Yuzuru Hanyu Will Compete With His 2017-18 SP & FS At 4CC

Yet more repetition. Four times now for Chopin. Sigh.

My first reaction was: why. What the.

My second reaction was: I think Yuzuru wants redemption for what happened at NHK. Even so, he's going to do these programs in a THIRD season!?

He needs to get new programs. Chopin and Seimei are both amazing and legendary but this is too much, most everyone else is getting at least 1 new program every year.

A bit odd..maybe it is safer to push the technical limit when performing two of his best programs? Is it confirmed though?

It's on his official ISU bio.

I kind of don't mind seeing "Seimei" again, but Chopin for the fourth time is a bit much; if he wanted to change things up mentally, could he not have brought back that amazing Prince program that he never managed a clean performance of?

Yes the tweet is from a Japanese news agency I trust Kyodo News. Apparently there was a documentary last night about Hanyu’s 4CC journey.

Personally I wonder what he hopes to achieve by doing this. Is it to increase his chances to win? Because it wasn’t the programs it was his consistency and changing mid season seems to me to be counterproductive. However as he’s won almost everything I sort of, in my own mind, see him beyond caring about winning.

Unlike Dance the rules don’t require skaters to change at least one of their programs so I’m interested to see how this affects his PCS especially.

It’s a real shame Uno, Zhou, and Chen aren’t at 4CC as in the Men’s event this is Worlds Part One.

He clearly cares a lot about winning; he's an extremely competitive person.

My guess would be that the disappointments at the GPF and nationals back-to-back mean that he thinks switching programs will change his mindset; Medvedeva did that with the short program last season, for instance.

(deep sigh) As y'all have said, Chopin for the 4th time is too much. I can live with Seimei (helps that it's my favourite free program of his), but Chopin... And the fact that he was reusing his programs from last season doesn't help, it highlights one of Yuzuru's few shortcomings - he recycles too much.

It seems to me that Yuzuru is trying to channel his Olympic self by using his Olympic programs, but as much as I adore the man I have to say the problem was with his consistency, not the programs. Yuzuru is nothing if not competitive and of course he wants to finally get his 4CC gold medal, but it would've been the same if he had used Otoñal and Origin. And I'm personally disappointed that I don't get to see Otoñal live.

Yuzuru will do as he pleases and nothing is going to stop that, but yet another choice of his that I don't agree with goes on the list. (deep, deep sigh)

Just dropping back to say I can think of two reasons...

And the most likely makes me sad and will make the accountants even sadder.

He's been using the Chopin at official trainings to feel the right tempo for his quads- that program is an absolute comfort zone for him for the quads success. And Seimei is a signature program for him. Should it let him land 4A successfully I wouldn't mind to see it again. He is a person whose skating is a mission to lift the spirit of people watching him and admiring him, giving the hope and courage to fight with their life issues- being personal or nationwide or worldwide ones. It could also mean that he may retire after this. So I am surprised that nobody is considering this and people basically criticize him when he needs a bit of support from all of us. His last two seasons were basically struggling with injuries consequences, misunderstandings with his main coach, his free programs choreographer muse leaving to live in USA and being more and more available to lift up his rivals, his federation making a lot of different steps to stop his fanbase from freely show their love and support, favoring his competitors even at homeland competitions and judges to stop awarding him starting from Saitama, giving false UR calls and not awarding his clean jumps in comparison to a lavish GOE for his rivals, some with a terrible massive pre-rotational "quads". He is a human being, not a superhero. He does all that he can to perform his best.
Why everyone is so shy to talk about this- this is also a sign that he may retire after Worlds 2020. Still want to say meh to his music choices? He is using his best programs to say the most beautiful good bye to the sport. I can't believe how hostile the figure skating community has become during the past couple of seasons. I just can't.

Shae-Lynn has been spending considerable time living in South Carolina for a while.
Shae-Lynn would usually spend sometime every year to help Raf skaters like Ashley, Mariah, Brezina, Andrea at Raf’s rink, not just Yuzu’s rival Nathan. They are all clients of Shae-Lynn who treats them seriously.

Plus, Yuzu’s main rival trains mostly on his own in CT, not in Cali.

Can people stop dragging Nathan into this discussion? Nathan is a full time student with very heavy workloads. He hasn’t attend 4CC for two years and is not going this year either.

What favorable treatment Nathan got at Saitama???

Yuzuru is recycling his programs, and Nathan who is not even going to be 4CC, is the reason behind the recycling???

Stop, just stop this. This topic is about Yuzuru's music, not about skaters you drag into discussion. I spoke about Yuzu and reactions to his decision. This is not about the others, it's about his path in the sport.

Before your post, no Nathan fan made any comments about Yuzuru recycling two programs. You drag Nathan and Shae-Lynn into this discussion first, and then you tell Nathan fan to stop commenting on your post. This is not a FF, you dragged others into discussion, of course there would be responses.

He'll just land the 4A at 4CC and then just peace out?

Why not? I hope I'm wrong, but he doesn't owe it to the ISU to keep his fans bankrolling international competitions... and I just have had a feeling this year that he may be feeling more and more willing to hand that job over to someone else.

I can guarantee you Hanyu and his team carefully thought what was most likely to give him the best chance to win I acceptthis. After a whileprograms while great tend to often look similar ie Michelle Kwan - graceful lyrical skater in bun or PC in dance. I wish him well.

Weren't his programs this season already repeats?

Yes, second season for both Otonal and Origin.

Okay, I have to know. Why on earth are there so many people convinced this means the R-word? It makes no logical sense.

bonita I wonder if you know how many skaters actually are active students before you start to use studies as an argument. Being a student is a common thing in figure skating. And no, my post was not directed against others, that's why I never mentioned the names, I just draw a picture.
