Roman SP....

I had trouble connecting to the Internet this morning (there's a MAJOR snowstorm going on right now), and I'm feeling even worse after learning that Roman fell apart in the SP which such a low score. :sad4:

Two-thirds of our dance teams had a really great event. Even after the rhythm dance improvement I was kind of shocked at the score Marjorie & Zach got in the free.

The other...Carolane & Shane really need to change something, at this point.

Somewhat similarly, two-thirds of our guys had a pretty good go of it in the short program. Poor Roman, but he's definitely out of the running for Worlds now.

EDIT: Also, presumably disappointingly for them, with the updated World Standings Piper & Paul are just outside the final RD group at Worlds, behind Guignard & Fabbri; the difference-maker is that the latter did two Challengers this season.

Oh no, this is really not good.

Wait neither Gilles/Poirier or Stepanova/Bukin are in the final RD group? That's interesting, I didn't expect that. I'd say the GPF teams are the clear top six in the world right now with Guignard/Fabbri a close 7th. Although I have a feeling G/F could beat 1 or 2 of them, likely G/P or S/B, in the RD but then fall back to 7th after the free. Oh well, I think Piper and Paul could still make top 5.

I would agree with that ranking. G/F’s being ahead is built largely on them having a much better first half in the 2018/19 season, between the Grand Prix silver and Grand Prix Final bronze. Their rankings for this season are behind G/P, but the latter haven’t quite gained points fast enough to surpass them by Worlds due to the aforementioned Challenger differential (Stepanova/Bukin also did themselves no favours by not doing a Challenger).

I remember hearing that Stepbuk couldn't do any challengers because she had a back injury. They didn't do the Russian test skates either.

The race for Junior Worlds at the Bavarian Open junior dance event is halfway through; Emmy & Aissa are in first among the dance teams, ahead of Natalie & Bruce (who already have a spot confirmed, of course) by a razor-thin margin. Miku & Tyler are a few points back, and then a few points back from them are Nadiia & Peter; Peter unfortunately made a big, visible flub in their step sequence, which may have decided this thing already. He was looking pretty upset in the KnC afterward.

G/P just can't catch a break this year! I can only hope that with them and Stepanova/Bukin in the same earlier flight the judges will be in the mood to give last flight results regardless. Sometimes it does happen if you have a few contenders together in an earlier flight. And the judges are well aware of who was at the GPF, and on the Euros and 4CC podiums.

Which Canadian ladies have the tech minimums for Worlds? Is there time to send them to another competition to try to get the minimums?

Alicia Pineault, Alison Schumacher, Veronik Mallet, Gabrielle Daleman (+ Alaine Chartrand but she's not competing this season)

Alicia is a lock for Worlds spot, she did well in 4CC. Alison also skate much better in free and eventually place higher than Emily. It's sad that the national champion won't be going to Worlds (probably in the men too... Roman... 😥)

I agree - Alicia is definitely looking like the best bet for the spot at Worlds. She should be really proud of how she performed here. All three women did pretty well in the FS, which was good to see. Hopefully the three men will have great FS! :)

Challenge Cup (Netherlands) on 20-23 February. Currently the enty list has a "TBA CAN".
There are competitions (in Bulgaria, Hungary and Estonia) next week-end too but I would guess it would be not imminent in terms of organization.

Would doing a Senior international just before Worlds make the difference? Surely there must be one somewhere.
