JGP # 4 in Tallinn (EST) | Golden Skate

JGP # 4 in Tallinn (EST)

Unfortunately, I only know of the American skaters. So if anyone sees a budding champ in the list, let us know.

Americans

Oi v. Razzanno - should be close

Cannonzarro should place ahead of Rosenthal

I'm not that familiar with the US Pairs

Nor the ice dance teams.

Joe

Vera/Yuri - not even going to try their last names!, from Russia will likely take the pairs event!! And I am hopeful for Pflumm/Pottenger US to medal!!

I read some review of the two Chinese pairs Huibo DONG / Yiming WU and Yue ZHANG / Lei WANG. Both have only started practicing pair skating since last year, but I heard Yue Zhang & Lei Wang are quite promising. They have mastered all big tricks such as th3Sal, Th3T. They will use 3T and 2A+2A+SEQ as sbs jumps. It's said their consistency is very good in practice. However it's hard to say how they will fare in this competition since they've never even competed before! Long program is 'Coppelia' . Keep an eye on this pair. A couple of pictures:

Huibo DONG / Yiming WU are not as good as Yue ZHANG / Lei WANG. Their sbs jumps are okay, but throws are inconsistent. Both girls are very young though. Bin Yao is coaching these two pairs with the help from an assistant coach.

Yikes, what hapened to Lenko/Islam? I know the compulsories aren't really their strength, but I didn't expect them to be that far down. There was no deductions, so they didn't fall. Did they just not have a very strong dance? Thankfully, they're only a few points out of the lead, and hopefully can make up some of that ground during the next two portions. After their silver in Lake Placid, i'm guessing that they'll need at least a bronze here or possibly a silver to qualify for the final, which I believe was their goal. I wish them the best, and hopefully they can move up. They had a very strong FD in Lake Placid.

This will not be a field day for the US.

Jinlin Guan - a force to be reckoned with?

A. Gatchinski - nicely done.

BlakeRosenthat - Surprise for me. I thought Juliana would do better.

Chock and Zuerlin in Dance - Who knew?

Joe

Fine start for Blake Rosenthal. If she can hold up she's on pace for a 150 point competition! That would have to be a personal best, I think.

They did the same CD in Lake Placid--the Viennese Waltz. Actually, they improved their score from 26.72 in LP to 27.48 in Tallinn. In LP, they finished behind Bosley/Corona in the CD but beat them in the OD and FD.

I think they just ran into a field of more proficient waltzers here.

1. Yuki Nishino (1,1) - Japan - 144.12
2. Blake Rosenthal (2,4) - USA - 127.67
3. Svetlana Issakova (6,2) - Estonia - 124.28

Congrats to Nishino! Nice to see a girl give the Americans some competition. How awesome for Svetlana Issakova to medal at her home event. Estonia has been doing very well lately on the Junior level, and I hope this can continue and they can do well in the senior level as well.
