It seems the guesses set off : https://sport.business-gazeta.ru/article/257278 - Kostornaya left Tutberidze because of sponsors. Plushenko promised to find contracts for her

How on earth would the journalist know that? If the negotiation was so secret?

I wonder why Ari Zakarian didn't become his manager. If he was she would have gotten sponsors easily. We just have to look at all the contracts and visibility Medvedeva has. Shcherbakova got Nike.

For me, Alena leaving is very surprising while Sasha's move was not surprising at all. The coaching team did not help Sasha maximize her potential last season, and most people expected her to have the success that Alena had. Because of that, it was understandable that Sasha wanted to get things back on track with a different environment. Alena had a very successful year and the team did a great job helping her put two programs together with enough content to challenge (and usually beat) the other women with quads. It's sad for me to read it was about sponsorships, because I think one world title would have put a big spotlight on her accomplishments and made her much more marketable. But I can see how it's frustrating for her to see the top women she trains with get those and not her, especially when Alena is beating them all most of the time.

I don’t know, I guess because Anna and Sasha were with Eteri for longer than Alena, They’d be more willing to stick with her. Zhenya at least stuck around with ET through the olympics even when the attention was split between her, Alina, and the 3A when they were juniors.

I find it funny that Eteri tagged Aliona in the post too. It wasn’t like she was saying goodbye, good luck, or thank you... basically the opposite. You would think she would detach herself from her former student on social media instead of tagging her in a post that dragged and exposed her.

I will say that Eteri does come across as the best coach, but if it’s not healthy mentally, I can understand the drive to switch coaches. Good luck to these girls with Plushy, I hope he can keep his promises to them.

A bigger piece of the sponsorship puzzle may not have to do with Eteri at all. As we all know, Aliona wants to become a neurosurgeon once she finishes skating. That’s amazing! However, medical schooling is very expensive, and takes a very long time to finish. It could take Aliona 10-12 years to become a neurosurgeon once she finishes skating. That is a lot of time and money. I do not know how affluent Aliona’s family is, but they may realize that it will be a struggle to pay for Aliona’s education without big sponsorships. So, when Plushenko promised the big sponsorships, Aliona and her family felt it would be the best decision to make for Aliona long term.

Man, Eteri has got to stop bashing teenage girls on social media after they are no longer coached by her, it’s so unprofessional:palmf: It also doesn’t sit right with me that she dragged Evgenia and Yulia’s name into this again:slink:

It's not okay to bash skaters, because they are leaving. And to continually bash skaters 2.. 3..4.... Years after they leave is unprofessional and immature.

Funny how the young women involved have largely remained silent while the adult continues to try and throw them under a bus repeatedly.
You cannot emphasize this enough! I'm really looking forward to reading how Edwin cleanwashes the highest instance in figure skating ethics this time.

I see everyone mentioning Aliona being a neurosurgeon, but I thought she said somewhere that she changed her mind and didn’t want to do that anymore? I can’t remember where I read that and can’t look for it atm, but I could’ve sworn it was in an interview maybe last fall? I may be confusing with her with someone else, does anyone else remember seeing this?

she did change her mind at one point although i don't remember if it was on being a neurosurgeon, but most recently that is her plan.

Didn't we all agree that it is best for any skater to have strong teammates in training? Voila, that's how it will be. Seen in this way, it doesn't have to be a disadvantage for Sasha.

Exactly! Didn't anyone on the Ether team say that Sasha will be the best of the worst?

She did an interview with the Olympic Channel and I believe she still wants to be a neurosurgeon but would like to take some time to do shows beforehand.

I did not see that interview you mentioned, but Olympic Channel interviewed her very recently (within the last 2-3 weeks) and she said she intends to become a neurosurgeon.

Plushy has always shown strength of character and emotional stability. I trust him

Eteri is the pure illustration of idgaf, so i think she will keep speaking as she always did. Especially if a student sneak out after fooling her for two months.
Being classy is a stranger thing for her.
