This is good news for serious fans of competitive skating. Hopefully one day IceNetwork will cover the whole of the GPs.

One query: How does NBC play into this with their 2 hour show on Sunday?

If they are using geoblocking, you can circumvent that by using an open proxy server in the United States. You can also use a Tor node in the U.S., but the bandwidth may not be enough for video. I went as far as the credit card info and Ice network will let you enter any valid card from any country, so if you are signed up, you can circumvent any geographic restrictions by using an open proxy server in the United States, and that IP address will appear instead of your real IP address and you will appear to be within the United States. Since the credit card processor they use has no country restrictions, just use a U.S. proxy to circumvent geoblocking, and then sign up for a subscription and watch.

You can find lists of open proxies all over the Internet. Just select a U.S. proxy, to desguise your IP address and you are good to go.

It's easier to say than do, I'm afraid. You might need a (high) anonymous proxy for the trick. This kind of proxies are hard to find, and the connection might turn out to be veeeeery slow. If you don't know a thing about proxies, don't throw away your money on this.

I think I will definitely give it a shot for US Nationals. But I don't know if I'll even have time to really take advantage of the live SA coverage...

I have subscribed and think it's well worth the money ... if it works. So far everything has worked except when I try to watch the International Counter Match I get an error telling me I am blacked out ... even though the event is on-demand and not live ... so a blackout wouldn't even apply. So far I've gotten no results from customer service. If I have a problem watching SA, I'll be livid.

Do they have a full list of the events they plan to cover, and what's the deal on areas of availability? Being in the US, can I still watch Skate Canada? (if they cover it...)

It doesn't seem like IceNetwork is covering LiVE GPs other than Skate America. However, they may get a stream of other GPs and post them as 'on demand'. ESPN is listed as showing other GPs on tape in their usual abridged form.

"On demand" full coverage of the other big competitions would be something, anyway. Not nearly as exciting as seeing it live, but still something. We are pretty starved for coverage on ESPN/ABC, especially for non-US events. Even for the US events, they usually focus on just the ladies' LP and just show short taped highlights from everything else. The ladies LP is my favorite, but I still wish I could see the other stuff (and Youtube just doesn't cut it for me...)

I've been watching some of the regionals videos, and during certain times of the day the videos start stalling and need to take seconds off to do buffering. I had that problem also. It seems that they use not only your IP address, but also your landline telephone to determine your location. My telephone is unlisted so they claimed they couldn't verify where I lived. I thought that was a pretty dumb response considering that they can look up my area code and see that I'm in the US.

So I was told that I couldn't get the Japan vs. US program or other videos that are blacked out because they are not able to verify that I reside in the US. Since I couldn't get the services I was requesting, I asked for a refund To add insult to injury they told me that the "grace" period had expired and I wasn't entitled to a refund..

At that point I asked to speak to the supervisor, and then it was all straightened out in less than 60 seconds. So don't give up - insist - persevere. They operative word here seems to be "Supervisor".

Even if your number was unlisted, they could still verify you. There are services on the Net that will give you anyone's unlisted phone number anywhere in the United States of America. One would think that Ice Network would be willing to spend the money to get your information from one of these services, if they really wanted to verify you. They could have put out anywhere from $25 to $70, depending on the service, and had your unlisted information in their hand in minutes.

In that case you'd be bombarded with ads...so pick your poison I suppose. Remember, the revenue must come from somewhere, so if not from subscriber fees, then from advertising dollars.
