be there no matter what IMO. She has a huge amount of potential and has probably improved the most between the beginning of the season and now getting a 3Lz+3T.

Kaiya really would have won seniors had she competed in it. I’m upset we don’t get to send her to senior Worlds since I feel like she would fare better.

Really disappointed in the ladies today but I’m glad Emily won since she’s clearly the best technician (the only one who showed a 3-3) although Alison had good elements too. Good on Madeline for getting 3rd too.

This Worlds is going to be a bust but I think Gabby deserves a shot - even though that was probably one of her worst skates ever.

Alicia is exquisite too - reminds me of Mariah Bell - and started strong but it fell apart quickly.

Even with Nationals scoring the champion got 175 points. I knew the ladies were in a rebuilding phase but that was bad. Ruiter was a nice glimpse of future potential for Canadian ladies.

"Not really invested" does seem to imply she isn't trying, I'm not sure that is the case at all. More like she is unable to train properly because of her issues.

Like I said in another post, at what point do Skate Canada stop sending Gabby to these big competition over others?
She was 8th at Nationals, 8th! Probably should have been even lower as she was very overscored in the short.

It is not fair on Gabby or the others to expect her to prop up Canadian ladies skating, especially when it has become very obvious she is in no position to do so.

It is probably time to focus on the younger girls, invest in and support them more and accept things are going to tough for a while.

Competing in poor health and continuing to struggle with bad performances is not good for Gabby's physical or mental well-being either, continuing to send her to these competitions I fear will only make things worse.

Probably ... but the other girls don't have a shot at worlds and the number of places of canada for next year will suffer with that ... we have russia, usa, japan, korea probably kazakistan... wich probably means that the first placement of canada with luck will be 10-12 place ... with gabby is a wild card but probably she can be in the top 10 maybe with very lucky i the top 6 if she skates super clean ... I don't know the other ladies very well but if canada wants a good placement for keeping spots they need to send gaby .. even if is unfair ... for the 4cc i think they can send the first 3 ... for worlds they need her

Gabby has no shot at Worlds unless something absolutely crazy happens. She hasn't skated anywhere close to competitive on the international level all season, and if you look at her career individual competition results (excluding team competitions since the only real serious 1 is the Olympics) - she has 4 medals from international senior competitions spanning 7 seasons - if you look at all her other international competitions, she's mid-pack finisher and never even finished on the podium at a GP event. The Canadian Fed needs to get some of their other ladies international skating experience, and given Gabby's body of work there's no reason to ignore the results of Nationals.

Evelyn and Trennt are my go to hightlight so far. The improvement to their skating and presentation skills is :jaw: from where they were earlier this season. Their hard work and efforts are paying off as evident by their Trankow trained triple twist. What an amazing competition for both.

Right now I would say there is a worry that a Canadian woman even makes it to the free skate.
Hopefully this is the kick in the pants Skate Canada needs to start investing in women's skating. I'm a bit concerned that what's happened to Gabby (being used to prop up skating to the detriment of her wellbeing) will happen to Kaiya as well. Skate Canada needs to get itself together.

It's a tremendous load of responsibility for one person to bear (being the 'savior' of Canadian ladies FS). It is SO much easier being the chaser than the chased.

Loved catching the Canadian Nationals. Very happy for Piper and Paul. Sad for Lubov and Charlie. That LP is perfect for Worlds in Montreal. Evelyn and Trennt had a great competition but I am concerned that they will not be able to contribute to Canada keeping at least 2 teams for next year's Worlds. I know young teams need a chance but maybe Worlds should be decided after 4 Continents?

Who saw that men's result coming! Wow, so happy for Roman. Gutted for Keegan though, that was such a tough program to get through.

I mean W/M help keep two teams last year??and they improved a bunch since then

I did, I've been saying it for awhile now. And even more so after his podium result at NHK earlier.

OMG Roman! Does that mean he will get the lone men's spot for Worlds, or are there other criteria that Skate Canada takes into account?

AHH...is Roman going to be the representative for men for this year's worlds now???...or is that not worthy of discussion???...

Yeah, hardcore. I was shocked at how improved their twist and their SBS jumps were here, even compared to earlier in the season. There's no reason at all why they shouldn't be sent to Worlds, though I'm okay with the idea of 4CC serving as a skate off for the second spot. But I will ride the Walsh/Michaud Future World Champions train until either they win or I die, so yes please always send them to worlds.
