Alexandra Trusova switching from Tutberidze to Plushenko

She is a two time World Junior Champion though who failed to win any of the major competitions in her first season as a Senior. I am sure she wanted (and expected) better results.

Maybe they aren't as big as Euros, or even nationals and the GPF, but she did win Skate Canada and Rostelecom.

It all fell apart after she went up against Alena and Anna at the GPF and realized she wasn't near their level PCS wise so she thought the best was to try and out jump them. Unfortunately for her she put too much on her plate technically and mentally

Last year she lost JGPF to Alyona and RN to Anna. It's not like she dominated everything in juniors

Still she was a distant 3rd place at GPF, Russian Nationals and Europeans, while Sherbakova and Kostornaia (two girls she defeated to win her back to back World Junior titles) duked it out for the top spots. Trusova had every reason to feel disappointed that she was no longer a factor for the top spot.

Endless layout changes were Sasha's whim and Eteri was compelled to abandon everyone else and go along with it? When a skater with another coach gets that sort of unsuccessful jump reshuffling the first thing that is said is "the team does not know what to do with them". Somehow in Eteri's case all the successes are chalked up to her genius and all the failures are due to the students' recalcitrance.

I think the reason why in this situation I personally look more at Aleksandra in the second season half jump reshuffling instead of Eteri is because no other Eteri student had such extreme reshuffling (I don't think ever). All programs are tweeked here and there throughout a season for various reasons but Aleksandra's seem to change complete focus which feels very un-Eteri.

We all know Aleksandra has huge ambitions when it comes to her jumps and we all know what a typical Eteri program looks like. The first half of the season looked like Eteri was in total control and in the second it looked like they were appeasing Aleksandra's personal goals when she was failing to beat Alena or Anna. I don't see any other Eteri student throwing in the kitchen sink when they hit rough times, they stay the course (except maybe a few small changes) and fight through. Yes as the adults in the situation they should have put their foots down but I genuinely think they wanted her to win competitions and thought perhaps she could do it.

Radionova is also 2 times Junior Worlds champion, but her biggest success as a senior has been a World bronze.
Edit: And who knows? Maybe Trusova would not have even that. This year there were no Worlds and next season she may not even be a part of the Russian team, since she is no longer a part of Eteri's camp.
This may be a good thing. Now Zagitova can go to another Worlds and win a medal.
And for next season the team can be Kostornaya, Valieva and Zagitova (in case that Anna loses her jumps). So for Eteri is somehow easier now. Four or three people fighting for the Olympic team and not five.

So? Plenty junior skating stars has failed to transition that success into seniors. First sign of loss is not reason to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

This makes me think of everyone's predictions at beginning of season and the phrase "the ice us slippery."

Who would've thought back then that out of the 3A it's Trusova who has the worst season is the first to depart.

What are other coaches have to do with what I said? I don’t and didn’t compared coaches. You obviously dint get what I said. If the layout is bad choice from the coach is called bad judgement miscalculation call it whatever you want. It not called luck of attention.

Example one: skater comes and coach don’t care if he did warm up or not and doesn’t say anything. Luck of attention from the coach.

Example two: skaters comes and coach says you will do 10 minute warmup. Skater says no I will do 15 or 5. This is not called luck of attention. It’s a different thing.

I think I said very simple observations.
We don't really know that Sasha'a specific complaint was lack of attention, that's what people are putting into her mouth (or head). Maybe she wanted a clear strategy or at least a commitment to making her number one again (and how could she get it when Alyona and Anna are in the same group and are just as deserving?). It might not matter to Eteri or Russia which of the three As gets gold, but I suspect it matters to the girls. Sasha had been a trailblazer and was never going to be satisfied with number three with no clear vision of how to get back on top.

All that said, it's been suggested that her motivation may have been related to where she had a better chance to get that elusive 3A under the current circumstances. She can (and should) improve her PCS but she'll never be a components queen. She needs the 3A to win without an insane number of quads that she is unlikely to sustain.

Anyone think Plushenko has no other option than to fall back on his coaching. Life is going to change after covid 19, social distancing rules and regulations surrounding large gatherings concerts & events will have huge impacts on shows worldwide. I think he has to now look at the academy as his main source of income now & to succeed he needs the big name skaters.
Also sad for the skaters who didn't make it to elite level & were relying on the shows.
This is very much a calculated decision from Plushenko too & I think he will be very active in trusovas training.

This was all set in motion way before Covid-19 so I don’t think it was much of a factor in his poaching of Trusova and Sergei R.

As for do I think shows will return? Well if they can do fs competitions they can do shows and if they can’t do either then Plushenko and we all have a much bigger problem than who coaches who. Unlike football or Tennis Figure Skating couldn’t survive permanently in a world with no crowds. The TV rights alone aren’t valuable enough to keep the sport afloat.

No one. But actually of all very successful Eteri girls, Zagitova had the worst season.
As for the 3A - everyone expected Alexandra to be the most successful and Alyona - the least successful. But...

I wonder if Trusova would've stayed if Worlds happened and she won gold, or if she still would've peaced out.

We are taking about Russian ladies' skaters here though. Which skater in recent memory had a disappointing first senior season and then went on to do great things? Sasha may feel she is rapidly losing her chance considering the fleeting careers of female skaters in Russia. Indeed, judging by some interviews she's already been written off.

Sasha apparently posted on one of her social medias that it was for “personal reasons”.

Above everything, I hope she stays happy and healthy. It seems to have been about more than the competitions and medals and results. If she wasn’t happy with Eteri, why should she stay?
I think she was frustrated with being surpassed by Anna and aliona the season. I don't think Sasha was so unhappy with Eteri. It may be more of one of her coaches a young coach who she could work with for many years went to plushenko is Academy and this was her chance to go to. You know the young coach who the cougars here at this message board refer to as hot Sergei. ;)

And Sasha may have gotten promised more money at Plushenkos than she would have at Sambo-70. It probably wasn't just one thing it was probably a combination of things and with her coach of five years out of the country this was the time to make a dramatic move.

Of course Sasha would have stayed if she won worlds. She was getting ready with five freaking quads for the free skate! Changing coaches as one thing but changing coaches in Russia after winning a world gold medal or Olympic gold medal that would have been frowned upon.

Sasha didn't post anything on social media, her father denied that VK account had anything to do with her. There will be official comments from them after all the transfer formalities are over.

I think that was kamila with the leg kicking, which I personally found too much

Thank you, (ETA: and also @NanaPat's comment about Anna, which I just saw) and I apologize to Sasha. It's difficult when one's knowledge of the ladies is limited:). But from what I have seen of the choreo for Eteri's skaters, it seems frantic to me. Then again, my taste in programs and skating is obviously different for those who know my favorite skater and choreographer;)

Then again, I think Rohene would do wonderfully for any of these girls, as any good choreographer is capable of adapting their style to the strengths and weaknesses of their skater. I doubt that will happen, no matter the coach.

I'm not sure I agree with that as a general rule. Case in point: Yuna Kim left Orser at the peak of her career. There was nothing wrong with her skating. Gracie Gold left Alex Ourashev for Frank Carroll apparently because of a personality conflict. There was nothing wrong with her basic skating and Frank even credited Alex for Gracie's generally excellent jumping technique. A lot of factors can go into coaching changes. Sometimes it is because a skater wants to return to her home country or because the coach is training a competitor at the same time. I actually think that is the reason Yulia left Eteri. It was obvious that the new favorite in that group was Evgenia.

For Yuna Kim, wasnt part of the reason due to rumors that Orser was going to take on Mao Asada, Yuna's fiercest rival? Yuna's mother for sure was not happy abt it.

And that Yuna was getting less attention than before as she wasnt the one & only student of Orser anymore. Though Orser said he asked Yuna's mother 1st before he took on Adam Rippon.

Since Eteri has a spot vacant can she take in Sinitsyna. That girl needs a top rated coach. She is already getting good PCS with Eteri she'll definitely hit 35+ and 70+ easily.
